I wish he put more effort into drawing… I understand having it more minimalist but just copy pasting them over and over for the majority of strips in a week…
Too many people don’t care about good news. Nor do they care about muggings, terrorists or illnesses. They just care about things that are sensational.
Silly pig. You look at the news specifically to find out what’s wrong (which is important). But THEN you look at the world around you to see what’s right. You’re just spending TOO MUCH time watching the news, and NOT ENOUGH time looking around you. Balance, my friend.
Pastis’s genius has never been in his art, which was, and will probably always be, minmalist. It’s in his ability to make humorous observations about news, current events, and society in general. And in delivering silly puns, which we love even though they’re silly.
Surveys have shown for some time that people believe they are in far more danger than they really are due to the negative news that is constantly being blared.
I stopped watching sensationalism…I read the news instead‼️
All I have to say is anyone who criticizes the creator of a cartoon strip is petty and if you think you can come up with a new artistic strip DAILY‼️ then bring it on!
I know that media’s prime goal nowadays is to make money, via sensationalist headlines, rather than inform. But this is kind of a libertine strip. “Well, my trip was good, who cares about bad things that happened to others.”
Kind of brings to mind this Chris Hitchens quote: “There for but the grace of god goes someone else.”
Breaking News! Today a man went to work, did a good day’s work, went home and enjoyed his family. So far there has been no report of ethical or legal misbehaviour. Our crews are interviewing people who know him or work with him. Back to you Bob.
I like this perspective, but his numbers are not nearly optimistic enough. It is surely billions of people who are happy and healthy. Yes, there are pockets of the world where terrible things are going on, but that is not true everywhere. If a war going on somewhere else in the world is going to make us miserable, then we will be miserable our whole lives, because there will probably always be a war somewhere in the world.

This is truly wise. Too often, news makes us think “Oh no, we’re all gonna die!” We should celebrate good things instead of fretting about bad.

Our local news is like that, more or less, on all channels. Arson, murder, auto accidents, burglary.

Yeah… except that the majority of Ukrainians remaining alive doesn’t minimize the significance of those dying in Putin’s war of conquest.
Or the majority of people surviving covid, or any other disease shouldn’t mitigate our efforts to combat them
Or that, as the old Brit saw goes, “I’m all right Jack” doesn’t entitle us to turn it blind eye to those who aren’t.

I’d suggest an almost infinite number of wars didn’t start.
Also, 2.1 million people being happy and healthy is fine it’s it’s the local news, but a bit depressing if it’s for the world.
