My rule was always to have both cars in the garage by Halloween and they get parked there every night until the first spring project that requires garage space. With my kids growing up and an ever-expanding fleet of vehicles in my driveway, I need the garage just for the parking spots. We now have to stage the vehicles every night based on who is leaving first the next morning. April has meant we can park on the street in front of the house again (Nov-March is “no street parking” so the plows can do their job) and that’s eased things somewhat.
RV campground one summer had a nasty storm with a ton of hail. We were among the lucky few whose windshields survived but we lost both trailer skylights. It could have been worse, no one lost an entire trailer to fallen trees. We had the skylights replaced and then added heavy weight protective domes over them. At home both vehicles have g@rage space.
I always feel so sorry for the animals when there is a really bad hailstorm. They often have no place to hide, and there have been cases where the poor things have been killed by the hail – literately pounded to death.
I traded my old 12 yr old car last year, one that I had driven for at least 9 years with hail damage. My vehicles are garaged but I got caught out in the storm.
This story line has been really prescient with the horrific weather across the midwest and the poor Minnesota eagles live on ‘eagle cam’ losing their nest and little one.Thoughts to all those effected, well I guess that is us all as climate change looms.
One car in a three car-garage. The former owners made changes to the high bay, so it’s taken me years to revert it to the original configuration. I hope to get the van in it, but it’s at shop #4 trying to track a stalling problem down.
I bought a new house with a double garage. Finally room for my car. Great in winter. I never have to warm it up or clean ice and snow off of it. I also have the driveway cleaned by a landscaping company. All I clean is the walkway. The next door neighbour’s kid thinks I am old and feable (NOT) so he offers to clean it for me…for $5.00. lol
We have a one-car storage unit beside our house. In Feb we had an ice storm & a branch fell; hit the windshield and shattered it, and broke up on impact, allowing it to dent the roof over the right front door & the left windshield pillar, as well as scratching all 4 doors.
Most of the homes on my street have 3 car garages, but half the neighbors leave their expensive cars in the driveway. I wonder how valuable the junk in their garage is.
Garages were meant for cars which are usually the second most valuable things people own. But surprisingly, only 33% of garages actually have cars in them. The rest are used to store what is typically worthless junk. There is no cure for stupidity.
My husband and I got caught in hail once on a trail run when we were more than an hour from shelter! There was supposed to be rain but the hail wasn’t in the forecast. It was certainly an adventure, I had a jacket and a hat with a brim which protected my face from the worst of it, and it was only about penny-sized, but it sure did sting!
A few years ago I was in South Dakota, Rapid City area, when it began to hail. Quite a few cars had body and windshield damage. Where I was raised we had little in the way of hail so this was eye opening!
Had a roommate in college-his car looked like a golf ball. Hit by softball sized hail at his home. Parents took the insurance money and he drove the car to school. By the time we graduated-the dents had rusted through and water would drip in the car and trunk.
I try to make sure all cars are in the garage before a storm. That is why we have a garage.
Had a hailstorm in Wichita, fellow in our group (New BMW) ran out and spread himself on it — the hail left an outline of his body on the car! True story.

Definitely not a good sign Arlo, better check the roof and the garden may have a problem as well.

Arlo’s world has gone to hail.

I love hail dents on cars, does great thing to the price when you’re buying one.

Now that his car has been junked, it’ll be OK to park it in the garage.

To think I might use that line on my wife some day.

An old quilt and a couple of ratchet straps will protect a vehicle from most hail damage.

In Milan Michigan , yesterday they had " reported " that the hail was the size of a lemon : (

Has anybody tried the dry ice method of treating hail dents? I’ve never had the opportunity (and I’m thankful for that!)

Hauler , log splitter, riding mower, all in garage. My car, outside. And I even have a Polebarn, but that’s at the top of my property.

I had a neighbor with a gorgeous Ford Mustang that was always parked in the driveway, exposed to the elements instead of safely inside the garage.
I wondered what could be in the garage that was more valuable than that car was.
