I was listening to my Walkman one day at the fitness club. I had been listening to disco hits. My headphones were cheapies and I know others could hear what I was listening to. Just as I strolled into the menās locker room Grace Jones was belting out her song āI Need a Manā. I thought to myself nobody better get any funny ideas! lol :-)
I have been told I should sing solo, so low no one could hear me, I was also told I should be on the stage, the first one out of town,I wish I was kidding!
I struck up a friendship with a coworker who was singing that very same song. I told him that probably was not the best impression he wanted to make in a warehouse full of burly men.
Whenever I have an earworm I want to get rid of, I replace it with one I like. My go-to music is āThe Blue Danubeā, and I visualize the scene of the space plane docking with the space station in ā2001 : A Space Odysseyā. For some reason, that music never annoys me.
My mother used to sing Broadway show tunes all the time. Itās one of the big reasons I know the lyrics to pretty much every major musical from the late 50s through the 70s. Thanks mom!
My wife loves to sing as well, and has a lovely voice. Itās great. The downside is she occasionally sings country songs with lyrics about trailer trash miserable marriages. It took a while for her to reassure me the lyrics had nothing to do with her actual state of mind on our marriage.
I made the mistake of watching āGreen Acresā because I saw it in the list of old shows for streaming and wondered, āIs this as stupid as I remember?ā
Now I canāt get, āGreen Acres is where I want to be. Farm living is the life for me. ā¦ā out of my head.
When Iām hearing an earworm too much (usually around Christmas), I change it up. Sometimes as simply as imagining it done in a Bob Dylan warble.
In the case of the G&S, āI am the model of a modern senior citizenāā¦then try to follow with something phonetically similar to ā Iāve information vegetable, animal, and mineral,I know the kings of England, and I quote the fights historicalā
Itās a world of laughterA world of tearsItās a world of hopesAnd a world of fearsThereās so much that we shareThat itās time weāre awareItās a small world after allItās a small world after allItās a small world after allItās a small world after allItās a small, small world ā¦ OK, Group-5 start the round now!
I was singing āIām a believerā by the Monkees when my wife asked me to stop because it was annoying her. At first I thought she was kiddingā¦ā¦but then I saw her face!
I remember family drives in the car when my dad sang old songs. My brother and I would sing along even if we didnāt know the words! Those car rides on Sundays were fun when we were little ( a good 70+/- years ago). Ah, memories!
This song was the soundtrack for a Womenās Tennis Assoc. commercial, including the line, āI pity anyone whoās not as pretty as meā. Running continuously throughout the US Open, the video focused on Maria Sharapova, emphasizing her beauty & fame. Although it closed with one of her powerful serves; it was sure to bring withering criticism from feminists and all female athletes. The only thing that could save her is winning the tournament; so she did.

My worst memory of an ear worm was Donny and Marie singing Iām a little bit Country, Iām a B little bit Rock and Roll.
It stuck with me one morning in elementary school and I was old enough to know that this was NOT COOL! I was embarrassed.

Earl should retaliate by serenading Opal with a few songs by Slim Whitman (i.e., Una Paloma Blanca) or Boxcar Willie (i.e., Wabash Cannonball).
