“Oh, we’ll just live in the house while were renovating!” Said by NO ONE after the first time. (Okay, almost no one. Some people seem to enjoy suffering.)
The thing about renovations is, even if you don’t have any as long as we’re at its you will almost inevitably run into at least one Oops! didn’t expect to find that! (probably several!)
Our kitchen renovation began April 8. We’re still in the midst of it. NOT the contractor’s fault. He’s been wonderful! But when he gets three different delivery dates for the cabinets, what can he do? They finally came in last Thursday so we’ve been moving forward with things. Lots of work still to do, moving water and gas lines. I took a big wall down, replaced the doorwall, installed a much bigger window…I’ve waited a long time for this and it’s going to be epic, and my husband and I are still friends, but it’s been tough. I’m cooking in the garage when I do cook, on a Blackstone grill and an induction hotplate and washing everything in the laundry tub which is heck on my bad back because of the angle I have to bend at. I might have a kitchen in another couple weeks…
I have home renovation PTSD from childhood. We lived in what was originally a two bedroom farm house built in 1932. My parents added an addition that gave my sister and I our own rooms, but they didn’t finish main floor/living room for several years. In the meantime they decided that it would be a good winter project for my dad (crop farmer) to strip all of the plaster and lathing from the then kitchen and living room (roughly 1/3 of the house) and replace it with sheet rock. We lived in the house during the whole thing, fifty years later and home renovations give me anxiety attacks – and my husband wonders why I’m so on edge just talking about the renovations we need to do in the next couple of years.
A home remodel is a very stressful time. For weeks, your life will be turned upside down, and dust will get everywhere, even with plastic put up to prevent it.
Elvis-Anum: I’ve been translating this scroll from the oPyramid. It looks like there’s a hidden treasure room somewhere.
Beatrixia: I wonder if it’s more gold and gems, or real treasure like scrolls.
Elvis: I have a feeling somecat is going to try to find out.
Bea: Or maybe somecats.
Elvis: I leave you to organize a search party. I’d go, but I have so many scrolls to translate as well as other duties.
Sometime Later
Queen Catshepsut the Golden: So according to Elvis’ latest translation, there could be a hidden treasure room in the oPyramid.
Bea: That is so, Your Majesty. I would like to ask Wally, Iggy, and Violet-Ifa to come along. And Ora Z is going with us to visit with the luthiers, Mandy and Lynn. I wanted to ask Lupnium, but he’s coaching the Tumbling Team.
Queen Cat: Very well. Have Thomios make up a lunch packet. I understand he’s making Perfect Perch for supper tonight.
Tommy is so sweet, he wouldn’t actually use that hammer to hit anything. It’s more likely he’d dance with it, the way Fred Astaire danced with a hat rack! :)
Our neighborhood is full of 75 year old houses in great condition. 25 year old houses with the newest building materials and procedures are collapsing.

Great way to let the folks who don’t get the Sunday funnies to know what’s happening while still taking the narrative forward.

A mighty test indeed .I’m also curious how this makes a house this big vibrate. I’m not doubting it does but the physics are something I can’t grasp

That looks like a VERY useless hammer, also the screwdriver was left on the oven.
