I don’t mind it in the mountains; it looks lovely. Not so lovely in a long driveway.

Reminds me of when I worked at a hotel where we got international students staying for extended periods. Still brings a smile to my face when students from Africa saw and experienced snow for the first time in their lives. Quite the same reaction as April here.

Back in the 70s, our neighbour’s son came back from the Philippines with his girlfriend one Christmas, the awe struck look and excitement at seeing snow for the first time was pure joy, we all went out and built snowmen with the couple. That, was a very merry Christmas and one of those memories that is still clear as if it were yesterday.

I remember watching my father put chains on the tires of our car when it snowed in Dallas. Must have been 1960 or 61.After we moved to Arizona, my family took a trip to the Flagstaff area and I experienced deep snow for the first time.

I went to a military HS, and we had kids from all over the world.

My first year, there was a kid from Honduras who’d never seen snow before. He came up to me and said ‘Is snow?!’ Yeah Luis, it’s snow. Have fun!

This might be prophetic. I live somewhat around 50 miles of where the Pattersons lived in the Greater Toronto Area. Albeit the weather report calls for some 5 to 10 cm of flurries today, I just looked out the window at 7 AM. The ground is still bone dry! Not a single snowflake in sight. We haven’t seen any snow since last February or March. Can’t say what it was like originally in 1995.

Just remembering when I witnessed a friend seeing her first snow. She, her husband, best friend & friend’s husband all moved up to NH from southern California. She & best friend worked with me. One morning, while we were setting up before opening, it started to snow. Friend ran outside & started dancing in the snowfall. Suddenly, she ran back inside & said, “D*MN! It’s COLD!!!”

Snow can be really neat — until one has to drive in it.

Ignore the Debbie Downer in our midst and enjoy the wonder of snow falling on a little girl. Sure seems like magic!

Light flurries for a few minutes are not an issue.

It’s never about the big things in one’s life that matters, for in the end, most big things were just overblown. It’s the little things that are shared that make lives and families complete.

This reminds me of a winter morning, probably 1956, when there was a magical snowfall that coated the trees and every bush. My dad got my little brother and I out of bed very early, we bundled up, and went and walked through the woods in the magical white world that was so silent! A very vivid memory. Snow was not all all unusual in Wisconsin, but that was an exceptional sight.

We must all deal with changes. April had her first Farley-less Thanksgiving and I had my last Thanksgiving meal in office.

Having children is a roller coaster, but one of the positives is that they Do bring magic into the world. Or maybe its just that they are open to it.

Beautiful cartoon, there is always magic, but you have to be able to see it.

It’s not magic when you have to shovel it, or when you have to walk through hip-high snow to get to the bus stop, or when it turns instantly to ice as it falls because a bomb cyclone is a thing…..Enjoy it while you can, kid.

To be able to see life through a childs eyes and enjoy the wonder of it all. That’s the fountain of youth.

I wish I could get rid of the 2-3 feet of magic that has fallen at my place already. Especially since the winter storm warning has predicted up to 4-5 feet of white magic by the time the lake effect show is done!

I used to really like this strip. But lately it’s mostly cutesy stuff revolving around the baby. It’s become like a Family Circus clone…and I hate Family Circus.

This is precious. John was a bit annoying in the very early strips. This shows a much mellower side.

Let the kid shovel it. And then scrape the ice off of the car. Then she’ll see how much fun it is. Or isn’t…..
