Gordon’s dialogue is amazing, or rather I should say “amazin’”. Every “ing” is converted to “in’”, except for “landing” in panel 2. Not only that but he throws in an “’er” and an “’e” and an “outta” and a “wanna” and even a “man.” Plus we have a decaying outhouse reference. What in the world kind of effect was Lynn Johnston going for here? Gordon is a country hick with no indoor plumbing?

“At least it’s a soft landing.” I’ll try to remember that.

I always say that there is an “up” side and a “down” side to everything. The trick is to find the “up” side of everything you have and everything that happens and the “down” side to everything you don’t have and everything that doesn’t happen.

This would be a good ending for the arc. So I hope this IS the ending…

Wow I never would have guessed in a million years what today’s story line would be.

Gordon is chewing the fat that he fell through the seat in the outhouse – and then he says it is good that he went to the E.R. room and the nurses found his story HARD to swallow? Now that is a hard day!

We have our up and downs but everyone knows Takeoffs, (ups), must equal landings. Soft or not, a good one is one you walk away from.

For a young guy, he has already become the old guy down at the service station. Eyup.

It still stinkls if you fall through the seat in the outhouse, soft landing or not. So is that what Gordo has at his gas station; no indoor plumbing?

Michael’s problem is that his life has not mirrored what he saw on TV. On TV you go to public school, take a girl to the prom, then marry her.

There still are people like Gordon and Tracey out there. Good people, kind hearts, and close friends! Though they may be rare, they should be cherished.

Mike is ( and always will be through the life of the comic strip ) lucky to have such wonderful friends in his life.

Why is Gordon speaking so folksily all of a sudden?

Good friends always lift you up when you’re down.

Gordon’s reference could, be about the chemical toilets at parks and other sporting events I guess – having used more than my share of “home-made” outhouses in my youth, I can catagoricaly state that NO homeowner would EVER put together such a contraption – after all, he and his family were the principal uses of such “facilities”…

Ah good old Gordon, his simple home spun philosophy is so spot on, unlike the plethora of half baked psudo psychology that is espoused in some of the comments.

Maybe that was a soft landing, but Gordon will be bathing in bleach for quite some time. Probably won’t get invited to many parties!

I truly try to find the bright side to just about any event that occurs, regardless of how dismal it initially seems. A lot of times I don’t share such sentiment with others because it seems they would rather have something to grouse about than trying to find something to smile about. However……If I fell through the toilet to the bottom of an outhouse, I don’t think I would find even one shred of amusement or silver lining with that, regardless of how soft the landing is! I think I could shower underneath Niagara Falls for an entire week and feel like I still couldn’t get clean!

If Gordon fell in the latrine headfirst he would look like Lawrence. If Tracey fell in headfirst she would look like me!
