Phil… Maybe be a little less handsy with Luann while you’re in uniform. She’s clearly concerned where your hands have been.

Back during the height of the COVID pandemic, a nurse took to YouTube (or Facebook, or Instagram, I don’t remember) and explained why it was actually better for people to simply keep washing and santizing their hands than it was to wear gloves, because gloves contribute to cross-contimination, and demonstrated by dabbing her gloved hands into different colored fingerpaints, then basically touching other things showing that she was spreading contamination.

Phil reads her body language quite well. He’s not the clueless doofus who doesn’t pay attention. I like that.

I think Luann is being extreme. Nurses, doctors and aids probably wash their hands more than anyone.

Phil sounds quite dedicated to his work and to his patient.

Very refreshing in this day and age.

On the other hand, he might want to ditch the “comforting touch” bit. ;-)

This is why I feel that “Heart of the City” has become the better strip than “Luann,” they don;t repeat the same joke day after day. Things move along a lot faster.

This shows how crazy life has gotten. A simple friendly touch could be an indicator of attraction, but now it is suspect for so many reasons.

Luann is a very kind and caring person, just indecisive, but nobody is perfect.

My late mother did dialysis. Many websites say the average life of a patient doing dialysis is 5-10 years, but in reality it’s less:

“The expected mean survival of a 55-year-old American is 26 years. The expected survival for a 55-year-old person with a kidney transplant is 15 years, but the expected survival of a 55-year-old person on dialysis is only 5 years.

The mean survival for all people in America who start dialysis is 3 years. The shorter life expectancy for people starting dialysis is because the mean age of people starting dialysis is somewhat over 65 years."

(my mom was 79 when she started it, passed at 82).

Being touched with a contaminated glove is no different from being touched with a contaminated bare hand.

This glove thing is backwards to me. You wear the gloves to protect yourself. So if your cleaning toilets the bead stuff is on the gloves not you. It stays on the outside. Unless he changes the gloves they can transfer the contaminants to Luann. Maybe I am overthinng this

I’ve seen it so many times in the hospitals where the nurses put gloves on and then touch the dirty washcloths, the curtains, the bedrails, etc. Gloves only protect the wearer. Yes, even saw a doctor do this. Two family members died from a hospital infection and I saw why.

Why do I sense a sad moment coming?

I’m really starting to like Phil. He’s kind and knows how to be reassuring and being funny. Let’s really hope he and Luann become friends and start see each other. He would show her a side of medical care that she might like. Maybe they could even become colleagues in the future. Luann’s concern for dear Mrs. Horner is really sweet.

i’d be more concerned where his gloves have been. After all you wear the gloves when you’re doing all the messy stuff

Luann, I’m sure that Phil, as a caring professional, wears gloves, AND, washes his hands, after doing those “nasty” jobs you leave to your mother, or, father. they actually use the gloves when handling the patients. i would be more concerned about the gloves than their hands.

Luann really needs to get over this germophobia or whatever if this is going to develop into a serious relationship. Although it’s good to keep the interaction purely verbal until you really get to know one another.

I see a spark here. I have a feeling he’ll be wearing a glove elsewhere soon….I hope!

When I saw the 3rd panel of Luann’s reaction … I think she LIKED the touch and wondered if him and her could become an item. Just my first reaction.

That dumb, as it was yesterday. I’d think he wear gloves to do all those things he mentioned yesterday. I’d trust his bare hands more than being touched by a glove of his.

I like him!!

This relationship is not going to advance if Luann continues to express revulsion at his touch.

I think this is a progression in the present story line as to where LuAnn is to go as a person, either as a profession or romantically, or maybe both?

Okay, we need to rule out a romance between these two. Lu must be a germaphobe. Too bad.

What is the message here? Inappropriate touching is OK if the person is wearing gloves?

To all the discussion about looking at others:I had a subordinate who kept asking me out. “Are you gay or something?”Nope, I just wanna keep my job and not get sued. A lot of men won’t make a movenowadays because we have too much to lose where the woman can ruin a man’sreputation and future employment. When I had entry level wages ($3.25/hr) back in the1970’s I would ask coworkers on dates; after I hit the middle-class college grad salary,it just wasn’t worth it to date a coworker.

This reminds me of food servers who prepare the sandwich or whatever wearing gloves and don’t remove them when taking money and using the register….and don’t get a fresh pair of gloves. Ugh! Wake up Luann. This is getting old.

Odds Phil is transgender?

Well, this isn’t awkward at all ! ;-)

Does she actually not realize hospital and hospice workers constantly sanitize their hands, and wear gloves when touching their patients? If she broke her arm and had to go to the hospital, would she be grossed out by caretakers? “Eww, I don’t know where those hands have been!” Not funny!

Any gunk or germs would be on the gloves. I’m not seeing how wearing them to touch her would be any relief.

Phil is very efficient, but once in a while he gets a little behind in his work.

This is gross! Today he’s in her room, doing his chores and wearing gloves because when he turns to console Luann he still has them on. No one could pull on a new pair of gloves that fast. Yuck!!!
