Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
I can get coffee and not spend $100 on the trip. But I get my beans from a local roaster. They even give a free small cup when you get a bag of beans. (Now don’t pay attention to the rest of my trip later today. I do need to get more coffee this afternoon.)
Anyone else out there make a list, and then organize it according to the layout of the supermarket? You know, for speed and to avoid compulsive purchases?
Unlike a lot of superannuated folk, I’m continuing to get stronger and stronger as I age. For instance, when I was 25 I couldn’t think of carrying $100 worth of groceries in from the car in one trip.
I make a grocery list in my iPhone notes app (organize as I add ScullyUFO). I always get everything on the list as I remove from the list when I get somethng, then can’t be done till the list is empty. My issue is I don’t always add everything to the list I need, i.e. frozen green peas Friday, I need for a dish today.
She knows he can’t pass the boy toy store. Solution to this? Lowes, Ace Hardware and Home Depot should have coffee by all the checkouts. That way he won’t forget it.
I do all the shopping that can be done from home. My son does the shopping that requires going to a store. I write out a list AND send him a text, but he still comes home with several listed items missing. He does, however, buy a lot of stuff not on the list, but that he wants.
When husband quit his job about 15- 20 years ago part of our agreement for him to do so was that I would go on with my day to day as it had been and we would continue to be together after would be the end of work time and weekends.
Gasoline went UP in price and he pointed out that it made no sense for me to drive to go shopping and then him to drive separately to basically same price. So we start going out for errands together.
Before Covid I went to a client in Manhattan every month – alone, and to my embroidery guild meeting – alone per our agreement when he quit his job. Since then we are together almost 365/24. I stopped going to the client in Manhattan and had her mail me (she does not use a computer) copies of her books for me to do her work (she likes it – it costs her less than my coming in). Once I felt okay to deal with Manhattan/subways with Covid – there were problems with violence on the subway – and she was glad to just mail me the info I need for her books as she saves money. So that monthly trip out alone and driving the car ended.
Embroidery group meets in small room so I was not ready to go back to same yet. Then I got a notice for jury duty. I have always been a confident and great driver – suddenly I was terrified of driving -something I had never been.* In decades past I had gone with husband when he was called for jury duty as he is terrified of same and just sat in the jury pool room with him – but who knew what would go on if he came along under the new circumstances. So I had to go out and drive around alone the day before I went for jury duty.
Now I am back to going to my embroidery group meeting so I am driving (most months) at least once a month, even if a relatively short distance.
*When we bought a small RV in another state – I was the one who drove it back as he was afraid to do so, so he drove our car instead and to me it was driving something new.

I may spend the 100 dollars but I will come back with the coffee.

Clever. Old concept, but clever. Fox Trot did this YEARS ago with a Costco run.

Getting increasingly difficult to spend less than $100 at the grocery store. Just sayin’

Why did she lead with “one of us” if she didn’t want him to offer?

That’s more of a female thing. Ask me how I know.

More like $250.

Going just for coffee is a waste of gas. Reduce the number of trips and make a list of other things you need. And don’t forget ice cream!
colddonkey about 1 month ago
I’ll get the coffee while my wife spends the other hundred dollars.

It almost always happens to be the most important item that is forgotten!

Pretty small cannister, there. For us, “getting low on coffee” means there’s still two 30-ounce cans in the cabinet.

I have to take a list.

Somebody had tacks for breakfast!

My wife has a sign on the fridge that says “I will not complain when my husband goes shopping.”

Alas, that is my husband too. Some of his shopping is… interesting.

Here’s an idea: Give up coffee.
Imagine the strips that JJ could write about the withdrawal pains and troubles

That is an awful small coffee tin. Would make me run more than weekly. If that’s the only stock in the house.
(I keep the 2kg pack of beans in the freezer to refill the DIY-bean-compartment with it’s pound capacity of our bean-to-cup coffee machine.)
mountainclimber about 1 month ago
I haven’t worn short sleeves inside the house in several months.

No coffee on the list, 15K of green in the basement waiting to be roasted as needed. Now other stuff, different story.
