It is kind of sad that so many magazines have folded over the years.

Who would have thought ones like Entertainment Weekly or Mad Magazine would shut down?

Most everything is online these daysā€¦ But to me itā€™s not the same. I enjoyed flipping through the pages of magazines.

    .

So why do I get the feeling that Luann is going to hang out with Mrs. Horner a lot more than she normally would? ;)

April 7, 1952, Life Magazine. I was two years old. Mrs. Horner would have been 21.

Iā€™ve got ten prescriptions and no subscriptions.

And of Mrs Horner wants that on a T-shirt there are places on the Internet that will do it for you at a nominal price.

OK, a better than average Sunday strip.

1952? That was the year my mom was born. That is old!

P.S. This weekā€™s title panel was fittingly Luann made up like an old-timey magazine cover model.

Esquire magazine still does print subscriptions. So does the New Yorker. Anyone know if Rolling Stone still does?

Many women are very sensitive about their ages, and remain age 30 for about 40 years. But once theyā€™re as far along as Mrs Horner, they quit pretending and start joking about it.

I have one mid-day med and itā€™s for blood pressure. Itā€™s a morning and evening med, too. Itā€™s a small pill. But, I take large one for BP in the morning, too. An evening pill is for both prostate and BP.

I only have one gripe about todayā€™s comic: Phil is a CNA, a Certified Nursing Assistant. Why is he shown handling medications? Only nurses do that. I should know, because Iā€™m a retired Licensed Vocational Nurse in California. There are some things that Iā€™m not allowed to do, as an LVN or LPN, that I must be a Registered Nurse (RN). Giving medications thru an IV is a big one.

I think Phil had the quickest Sunday page appearance of all the new characters. Thatā€™s probably another sign of how important heā€™ll be in the strip going forward. Itā€™s always nice to see Luann spending time with Mrs. Horner. She really loves her mentor.

One reason I stopped buying print magazines is that in later years many of them got dumbed down in order to draw web surfers with short attention spans. I once found a copy of People Magazine from the mid 1990ā€™s and it had lengthy in-depth articles and interviews as opposed to the brief snippets found in the current version. Time magazine got much thinner in later years as well.

When I was in college in the 80ā€™s, I subscribed to both Time and Newsweek. It was interesting to read the same story from a Republican and a Democratic point of view. You know, back in the days when the two parties could agree to disagree without resorting to childish name calling and violence.

I stopped reading most magazines about the time People magazine became popular. I never understood the fascination with celebrity. I kept a subscription to Discover magazine and to the Smithsonian for quite awhile, but let those go in a big paper-purge when I realized that I read an issue in one sitting and would never pick it up again.

A LIFE Magazine from 1952 with Norma Jean on the cover. That serves as a reminder that whose of us who can still pay ir forward need to step up our efforts to do so. There are many out there who have no idea who Norma Jean is (by her stage name or otherwise). Is that important? Let me put it this way: I recently talked with someone who said she was a 27 year old schoolteacher who teaches history. Yet she had NO idea who JFK was! Kind of wonder what her idea of history isā€¦ā€¦.
