I’m looking at the parallels between this class and one of Luann most successful classroom arcs “Introduction to Art” with Prof Zébo. The Prof., Jack and Nil were introduced here both became major secondary characters. Tara was later introduced in the art department classes. Several characters played into this arc with romantic interest and dating among Luann, Jack, Bernice and Nil. The Fuse served as a meeting place for the students where character development occurred.
Here we see Prof. Mrs. Horner being reintroduced after a long layoff relegated to a tertiary character. She already exhibits som characteristics of Zébo. Will this arc follow the Art Intro arc with new and interesting male characters? Will we see mixed dating with Luann, Tara and new males? Will Luann shine as she did in the Art Class series? Can GnK stretch this arc into a winner? Will there be tension between any new males and our old favorites?
I"m so glad she’s back. I forgot how fun she was.. and that she existed. Seriously i’m still floored greg can remember a character from a while back these days.
I used to work reservations at Windjammer Barefoot Cruises. I had a travel agent call and said he had a client who has visited 85 countries and her bucket list was to reach a hundred. I was able to book her a twenty-six-day cruise and she was able to meet her goal. I was sent down island for business and had a chance to meet her.
Look like that the unstoppable Mrs Horner has already conquered Tara too. Luann is happy to have her as a teacher, let’s hope her class is valid and that the two can become friends with other students.
Shouldn’t that comment from Mrs. Horner been “Let’s light this candle”?
Alan Shepard’s comment to launch control after sitting on the launch pad for hours due to delays from minor problems and multiple cups of coffee moving through his system.
mrs. horner will be dead by summer…sad since Luann needs a mentor/guide and frankly, this lady is exactly who/what she needs…she just didn’t know it before
While I like Mrs. Horner as a character, it is taking quite a bit of “suspension of belief” for me to imagine her being the (adjunct) professor of this creative writing class.
With no prior indication of her past work history from what we have seen of her in the past, it seems unlikely she has a Master’s Degree or above in English (usually the minimum criteria to be a college English instructor). To me, it seems more legitimate for her to be a special guest lecturer being brought in by the professor of the class to specifically for her to talk about/describe memoir writing.
With that said, however, I also find it a bit incongruent in this story arc that the last two weeks were about “romance fiction” and this writing assignment is about “memoir” (typically NON-fiction). Are we to imagine that Mrs. Horner’s “memoirs” are what actually has been fictionalized and stylized into the Coverly series of romance novels? Are we to imagine that Mrs. Horner is Coverly and that even though fictionalized, these romance stories stem from a multitude of romantic interludes she has experienced over the years?
Overall…. the turn of this arc this week has left me rather confused overall.
Wow, what’s up with Luann’s eyes in the first panel? She looks a bit jaundiced! On another note, I am glad Mrs. Horner is back!! Fun times with her and Gunther.
Another odd thing today…. Luann’s eye shape is rather “squarish” like an old cathode ray tube television….. normally they are simply round. I cannot quite figure out the look/emotion Greg is going for with this different eye shape.
Ah, the Queen of Aberdeen 1946! The gang moved her about April 24, 2006. Dirk showed up. Sept 3, 2003 on is good background. She helped judge the student beauty contest.
My retired art teacher is 97, sharp as a tack and only uses a cane. A number of actors, and, gasp, politicians are active in their 90’s. Good to see an active senior portrayed as being “hip”. ;-)
“I see you knocked a hole through this wall. I was going to do the same thing, but the ‘gentleman’ declined to let me use his head as the hammer. He left in a hurry. Never came back. I had to toss his underwear in the trash.”
This story line has certainly taken a sharp 90-degree – or 180-degree – turn. Return to school, shadow people, a lively character from the distant (for us) past. And then there’s those squarish eyes.

If the character Luann is inspired by Greg Evans’ own daughter, maybe Mrs. Horner is inspired by his mother and he will be kind and respectful to her.

See Luann’s yellow eye in the first panel?
From our point of view, it’s proof that you should be careful using the paint bucket tool when you’re editing images.
From Luann’s point of view, it’s proof that you should eat your vegetables.
