There’s hundreds, maybe thousands, of different religions in the world, and there’s ridiculous many sects within those religions, and almost every one of them thinks it’s the only one that’s totally right. Just ask them…
If all religions are right, as the think they are, and they say that if you don’t follow their religion you will go to hell, does that mean that there is no heaven?
It’s called Good Friday because, by Jesus’ death, he became the final, complete sacrifice for our sins. We couldn’t have erased our sins. Our hands would have been forever stained with every single sin for a lifetime. But Jesus broke the bonds of death and sin! The greater LOVE of God prevailed. Since there are only two choices for eternity, why not chose the one spent in a loving God’s presence, rather than the torment of the hell originally planned only for the devil and his demons?
Is that one a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives republicans, you know the ones who went fascist on the democrats and but only expelled the two who were black!
To my simple mind, religions are constructs of people. Of people, by people, for people and to serve people’s needs. In order for one person, a leader, to be able to lead they must have some authority to give their rules weight over any others. There are really only two ways to do this, carrots and sticks, god and guns, temptation or force. The hard part about God, or gods, is separating them from what religions want us the believe about them. If you could forget all that religion has taught you, what would god be?
I am not here to save the world. If you happen to be a Christian, then you believe that’s already been done and by someone with better credentials than I have.
I do not have faith (literally) in a God that needs the backing of a major political party to get his will done. Jesus wasn’t popular with those who held political power.
The Christ said, “Love one another as I have loved you.” He did not say, “beat them into submission.”
And one day, people will understand that there is no such thing as “soul” and all this silliness of “where will you go when you die” will fall by the wayside.
This is a holy week for several religions—some which have adopted/adapted pagan rituals as part of their celebrations. And it’s a traditional time for many just to celebrate Spring: new birth, rebirth, renewal, starting over, warmth, sunshine, spring cleaning.
believe what you want but don’t hate on others for what they believe. hate is what’s wrong with the world (and climate change). just because it’s not YOUR way don’t make it right or wrong or bad or good.
Last week our pastor said the concept of Hell as a place of fire and eternal torment started with Dante’s Inferno, and before that it was just a separation from God.
Jesus made claims to be God.His resurrection validated those claims.Heaven and hell do exist. He taught about them. The most loving thing that I can do for anyone is to tell them the truth about Jesus.
“Over 90,000 Indigenous peoples were forced to stay at the Spanish missions in California between 1770-1834, being kept in well-guarded mission compounds. This has been described as defacto slavery, 1 as they were forced to work on the mission’s grounds amid abuse, malnourishment, overworking, 2 and a high death rate.” There are cemetaries on some of the mission grounds where Native Americans were buried.
Mark Twain once made a remark to the effect that if you put three well-fed animals in a cage with each other, they would tend to get along. If you put three people of different religious beliefs in the same cage, they would soon start an argument they would escalate into the next world. :) :(
“Because you see, anything good you dont have to force on people–they will steal it.” Dick Gregory. In this quote Mr. Gregory was referring to democracy, it applies nicely to all religions.
Guess I’m safe from winding up in Hell. I don’t force my beliefs on anyone. You have yours, I have mine and if they’re similar, that’s nice. If they’re not, don’t tread on me. Thank you. What religion you are, what gender you think you are, who you’re attracted to is none of my business (Except for child molesters, touch not the kids, and you’ll live. Mess with a kid, and I’ll go all ‘Cask of Amontillado’ on you. That might land me in Hell, but it would be worth it.)

Will any religious people admit that they are wrong when they end up in hell? The story of Job might make them think that they can wait for a savior.

If only there were a special hell for those who follow their religions that tells them to “spread the word” and convert the non-believers.
