Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
I love the details in the second panel! But Georgia needs to mention St. Gertrude of Nivelles! I like how the leprechauns, like cats themselves, don’t like vacuums. (From the “Dear Kitten” online commercial: “You must beware of the vah-cum! I have seen it devour whole cat toys!”)
I never thought of a vacuum cleaner as being the bagpipe of appliances. Maybe each brand/clan should have bags in tartan patterns? clan MacDyson, clan MacMiele, clan Kenmore, clan MacBissell …
in 1991 a team of scientists worked to reconstruct the carnyx, and in 1993 trombonist John Kenny became the first person to play the carnyx in 2000 years.
I wonder who’s side the cats will be on. They are not a big fan of the vacuum, but they did make peace with it and Seamus didn’t make a very good first impression back in 2021.
Oh, this is just awesome! Is that Seamus in front and on the banner? I’d never heard of a carnyx before…what an eerie sound. This strip teaches me so much, as does the Orb!
If you aren’t on Georgia’s Patreon account, I would highly recommend it. She shared a video a couple of weeks ago of her drawing the second panel, and watching her precision as she creates her art is always mind-boggling. And she is very egalitarian…all levels have access to the same content (I love that she did it that way.) She never posts spoilers, but what she posts REALLY fuels my eagerness to see the final version of the strip. (I’ve been dying to know what the heck those dragon things were for weeks!)
And for Saint Patrick, I went and got a corned beef brisket and it is braising now. I can only hope it turns out as well as the ones I corn myself – I wasn’t feeling up to the effort this year.
I just listed to the sound of the carnyx on YouTube. I can’t believe I’ve been hearing this sound in the fall in the back acreage of my house in the western mountain of Maine.
a prayer to Saint Gertrud herself with this prayer written by Ann Fitch:
“O holy St. Gertrude of Nivelles, Patron Saint of Cats, I ask you to pray that my sweet kitty(ies) will always be content, energetic, curious, playful, and good-natured.
I pray my cat(s) will be a joy to me and those I love.
Carry my cat(s) to the throne of the Father and ask Him to bless my cat(s) with long life and great happiness.
Pray dear saint that my cat(s) stay free from illness and that my cat(s) always feel safe, protected, and loved.
Thank you for asking blessings upon my cat(s).
Ask the Lord to pour out special graces upon all cats and cat owners.
May they bring great love to one another and live companionably in peace.
Well, vacuum cleaners can seem a bit like snakes…… Maybe the Leprechauns are doing their best St. Patrick routine and chasing all the snakes out of Dunnland?
I think my Gracie is part leprechaun! She is such a little trickster! I’m pretty sure her pot of gold is crunchy treats! That’s what I get for naming her after an Irish Pirate Queen.
Of course, they decided to do battle during Elvis’ nap time. A third party may soon enter the fray with a view to ending . . . the (noisy) hostilities.
(To be fair, most of the day is Elvis’ nap time, but still . . .)
Carnyxes are right up there with the pipes. Love them both now!! I’m wondering about playing them, though: that’s a fair amount of weight to be vertically carried. Possibly there was some sort of prop that helped the player hold the aloft?
My St. Paddy’s day feast is about to begin. I’m having baked cod, frying is too messy… With some potatoes that I smothered in a bacon grease. They make a shelf stable bacon grease called BaconUp. Then i sprinkle it with some Mrs. Dash. Pop it in the oven at 400F for 20 minutes, then stir it and back in for 20 more. Then 1 last stir and back in for up to 15 minutes. Normally I top that with bacon and cheese for the last 5 minutes or so, but tonight I’m going with the straight up potatoes. I’ll have me a Guinness Foreign Extra stout later. it’s the one they originally formulated to travel to the caribbean and so. It has a bit more alcohol in it to survive the long voyage back in the day. But I think it’s the perfect taste as it is. Even with the extra alcohol it’s only 7.5%
I was trying to finish a novel for a book club meeting at the library this afternoon so I did not try to read the comics until 4:30pm Pacific time. Looks like I chose the right day to be so late.

Is that a vacuum or a giraffe with an unusually-shaped shoe on its hoof?

Hooray! It’s here! And it’s amazing!
…I have heard a carnyx being blown, it was SPOOKY. If that started up in the middle of the night, I’d probably nope right out of there too.

They’re Irish — they should be playing uilleann pipes.
Granny Roberta about 20 hours ago
Shouldn’t that be “carnyces”? I mean, it’s “kleeneces” isn’t it! :)

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
At the oPyramid Library
Beatrixia: Looks like we have the cook scrolls organized for now.
Obadiah Opossum: I’m going to try some of Peg Bracat’s recipes from the I Really Don’t Like to Cook scroll.
Enter Two Leprechauns
Female Leprechaun: But first you have to try our Eirenan Soda Bread!
Bea: Trish and Duffy O’Doyle! Top of the mornin’ to ye!
Sue Chef: By an amazing coincidence, the Royal Kitchen Staff has just made several loaves fresh and piping hot.
Agnes-Ata: And we brought lots of butter and jam and jelly From Where We’ll Never Tell!
Duffy: I’m just sorry we couldn’t bring our pipe and drum brigade with us.
Beaver Lee Cleary: Not a problem. I’m sure Lupinium’s Getting Better Kittens and Ora Z’s Mallets Towards None groups will provide plenty of mayhem.
Bea: Let’s all adjourn to the snack room to partake of this feast!

Come to think, the way the bottom of the vacuum is drawn, that white rectangle inside is curved enough to make you think that it is scowling!
