I’m not sure what the most adorable thing is here. I’m leaning toward the snakes with their cat ears.

Is that Baba Mouse in panel 6 along with the 4 robber mice celebrating? And the green beer is a nice touch, but Beatrix is under age…for shame! But it IS a holiday, I suppose, so it’s OK.

Hey everyone, I have some late-breaking good news for St. Catty’s Day: one more stray cat is off the streets!

I recently noticed a new stray cat around my apartment: young (unfixed) male, about 1.5-2 years old, cream-gold with darker gold tabby stripes – an absolutely gorgeous little boy. I’ve been thinking of him as “Pixel” after Robert Heinlein’s Cat Who Walks Through Walls. He didn’t seem scared of me, but wasn’t interested, either, so I left him alone, but saw him a couple more times over the week. Yesterday, he let me pet him and take pictures, and even followed me part of the way to the dumpster as I threw out some cat food cans. When I went outside at about 11 PM, he was hanging out at my door waiting for me.

“Pixel” is currently camped out in my bathroom with food and water, a litter box he put his paws in, and a towel in the shower, which he curled up on immediately. I sat and scratched his ears for a while; he purred, started making biscuits, and rolled over to have his belly scratched; and seemed not only calm but almost relieved. Last I checked, he was asleep. My boys have been peering under the bathroom door but are not panicking or aggressive.

My lease says I can only have two cats, so tomorrow morning “Pixel” goes to the local no-kill shelter. Either this is someone’s pet, or he will be within the week. He’s a beautiful sweetie. Please wish “Pixel” a very happy St. Catty’s Day and a forever home!

Tommy is a bit shocked by the cat body parts the robber mice are using. And the snakes are having a celebration that they are not in Ireland! Baby snake is sharing with Beatrix!

Those snake ears do look rather catty, though. Are they costume ears?

‘Oh Pucky-Boy, the bacon, the bacon is calling…’. Darn, now that tune is stuck in my head. Probably be humming it all day.

My bad..not Beatrix, but the barn cat who does all the wiring connections for BCN. The size gives it away and Beatrix is in panels 2 and 8 properly sized.

Hey, and now we know how snakes wear suits (and other clothes) – they’re tied on at the back of the neck! I see teeny string knots in panels 3 and 4.

Happy St. Pats and St. Cats to all! Going to my folks for some dead socks, yum!

The song they have adapted is based on “Danny Boy”. The tune is also known as “Londonderry Air”. The English words were written by an English lawyer, and are not Irish at all.

The story behind the tune: There was a poor harper who lived in the South. One day,his house burned down, and killed his wife and child. Heartbroken, he decided to go to the North. One night, on the way, he was sleeping in a field, when the Little People came and sang the song to him. (In Irish, one presumes.) When he awoke, he remembered the tune, and worked out how to play it. When he arrived in the North, playing that tune brought him success, and he was able to rebuild his life as a harper.

That’s the story I was told. I don’t know if it’s true, but it should be.

Happy St Catty’s Day everyone. When I was a kid in grade school, we had one teacher who would smear green chalk on the nose of anyone not wearing green on March 17. So happy to see the BCN world decked out in rainbows!

And a tear of joy on Elvis’s cheek in the last panel as they sing “O Pucky Boy!” A Happy St. Catty’s Day to all!

The mice with their cat costume (in sections) reminds me very strongly of those Chinese dragon costumes worn by groups in the parades for Chinese New Year! BCN folks sure know how to party! 8D

What a fun strip today, with so many cats who have not been introduced yet in the Sunday strips making an appearance, along with the snakes and the robber mice. I think my favourite panel in the strip is Beatrix in her bib with the baby snake.

Can you believe I spent the day out and about with my daughter yesterday and forgot to pick up the fixings for Irish coffee??? I realized it this morning,

Sweetheart is fine this morning. She was over the whole thing by end of day.

She was acting like the puppy she isn’t any more at treat time last night.

And, my parakeets have (finally!) transferred over into their new digs. It happened late, so they will probably be doing their exploration of there new home this morning. I get to see if i forgot anything.

I also get to set up Jack’s (cockateel) new home. I hope that it takes less than three days to get him settled in. :)

The only down side to this is that seeing my old parakeet next to the two new ones i can see that she is showing signs of her age. Her partner dies about six months ago.

Love today’s art! Nobody has mentioned that they are all singing to Pucky. Puck’s mouth is open in glee or surprise (the !) but not voicing the song (no pointer from the speech bubble). Cute!
