Ah. It’s seems that Luann didn’t expect that being a “Teacher’s Assistant” to Professor “Zero” involved some degree of DIRTY WORK. Tsk-Tsk!

End reality comes crashing down on Luann. Now that we got that out of the way, are we going to have a full week of this?

Aggravatingly Redundant Task work. I see Luann was trying to dress like her professor, to effect of, i guess gaining some favor. Maybe easy work and an easy grade.

Yup. THAT. That’s why Tara ridiculed at the idea of becoming a TA. TA is just another word for a gofer. Luann, hang in there. It will look good on your resume, especially if you decide to major in Art. Just do it with a smile and keep dark thoughts to yourself. Ignore Tara or even better, don’t tell her. If you do, you’ll never hear the end of it.

I was TA to my drama teacher first period. I made her pot of coffee and organized her secret room backstage. I couldn’t act but I learned to speak up because of her.

I was expecting Mr. Zébo to correct Luann after she called him Mr. Zebo, but he didn’t. Maybe unlike the past, either Mr. Zébo no longer cares about being called Mr. Zebo or the accent is still being spoken but is no longer in the text. (https://www.gocomics.com/luann/2015/12/17 )

Well, she’s not a graduate student, so she’s not going to have her own class.

I hope Luann can muster the courage to walk if Zebo then says, "OK – Discard the paper strips and put the sorted sequins back in the bag and shake the bag.

Why do I get the impression that Zebo doesn’t want a teaching assistant as much as he wants a student that will do his “grunt work” for him??? ;/

“Cut the paper into eighth-inch strips” with SCISSORS? EVERY school / classroom that I’ve been to ALWAYS had a paper cutter available for JUST that reason! No scissors when you need to cut strips

Mr. Zebo must fancy himself the third of Matt Groening’s nine types of college teachers – The Mighty Famous Bigshot. (Drawbacks: Disdainful Teaching Assistant does the teaching… beware of bait-and-switch.)

I think I’d like to hit Zebo in that supercilious face with a pie.

Please note panel #2. Zebo looks just like the character in Edvard Munch’s painting, “The Scream”. Maybe someone just like Luann was the motivation for that.

At least until she is asked to model for the class.

For Someone who doesn’t know what she wants, She sure does get a lot of it.

Has “Mr.” Zébo ever been called Prof.? Apparently not or surely he would correct his TA minion.

Judging from the materials this looks more like a crafting class than an art class. He should have had her gessoing canvases or cutting mats and frames.

It’ll still look good on her resume, even if it’s not what she expected.

And so it beginning Luann’s new carries. It will not be an easy job. But I’m sure she will be successful. Also, if you are afraid of working hard, you don’t have to work in the artistic field.

I love it. Luann didn’t realize it but she signed up to be Zebo’s dog robber. In that role you’re going to have the “pleasure” of preparing the material to be used by the class and if I’m good at estimating Zebo cleaning up things afterward.

Art departments have giant paper cutters. No need to use scissors. Plus, the brushes belong to the students, not the art department. Not quite sure what’s up with the ‘sequins’.

If you’re going to be a T.A., it’s best to be in Mathematics. The answers are either right, or they are wrong.

I’ll see most of y’all in other strips. I am now officially burnt out on Luann – nothing special about today’s strip, just… well, nothing special about today’s strip, or any of them for longer than I can remember. [Mouses over to the Unfollow button]

All TAs have to do a certain amount of this kind of work. But if you stick with it you may get to actually help in the classroom or even take over a few classes yourself. This is valuable experience for someone like Luann who wants to be a teacher. Even if she decides to teach art instead of small children or a combination of both it will help her get comfortable being the leader in any classroom situation. I hope she sticks with it.

Ahh Luann, you thought being a TA involved teaching? Ha! Think more like Professor’s Slave. It’s a hard, hard world. Welcome to it.

Ahhh, the cute little Zebo-esque scarf….

I don’t think it’s actually possible to cut a standard sized sheet of paper into eighth inch strips with just a pair or scissors, heck even my paper shredder would make them into quarter inch strips. There is no way a person can make those cuts straight enough, especially not over and over. Plus sorting sequins by size is the most pointless exercise I can think of, and if those brushes have been sitting there uncleaned for a day then they’re ruined and you need to get new ones. I’m not sure if he actually wants her to do theses tasks or is just testing her to see if she knows how art works.

Sorry Luann you can dress to the nines but a TA job is not what it’s crack up to be you are basically a paper pusher.

Also why are Evans and Evans using such well-worn visual tropes as the ascot and tiny mustache to clue us all in that Prof. Zebo is supposed to be gay?

this is what student TAs do; art class is like science lab. someone is needed to set up the materials, then afterwards clean up and put everything away. BTW, Luann should start by inspiring herself. What upper level art classes is she taking? What paintings and drawings is she currently working on?

Agonizing reappraisal?

Are there really Art teachers like this at any Junior Colleges? I can see it at perhaps a 4-year school or a specialized “Art Institute”. Either Zebo is really down on his luck teaching, or maybe he is just a seriously over the top poser! I know, he’s a caricature, but still…

Does everyone forget Zebo? This is not about paper cutters, it’s about him establishing order … specificity his pecking order.

Next Luann will get a visit from the fool who demanded everything be stapled exactly as he wanted.

It’s kind of a good idea, Prof, to get your students to clean brushes themselves after they use them. The brushes tend to last longer if cleaned sooner…

If I need a plumber, I don’t want a college humanities major. But then trade schools might not offer as much fun as the college scene. I mean how many emergency runs can you make to a porta potty?

I think Lu had a whole different idea about what a TA does. But now that she’s in it, she might find she actually LIKES grunt work. Some people do. Plus, (s)he who is faithful in small things… Rather than being a snooze, I’m interested in seeing where this goes.

Late comment again, ah when the semester starts! Luann looks so cute with that outfit, coeds are routinely cute. Of course that is my old eyes to all these “daughters” I see at my college. Her romantic notions about being a TA met reality, but any learning, intern-ish kind of position involves a lot of grunt work. There will be a lot of inspiring stuff, particularly for someone who really loves art, as does Luann.
