Beatrix’s expression reminds me of that line in Disney’s (highly underrated) Atlantis: “You don’t wanna know. Audrey, don’t tell him. You shouldn’t have told me, but you did, and now I’m telling you, you don’t wanna know!”
Shadow worm in eye update. After letting some time pass with the treatment our vet prescribed, the worm that was in his eye is now a nearly an invisible spectre of what it was. It is dissolving into nothingness.
Beatrix, don’t bother reading people news. It’s always bad. I’ve been watching it for ninety percent of my life (I’m 75) and I can tell you that we’re doomed, and always have been.
For some reason Beatrix and Baba Mouse remind me of the time Lady Aberlin and Daniel Tiger from the Mister Rogers show talked about what happened to Bobby Kennedy.
I was only 3 at that time it first aired and do not even know if the Tampa PBS had Mr Rogers then (remember watching the show a few years later in the early ’70s) but I remember seeing that eye watering scene on a Mr Rogers biography that went through some of the amazing things that gentleman did on his show over the years….
Beatrixia: My present-day descendant is too upset to continue my story right now. Here is a song for her and all my friends: Helen Reddy’s Candle on the Water.
We need the candle on the water
A light of love to always burn
The world seems lost and drifting
But the clouds are lifting
Don’t give up ’tho we all have much to learn
…….
We need the candle on the water
To guide us through the cold, dark night
We’ll stay there right beside you
Let this candle guide you
The morning brings a golden stream of light!
…….
A cold and frightening time has found you
Don’t let the stormy darkness pull you down
There is still joy enough around you
Circling in the air
Full of hope and prayer
…….
We need the candle on the water
This flame of light will grow
Together we can make it
Joining hands, please take it
All of us reaching out to show
As sure as rivers flow
We’ll never let you go
We’ll never let you go
We’ll never let you go…
Puckmosis: We’ll be back with the rest of the story real soon.
Yes, it is up to us “Old Ones”, who have been thru all the pain & heartaches of the 1900’s, from TWO world wars, (and all the rest of the awful broohahas, mine was Viet Nam & then Desert Storm), Spanish flu, polio, no vaccines, no antibiotics, JFK, MLK, riots, etc, to teach the “Young Ones”, that tomorrow can be better, to have hurt from the pain of losing someone you love, is to know you have a tender heart. That we CAN go on, the pain does get easier to handle. And, most of all, never forget that all those events changed in time. We got vaccines & antibiotics & improved medical sciences incredibly fast. People who had cancer, are now living thru it all & can die of old age, not cancer, to name just one. The list of achievements goes on & on. We will get thru this too. Scarred, battered, heart-sore & heart-sick, but, we will survive.
I also don’t understand why a vet would be giving out people shots. It’s pretty easy to get one now if you want one from people doctors, at least in the US.
The cats are not often exposed to people news. I’m sure Beatrix and Baba are quite shocked by the results of Bea’s research, after a year of the plague. Can you imagine the feelings of someone who has been living off the grid, voluntarily or not, or someone awakening from a long-term coma, suddenly being hit with the knowledge of what has happened to our world in the last 14 months? And that’s just what governments have allowed us to know, we’ll probably never hear the full story of how much went on before we were made aware.
Oh no the BCN crew and friends are soon going to find out the terrible news. I want them to remain in their own world. I know they will be super supportive when they find out, but I still want them to live in a world without all that death and anxiety.
On that note, I need to know if Trevor got his woman’s biscuit for being good.
I’m rather more thinking that the sad news might have something to do with one of the characters in BCN rather than people news unless as some people have suggested that it’s about pets being abandoned or left alone because their people have died of COVIDS. First thought was – Burt maybe? Or Homestyle?

Wondering why Baba Mouse has her arm around Beatrix. Does Beatrix look sad/concerned to anyone else?

I wonder if this is about all the People that have died and the shelters are getting flooded with their animal companions.

Note the last time the cats have been aware of People News was when the Supreme Court made gay marriage legal nationwide:

Beatrix looks stunned with sadness, and Baba Mouse is there because she knows Beatrix is too young to handle what she learned from the world report.

I saw her today on live reception
A news report in her paw
Had she seen the pandemic section?
At her side giving comfort is Baba
No, we can’t always get what we want
We can’t always get what we want
We can’t always change how we feel
But if we cry sometimes we may find
It can help us heal
