That’s It! Bernice has crossed the line and NEEDS TO GO!

OMG! What’s going on!?!?

So this week ends with Luann humiliated by Bernice, who has transgressed with Nancy’s bookkeeping system. Nancy’s depression about her age remains unaddressed. Nothing has changed. Hilarity has been strangled as it has so often.

Bernice knows nothing about how they run The Fuse. How can she know what is a “Priority” ?

You got the right idea, ladies but the wrong locale.

Relocate that hustle to the Fuse and put a smile on Nancy’s face. ;-)

I hope Luan’s mom likes what the ladies did, I think she will like it a lot!

Bernice’s insecurity leads her to people-pleasing behavior, such as seeking Nancy’s approval through this rather obvious and ostentatious “good girl” maneuver – which not so coincidentally makes Luann look “less than” by comparison.

I wonder if that insecurity is also behind all insults she sends Luann’s way (when Nancy’s not around to hear them, of course)?

Now Luann is competing with Bernice. Don’t worry, Luann. I think your mom will appreciate your attempts at housework but definitely not Bernice’s idea of improving her life. Know what Bernice? Help Nancy by paying rent so she won’t have to work at The Fuse.

Nancy is not going to kick Bern out of the house because she is trying to help. That’s silly. Luann needs to be reminded or her need to be more helpful around the house, but this is not going to amount to an eviction explosion. Wishful thinking for some.

Well, it’s Saturday, so no knowing if doing these things matters to Nancy. By the way, Tara is still sleeping on the couch.

Since it looks like Bernie did a fine job, it appears that Luann has some catching up to do. Nancy is going to be so thrilled!

Well, at least they are trying…

I think it looks a little too neat and Nancy will need the next three story arcs just to find the checkbook register.

I predict at least a headache for Nancy, and at the worst, a nervous breakdown.

I am glad to see Luann doing chores around the house and taking her mother into consideration. It is a step in the right direction, as I am tired of her being portrayed as someone who acts younger than her 20 years.

I think a lot of people here are going to be disappointed.

It isn’t in Nancy’s character to come down on “kids trying to help”.

Maybe she’s just over achieving from boredom. Nil should call and take her out for a big important words thrill or two.

Bernice should work on Luann’s Bedroom and see how Luann should react to that. Frank Degroot would be excited about the clearness.

When I was young my mom did that in my room. Organized? It took me weeks to find some things.

Psych is the easiest degree in any college – (besides art) how can that help?

I think it was Gandhi who said (to his wife who resented having to clean the toilet) that if a job needs doing, there’s no loss of dignity in being the one that does it.

My office sometimes looks messy, but I know where everything is and could put my hands on anything I wanted in a moment.

This is insulting to Nancy’s intelligence.

I love how Luann’s last sentence sounds like a hint on what she thinks Bernice did by reorganising Nancy’s work. Seriously, Luann is doing the useful things here, Bernice may have made a huge mess and she deliberately avoided Luann’s warning. Maybe Nancy will appreciate them both? Maybe this is the beginning of a competition between “sisters” to have the love of the mother? That would be a great thing to see!

Bernice is turning into an accountant? That does seem more appropriate for her.

Its totally uncool that it seems that Luann feels that she has to over compensate in order to feel like she is doing something useful and will be noticed. If Luann would just stick to the little things like cleaning up and asking her parents if there is any thing she can do to help, well that is all she needs to do. Bernice is the type of person who likes to dominate a situation. She would swat a mosquito with a sledgehammer. Thus she is overbearing and very tone deaf. Bern might have done a good job but somehow I think Nancy liked her paperwork just the way it was and it is quite rude to go through people’s stuff without permission in the first place.

What Bern did reminds me a bit of one of the first Mary Tyler Moore episodes. Lou Grant comes into work and goes in his office and sees his desk meticulously organized and he yells for Mary who politely says she straightened out his messy desk for him. Well, in a nutshell, Lou does not like it and makes her put everything back out again. So MTM and Bern both acted without asking but that is where the similarity ends. If I remember Lou’s logic was that he felt a messy desk made him look busy and I think Mary was still new to the station and was trying to impress her new boss. Bern on the other hand just is being a bit of a busybody here, instead of just doing some housework (like Luann) or volunteering to go help at the Fuse, she does the one thing that could actually anger Nancy. I think Luann also knows this but simply says: “Yeah, I have seen this before.” and decides to just do some more housework and wait for the fireworks to erupt.

Anyhow, RIP Ed Asner, the guy had a heck of a career on TV as well as with the SAG. The last I saw of him on TV was playing a diamond smuggler in the new Hawaii 5-0, reviving a character he played almost 40 years before.

I think Nancy may actually like the re-org and thank Bernice and Luann

I don’t remember Bernice majoring in accounting. There could be trouble ahead.

And Bernice knew priorities how???

It’s Saturday so unless this is going to go another week, we won’t see Nancy come in and explode with rage because Bernice messed with her stuff.

Nancy gonna be pissed!

The clean toilets will be more appreciated than someone messing with the books. Some attempts at ‘help’ are doomed to fail.

Not sure. Is Luann scrubbing toilets because Bern did so much work or because Been did do much damage? (What, if anything, does Bern know about business?)

I cleaned and straightened the house one time when mom was gone. Boy, was she MAD!!!! She couldn’t find anything.

Clean the toilets any day, thank you, but don’t touch my papers! It will take her twice as long to find what she needs now.

Do whatever you’re good at, L. (B. will regret what she has nobly – but presumptuously- done.

Where is Nancy anyways? She all be shocked by Luanne cleaning and Horrified that Bernice messed with the financial paperwork!!

It looks nice, Bernice, but I think Nancy is gonna want to have a talk with you about touching her stuff.

Painfully dull, but the drawing is good.

Bernice is so self righteous and smug, she makes me sick. Luann, on the other hand looks like she still has doubts. As much as I would like to see Bernice really get blasted for over-stepping, I know that is never going to happen, so I would just like to say that Luann is the one who actually did things that would be very helpful for a working mom. Cleaning and straightening up would always be appreciated, and someone doing the typical “mom” chores (like cleaning toilets) would be an absolute hero.

This is 2021. Businesses receive bills, pay bills and do payroll on a computer. It’s no wonder she’s feeling old. Maybe they should help Nancy set up everything on a laptop.

I think Nancy will, eventually, appreciate what both Luann, and, Bernice did/are doing. But first she’ll probably freak how Bernice “destroyed” her system of organizing things.

Luann’s actually doing the things that Mom will appreciate. I think Bernice may be in for a surprise, though Mom will be too nice to jump down her throat.

Luann does house keeping work!

Want they really need to offer is ongoing help. Not just one time. Luann should be cleaning bathrooms every week. Not just when mom is tired. She is an adult. She heard to often part of the load of maintaining the house. As does Bernie and the husband

My friends decided to clean my apartment as a birthday present. Took months to find stuff. Multiple, and conflicting, sorting systems, some stream of consciousness, which is unrelated to logic. Bernice probably has Vulcan DNA

It’s going to be interesting to see Nancy’s reaction to those binders!

We’ll all be happier if we do what we’re best suited for, Luann. Just not you.

She WILL appreciate the toilets having been done…..

I think Nancy is going to be quite pleased to see her books organized, the living room dusted, and the toilets scrubbed.

And girls, the reward for good work is more work.

The logical result would be for Nancy to get angry at Bernice for interfering with her system. So that won’t happen in this comic. Nancy will be happy and reward Bernice for meddling.

Scrubbing toilets is more important that all that other stuff.

Everyone “helps” in their own way. Nancy may appreciate both….or not! ;-)

It looks like Berniece has a real talent for organization! Unless she has really messed things up (and I don’t think she has) Nancy should appreciate it. She should also appreciate Luann’s efforts even though honestly Luann should have been doing things like this all along. Just keeping that messy room clean consistently would’ve a big help to her mom. Folding and putting away laundry, vacuuming and dusting should be done all along with both parents working. I hope Luann gets praised for this and chooses to continue it. They are BOTH trying to help Nancy and that is very sweet.

I wouldn’t want someone organizing my paperwork, furniture, home, etc. because I prefer doing it myself. Nancy may turn out to be a personality who does not care. I must confess, I did pull a Bernice. I organized all my parent’s photos (which were in a big trunk) into manilla envelopes by individuals (i.e., my dad, my mother, brother, myself, niece, nephew, grandmother, grandfather, aunt 1, aunt 2, uncle 1, uncle 2, etc.). My dad never noticed. My mother wasn’t too happy about it. Now, 15 years later, my mother thinks she was the one who did the organization.

Even Mary Worth thinks Bernice may have meddled a little too much here.

Bernice just may have created herself a job and hopefully a career change for college.

And barf first.

And what would B do if anyone dared to rearrange her stuff? She’d probably riot. What will Nancy do???

The overwhelming consensus is that Bernice has gone too far and Nancy will have a fit when she finds out, But this is the Luannivers, which is currently written by Karen Evens, who identifies with Bernice, not Luann. So when or if Nancy ever find out she will praise Bernice while telling Luann, ‘Fine. You;ve done the toilets, now clean up your room.’

Clearly, Bernice’s only true skill is kissing @$$!

It is, like, 2021. Why would any of this stuff be in hard copy format? Nancy would have it all on her laptop.

Bernie’s cute bit of Bookkeeper Art has in all likelihood sabotaged Nancy! But at least it looks cute there on the table.

This is just a mess. Who reorganizes someone’s papers without consulting them? Luann should have stopped her. This is the stuff of a weak sitcom.

He was the first to portray Ronald McDonald and was one of a number of personalities to perform as Bozo the Clown. But the former “Today” weatherman is perhaps most fondly remembered for recognizing people’s “milestone” birthdays.

I think Nancy will appreciate Luann’s help better than Bernice’s. Nancy could have put her work in binders herself.

Aladar30 makes an interesting point. To those that say Bernice carries “snarky” comments to the extreme. I propose they look to the last panel. Luann’s exit comments most assuredly is a denigration of Bernice’s effort. And, by the looks on Bernice’s face, she recognizes it as such.

Luann’s “nasty” little exit comment is the classic definition of double entendre.

These two adults are “helping” Nancy? Wouldn’t they be doing their share as a matter of course? I know it’s just a cartoon, but it still irks me.

Mom’s not gonna like it. She’s going to say. “Sure, I’m too old to do my job at home too”

It seems like Luann sets the bar pretty low in how she appreciates her mom
