And there you have it. Bernice doesn’t really want an easy break up with him. She wants him to beg her to stay. In other words, she really wants to hear Nil confess his true feelings to her.
.
So does it end here or do we get another week of this?
Okay, honest question here, and no, I’m not trying to start anything, I’m just genuinely curious . . . has Greg ever faced any backlash for this sort of thing? I mean being a grown man writing about moody young women like this? I know how, um, PC, the public can be at times about this sort of thing . . . some people have found it odd that I myself, as a grown man, have written and/or illustrated for young girls in the past, but I mean, as we’ve seen throughout the comic, sometimes the characters really veer off into the fast lane, like Bernice has been during this entire week of her struggling to break up with Nil or not to break up with Nil (while also possessing a hickey that he gave her), and it just makes me curious if any readers out there have a thing or two to say about how a grown man depicts young women as hormonal and high strung like this at times.
For a minute there, I thought Luann was imitating Axel, not Nil.
But it would serve Bern right if THAT was Nil’s “reaction.”
And if it’s “drama” you want Bernice, you should first abandon Nil in a fast food parking lot, second, not call him for weeks, and third, THEN later inform him that you two have “broken-up.” ;-)
I think Bernice is acting like a middle school student. I remember such an act back when I was in the sixth grade with a seventh grader who wanted to break up with her boyfriend. She had me acting out him and acting out her in order to get it right, and I thought it was stupid, and I felt stupid. It was. She merely went up to him and said that those were lies he told her, and he said, “I know.” That was it. All that play acting was for nothing.
Last time, Bernice seemed to realize Nil is pretentious, just like her, so she doesn’t want to break up. Now she’s pretending she actually does want to. Sigh!
When Bernice gets angry, her breasts get bigger. She’s like the opposite of the Incredible Hulk. Make her angry. You’ll like her better when she’s angry.
Luann knows Nill very well and how he would probably react. But it’s so funny that Bernice wants The Drama. After being ruled by her feelings and her irrational desires, she wants to feel in control and dominate their relationship… she’s so naive. I wonder how Luann can avoid laughing and take this seriously as a good friend, because Bernice is so ridiculous right now! But probably Luann is disappointed with Bernice and how immature she is.
I think he’s got it! The drawings and storyline captures everything including the adorable Bernice. Frankly it is amazing that a grown man as you say can somehow get inside the minds of young women and girls, but it show what real observation can do.
No, Bernice… you only THINK you want some gut-wrenching drama. And while it’s true that there are some people out there who thrive on drama and conflict, Bernice is not one of them.
I did a quick check-in each day this week to see if Luann would appear all six days in her own comic, and she did … by golly!! Time for a cup of coffee, back track to Monday, and read each day’s episode and see if this makes any sense.
Bernice wants to orchestrate a big emotional scene that will end in sex, but she has to figure out what to say that will get Nil emotionally overwrought. She really has only one motivation in life.
Poor Nil. It’s always a pain when somebody’s got this little script that they expect you to magically know and go along with. All that “When I walked away from you angrily, you were supposed to go after me and plead for me to stop!” UGH.
Okay, guys in the audience – this is why you want to avoid dating at all costs; the drama. The juice isn’t worth the squeeze. Find some hobbies or go MGTOW. You’ll be much happier.
Hmm, in the past Bernice has acted as though she lacks self-confidence in developing relationships, like with her brother, or Jack. Maybe she wants or needs constant reassurance of his feelings, not just the physical attraction. As for drama, Nil may have nil.
Actually, this is good. Luann is opening up Bern’s eyes to what may actually happen. Nil just gets up and walks off and Bern will not know what had until after it’s gone.
I don’t know what Bern is breaking up from. We haven’t seen much of a relationship at all. Just Bern fretting about being frisky but getting hickeys anyway. We haven’t seen her and Nil casually hanging out or going on dates. It’s ridiculous. Is Greg or Karen capable of writing a realistic young adult relationship for anyone? Steff and Kip are constantly in heat. And Bern and Nil are wannabees. Luann hasn’t had a boyfriend in years. And of course, Gunther and Bets have a strange dynamic. Only the marrieds seem to have normal relationships. It’s getting boring, Evanses.
My original point was so simple: Growing up is probably screwing up. I know I did. Greg’s drawing keeps getting better. And since Tiffany is my favorite character, I want to see her treated well. This is like a marathon race. As you get toward the end someone usually breaks away from the mob and emerges as the leader, the survivor, the winner. Yea, Tiff.
Bernice is just faking that she wants to break up. What she really wants is a dramatic (preferably tearful), emotional affirmation from Nil that he is totally and completely devoted to her, that he considers her his goddess, that he thinks she is the smartest, most beautiful girl in the world, that he would lay down his life for her, that there is absolutely nothing he would not do for her. Then she’ll be happy again…for awhile. I’m pretty sure this is the type of relationship the term “high maintenance” would apply to. Maybe he should have sent flowers more often. My question is how did someone who was supposedly treated so badly at home become such a spoiled little diva? She’s not even cute enough or sexy enough to warrant the treatment she thinks she deserves. Someone needs to knock her off the pedestal she built for herself and give that ego a kick in the pants.
I knew they would no break up by Saturday. Nil gets Bernice and she knows that. He is not turned off by her neurotic personality so will not break up with her.

“Games People Play”
Where do we go from here, now that all other children are growin’ up?
And how do we spend our lives, if there’s no-one to lend us a hand?
I don’t wanna live here no more, I don’t wanna stay.
Ain’t gonna spend the rest of my life, Quietly fading away.
Games people play, You take it or you leave it, Things that they say, Honor Brite.
If I promise you the Moon and the Stars, Would you believe it,Games people play in the middle of the night?
Where do we go from here, now that all of the children have grown up?
And how do we spend our time knowin’ nobody gives us a damn?
I don’t wanna live here no more, I don’t wanna stay.
Ain’t gonna spend the rest of my life, Quietly fading away.
Games people play, You take it or leave it, Things that they say, Just don’t make it right.
If I’m tellin’ you the truth right now, do you believe it Games people play in the middle of the night?
Games people play, You take it or you leave it, Things that they say, Honor Brite.
