Wiley made me think of the giant figures in the New York Christmas parade.
I have to go off on a rant. We had our annual Santa parade last night. Put on by a group of volunteers. I hate to think of the thousands of hours the volunteers put in. The fire department provides Santa’s transportation. The firemen volunteer their time to collect food for the food bank. The cops pass around a sign up sheet for paid duty. All who sign up get PAID a minimum of 4 hours. The organizers have to pay the bill the police union hands them. Sounds like an extortion scheme to me. If you or I did that we’d be wearing a pair of designer bracelets
Gotta sing a personal lyric. Thus begins a busy but special season for us. Today I turn 87 and in December, my blue-eyed sweetheart will be 82. December also marks the 60th anniversary of our marriage.
We wish for a Happy Holiday season for everyone everywhere. We pray you all remain safe and well.
May the coming years be all you wish them to be. May you enjoy many of them.
I got laughs on many levels for this one. Some for those already stated, but the first that popped into my mind was what my daughter would say if she saw this She is an adult on tha autism spectrum and used to work at a party store. One of the jobs was blowing up balloons using helium. I know her literal mind set would say “helium in latex balloons would not stay in that long and they would have deflated long ago”. She is very practical minded.
Okay, now that it’s in my brain, I’m going to poke around on the internet and see if I can find a real ship doing real seagoing commerce today called “Flying Dutchman”.
Wiley, you are such a great friend. I waited all week to see this when you told me last week you were going to honor Judy in today’s strip. What a beautiful, sweet little wink you have given her. You can see how much people loved her here. Thanks for doing such a wonderful thing. Much much love. Elayne
I know it’s been discussed before, but Eddie’s boat is named “Anoesis.” (Merriam-Webster) Anoesis: consciousness that is pure passive receptiveness without understanding or intellectual organization of the materials presented.

Dutchmen don’t really fly. They’re too busy keeping the rising sea back.

Look around you, can you see?
Staring ghostly in the mirror
It’s the Dutchman you will be
Floating slowly out to sea
In a misty misery.
