I’m remembering back to New Years Eve 1999 when we weren’t exactly sure what would happen at zero. Fortunately, the fears of Y2K did not come to pass. We eventually used up our stockpiles of batteries and bottled water.

We’re going to have cheese & crackers, fun sodas, and other nibbles, maybe play Pandemic, Give Me The Brain, or Cards Against Humanity, and bag it after the news. We always say godt nytt år early. Dad rarely makes it to midnight, whereas hubby and I rarely go to bed before midnight. The cats don’t care. Their clock is built around when they get gooshyfood and hairball treats.

Ziggy: Ari! Long time no see! Or no sea! Friends, Arachna and her friends were part of a rock group back in the day. They’re the ones who the ship is named after.

Arachna: Wow, Ziggs! I thought I knew you from somewhere.

Ziggy: What are you guys all doing now.

Arachna: We’ve all pretty much gone to more serious careers. But we still get together and jam sometimes.

Ziggy: Just one thing. Are all the materials we need going to be available?

Ora Zella is so dang cute!

I’m reporting from the future again. It’s now 2023. Doesn’t look any better than 2022, but I’ll wish you all a Happy New Year anyway. Stranger things have happened. Not many, though.

Happy New Year, all!I hope we all have a better 2023 than 2022. So many have lost loved ones, and there is much uncertainty. Thank goodness for Georgia’s creation of BCN and this lovely Orb, where we can all have a dose of happiness every single day.

I hope we get to see resolutions next year (tomorrow), those are usually entertaining. I also look forward to seeing Iggy and Ora Zella’s reactions to the many weird people holidays to come. It will be a blast!

Hey. Hey, you! Yeah, you, the deciders of fate…the makers of circumstance. Last year has been a little more challenging than my family or I needed. How about letting my family and I have relative benign calm for the next twelve months? I have a book to finish.

Meanwhile, various deities and demigods stroll in the gardens of Olympus. Outside Zeus’s temple, in the most extensive and palatial garden, is a large marble pool. The water in the pool is always cloudy and shimmering. Yet, looking into its depths, you will see faint shadows carrying on their simple dance of mortality.

Atë sits on the pool’s edge, making designs in the water with her fingers as Dionysus and Apollo approach. She smiles at the arrivals, and Dionysus nods his head. Apollo passes his hand over the waters, and they slowly clear to reveal an older man sitting at a desk, typing away on a computer; a large black cat sitting on his lap, while an orange cat, new to the family, is perched on the desk, reading the latest text expectantly.

“So,” Dionysus begins, his voice emerging deep within his broad chest. “What fun will we have with this one this year?” Apollo and Atë laugh and look down on the mortal expectantly.

Happy Hogmanay All!

We started a “Virtual First Footing” on New Years 2021 due to the lockdown. We leave a small package with a mini of a Single Malt Scotch, a pack of Shortbread (amount adjusted for houses with kids), coin of the realm and a candle on every doorstep on our court, with our best wishes that all enjoy food, drink, fuel, and prosperity in the new year.

Our virtual Virtual First Footing Hogmanay Wishes to the Orb!

I’m an undesirable First-Footer because I’m a shortish blonde female, contrary to the specifications for luck of a tall dark man. Today (Saturday the 31st) our local Scottish Society is celebrating Hogmanay at noon local time, partly to avoid the midnight drunk drivers.

The first year the comic was in newspapers Georgia said she would have like to use that one, but of course there were characters that hadn’t been introduced yet in the newspaper so she couldn’t. She won’t be able to do that strip exactly, because there are new characters and the kids are bigger, but maybe something similar.

Poor little kittens, have no idea what’s going on. I feel for the colony cats because of all the fireworks that will be going off tonight.

Off-topic: Tomorrow is my official retirement from a long and varied technical career. I have done my best to development artistic and writing skills over the years, so I will have plenty to occupy my time. I am fortunate to have a pretty good Social Security benefit but not enough to continue living in the tourist town where I have been for the last fifteen years. The New Year will be for re-locating and starting on the rest of my life.
