Iâm having a really hard time believing that the college would hire her as a new teacher, at age 92. The work that job would involve would be overwhelming for most people of that age. And wasnât she moved into a Senior home?
So do we think Jack, or anyone else we know, will be taking this new class?
I recall Mrs. Horner being a lot more decrepit than this. But it does raise an interesting point. Since the mythical âD. Cover;yâ appeared to have a head of white hair on the bookâs back cover. It lends credit to the idea that Mrs. Horner is D. Coverly, perhaps her maiden name. But seriously an author at 83 who had moved into an assisted living residenceâŠ.?
Darn this ongoing recession forcing the elderly out of their hard-earned retirement to go back to work just so they can support themselves financially. Such a great, big, screwed up world this has been for the past 7+ years â and keeps getting worse. Not only is my mom now having to look into some kind of a part-time job since her SS is no longer enough for her to live on and pay her bills, but VA wonât even let her have any spousal benefits in the wake of my veteran dadâs death. Land of dreams/opportunity/streets of gold my caboose.
I wonder if Ms Horner will pull from her memoirs that she once tried to fix up Luann and Gunther. In July and August 2001 she sent Luann and Gunther on an errand resulting in Gunther saving Luannâs life.
Welcome back Mrs. Horner! I like that fun old gal. I do feel a little disappointed that the wrap up parts just dropped off without a conclusion like Tiffanyâs break in, the Coverly plot, etc. Iâd like a good conclusion.
I recall Miss Horner telling Luann that she never married. Luann had always called her Mrs. Horner. Finally Miss Horner spoke up about it, that Luann only assumed that she had been married. She had traveled the world with different men. She showed Luann photos of her on her trips, and in every place she went, she was with a different man. Now we have her being called Mrs. Did the Evans forget an old story line?
1. Iâm surprised memoir writing falls under creative writing â though truth be told, Iâd have to get pretty creative to make my memoir worth reading.
2. Iâm surprised a university would identify an instructor as âMrs.â rather than âMs.â. So Iâm guessing sheâs a guest lecturer rather than the course instructor, and it was the instructor who used âMrs.â Still, itâs unusual these days.
HOORAY, itâs Mrs Horner! I was hoping that the energetic old lady would come back as a writer to help Luann, but that she would do it as her teacher is a complete surprise. I think Luann will love this course on the type of stories she has written. Letâs hope Tara will be happy too.
Youth is a great time to start your memoirs. 1. Do things that are memorable. 2. Take notes so you can remember them later. (Yeah, I know you should remember them if they are memorable but life doesnât always work the way we think it should.)
Iâve reached a stage in life where I have physical difficulties typing or sitting at a computer for long periods of time. Fortunately I can still write by hand and I have a very capable helper to transcribe for me.
I took creative writing my first year of college and it helped me develop some great writing skills. I learned I could easily write 10,000 words on almost any topic with ease. It helped me in many classes in the following years. I wrote both a masterâs thesis and a 30-page paper for a finance class in two weeks.
Wondering if all cartoonists work this way when writing/drawing for years. Run out of ideas?
Greg introduced âMrs Hornerâ in July 2001. As a Sunday âtoonâ in Aug 2001, he shows Luann wondering if her parents were passionate when they met, then walks out of the room while Mom starts sharing.
https://www.gocomics.com/luann/2001/08/05
Here we are Jan 2023 and Gregâs starting over again with the same themes.
I canât think of a more boring subject than memoirs. In todayâs atmosphere itâs all just a bunch of whining and crying about how you were treated, how people made you feel, or why you became such a sniveling, spoiled brat. Am I talking about someone in particular? Why yes, yes I am.
Huh⊠having read Dating and Other Disasters a decade or two ago in the library I actually remember this character. She was kind, wise and helpful. If also one of many characters pushign the âyou should date guntherâ button. But now thatâs not a thing sheâs perfect. I"m glad to have her back and iâm shocked Greg remembered a character he hasnât used in what has to be decades.
To those of you who think Mrs. Horner is too old to write her memoirs let me recommend âMiddle of the Rainbowâ by Bonnie Bartlett Daniels. Itâs a compelling read about coming of age in the 70s and the author wrote it at age 93.
Lots of speculation that Mrs. Horner might be D Coverly. Luann has the book. The book with the authorâs picture. I donât see her making the connection, so it probably isnât Mrs. HornerâŠ.waitâŠLuann making a connectionâŠwhat am I saying! LOL!
Here Mrs Horner says sheâs 92. When she was introduced in 2001 she said she was 88. Four years strip time for 22 yrs real time. So each 5 1/2 years real time = 1 year strip time. In that same 2001 strip, BTW, Luann was stated to be 16, so by this reckoning Luann is currently 20.
