There should always be firewood, even if it’s only enough for 1 or 2 days. I learned that living in New England.

Cue the Talking Heads “Burning Down the House.” That would make a great theme song for Ora Zed.

Would Baby’s First Chainsaw be strong enough to cut up a coffee table or a spice rack? Too bad she didn’t get a flame thrower.

Time to pile up the blanket fort, or maybe a blanket igloo. I wonder if the neighbors have any firewood to spare?

We keep our wood wagon stocked all winter, but I feel bad for my husband having to restock it when the weather is really blowing, so we have some kind of heat when the power goes out (including our generator we run for an hour every 5 hours). I have a gas stove they’ll have to take from my cold dead hands, that I can light with a match so there’s always hot food and hot chocolate, and a lot of down filled comforters. We’re ready! :) Oh! And it’s snowing this morning.

I have a stove that is ready to go at any time. Now I have 2 solar generators also to keep the fridge going if power fails. I had a gas one for that, but these are safer. If there is no sun, I can charge them with the gas one outside under cover.

I have lots of insulated coolers to put food in in case the power goes out. Unfortunately, my house runs on natural gas for heating and cooking. I’m pretty sure I can light the stove burners for cooking, but I’d be SOL for heat. Thank CAT that I have plenty of blankets and a clowder.

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

Tabith-Isis: Now that Table Ball season has begun, we get to celebrate the associated traditions, including trail gateing. With more on that I take you to the Royal Kitchen’s sous chef, Sue Chef. Sue, what can you tell us about this about this tradition?

Sue Chef: As far as we know, the tradition began when there was a match between Egypt and Afar. There was a sand storm, delaying the Egyptian team. They were able to take shelter in what appeared to be an abandoned pyramid.

    Tabith-Isis: And what happened then?

Sue Chef: They had brought a supply of paw food with them, such as ham and cheese sliders. They made a meal of them and napped until the storm passed. When the arrived in Afar the next day, the shared what they had with the players and fans. Thus a great traditional was started.

Tabith-Isis: Something similar appears to have happened recently. There was a tomato storm, apparently having to do with the Cosmo Nursery’s winter tomato harvest.

Sue Chef: Not to worry. Thomios and I set out all our sturdiest cauldrons and collected as much tomato as possible. We also commenced an emergency pasta boil.

Tabith-Isis: I am very much looking forward to tonight’s dinner. Thank you, Sue.

Sue Chef: Always a pleasure, Tabs. Now we can also look forward to impromptu entertainment from Pink Lupinium.

Since Puck mentions the storm caught the woman off guard, I wonder if this is Georgia’s way of introducing the fact that the man is no longer around to do things like stock the firewood basket? Maybe Tommy’s man could help out? Maybe she could borrow a few logs from Tommy’s and Tabitha’s people.

Our fireplace is not the greatest. It’s in the foyer, just opposite the front door; not as comfy as a living room. And it was converted (we think) from coal, so it has a small box and narrow chimney. We can only burn fireplace logs instead of real wood. But at least we have one!

Okay, let translate exactly what the Cats actually mean.

Panel 1. “The woman is an air head, so there is no firewood.”

Panel 2. “This coffee table is ugly and outdated, let’s burn it.”

Panel 3. “Chill you chicken littles, we were born with a coat to keep us warn until the power comes back on.”

Panel 4. “We can’t open the spice jars so let’s burn the rack. It’s vandalism time!!”

My avatar has changed to my new cat, called Sammy, as was Sammy the Russian Blue cat. Previous Sammy was diagnosed with cancer two months after I brought her home from the shelter. Her human had to go to a nursing home, and Russian Blue Sammy was at the shelter for 4-1/2 MONTHS, because nobody but me wanted a 14 y.o. cat. Sammy was a wonderful cat, loving, but not needy, dignified, but not aloof, and she remained apparently healthy for a year and a half past her diagnosis of one to two months of life left. It’s hard to see the screen right now, but Sammy took an abrupt turn for the worse last week, and I had the vet come to the house last Friday. Yesterday I went to the City shelter and chose the kitty you see above. What a little love! 13 years old, a little thin still from being “on the street”, but not fearful from her experience, she climbed in my lap immediately. Her tests are all good, the shelter vet says she’s in good shape, but she will go see my vet next week, just to make sure there are no issues.

We introduced a new cat to the household on Sunday. A little black tornado whose previous family had to rehome him when their baby became allergic. He has Puck colouring (black with a tiny tuft of white on the chest) and Ora Zella energy. Our female cat isn’t too happy with him yet, but they’re both calming down a bit more each day.

From the comments section of Georgia’s facebook page: "If this is the way you’re gently introducing readers to just “the woman” it’s very well done & undoubtedly was difficult to do."“I appreciate this comment so much, thank you for catching that and saying it with such care. ❤️ Yes, it is (and yes, it was…)”
