Wouldn’t surprise me if strangers photographed April and her little shopping cart and then posted it on FB. Or sold it to AMERICA’S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS.
While I do consider it only polite to speak to someone in their own language (assuming I know their language), “baby talk” is not a toddler’s language. Their language is their best effort at copying adults’ language. If an adult tries to talk to them using “baby talk”, it only confuses the kid, and likely insults them. I promised myself early on to never use “baby talk” when speaking to children—they are apprentice adults, and I try to keep that in mind.
I recall being eye level to lit cigarettes in people’s hands at various gatherings. In the 40s and 50s everybody smoked. As a little kid I learned to be careful. And why did they all need to mess my hair up?!
Here’s a good reason to keep the phone number of the closest insane asylum handy, so you can alert the guys in the white coats to come and take this weirdo [in need of help] away!
Always hated it when adults did that when I was that age. I swore to always talk to kids normally, and to this day, I do. Even babies won’t get “baby talk” from me. Besides, getting in your face like that is annoying, and to someone that size, rather intimidating! Let’s get some Oat Zaps, they’re 100% nutrition free.
100% Nutrition Free Oat Zaps made from 100% inorganic high fructose corn syrup, non-non-GMO’s and some left over “cellulose fiber” they put in the cans of sprinkle cheese
“Durl” …?? This woman should be recorded and forced to listen to herself. Then maybe she would realize how stupid this sounds.
There are adults who think it’s “cute” or “clever” to use baby-talk. Like those who refer to sandwiches as “sammiches.” It isn’t funny; it’s childish and lazy speech. And it makes them look uneducated.

From Lynn’s Comments: When I was a little kid, I could never warm up to grown-ups who talked in baby-talk. I thought they were, well…insulting!

Not a good idea to approach other people’s little kids and start talking to them. Years ago, that was OK, but by the 90s… Not so much.

I don’t think she mispronounced the word. I think she made her own word from two others, odd + obnoxious = oddnoxious

I go to one market that has the little carter and “LEARNER” flag on it, LOL!! I don’t approach kids either, as a guy, it is not a good thing to do.

If you have one of these in your family, they’re the ones the kids climb a tree in the backyard to avoid.
