Oh, Lord! Now they look like a couple six year olds who got into their mother’s make-up. That is so 1985 for the strip. The prospect pf them getting out of the house before the weekend is starting to vanish, Sigh!

So they go to the park and I am going to guess some guys are going to try and strike up a conversation with the ladies but who? Will Jack be out there with his dog, maybe with Nil hanging around? Will it be some creepy older dudes like the ones whom Jack had to rescue Tara and Luann from at the kegger? Piro (perhaps with Tara who might crassly ask Luann if her new “job” pays by the hour while Bern taes a crack at armchair psychologist with Piro fdor the umpteenth time)? Also logic dictates that Luann should attract the most attention but what if some handsome hulk looks past Luann and starts flirting with Bern??? Does the rivalry ensue?

I’m kind of slow, help me out, what is that thing under the comb in the bottom left?

Bern looks like a young little ol’ lady. Lunn looks like 89th place in the weekly Marilyn contest. All Lu needs is shorty shorts and a tank top to attract.

Honestly this is a very healthy response to realizing that the life you’re living isn’t the life you want to be living. Too many would just complain and change nothing.

Let’s hope this picnic will be a pleasant moment of leisure. If accidents, like a sudden downpour, were to happen it would be too obvious. Luann really knows how to make herself a great beauty when she wants and Bernice too looks pretty good. I think it’s the first time since they’ve been living together that they’ve actually done something together just for fun. I’m curious to see what will happens at the park. Maybe Puddles will meet the poodle of his dreams.

It’s nice Luann and Bernice are just hanging out, doing the silly things they used to do. At this point, you’d be forgiven for forgetting they’re friends. But they’re late; strolling through the park is for days in the merry, merry month of May.

these days they’d be mistaken for a “couple”, and thus not approached by guys. :-/

How is it that when they’re trying to look attractive they always come across like six-year-olds playing dress-up?

I don’t think magenta is your color, Luann. You’re more of a navy blue type of gal. As for you, Bernice, I think a plaid outfit would suit you better.

No, no, nope, nuh-uh! Only ladies on the cover of romance novels romp through the fields looking like THAT. Oh, I guess that’s the idea, but still, I wouldn’t advise it. Although the sun hat is a good idea.

I think this is sweet. They are doing something they used to do when they were younger and honestly good friends—dress up and makeup—and they are actually getting along! Thumbs up for this arc.

This would be a great time to introduce twin brothers. One who is outgoing like Luann and the other one who is reserved and fact oriented like Bernice. The girls would start out being attracted to the boy who is most like them, but in the end, the girls would switch partners. There would be lots of funny situational story lines available, and the drawing would be somewhat easy to do with twins, instead of two totally different new characters. Greg could incorporate small differences and characteristics in each of them, something he would be very good at!

The idea of a promenade in the park, like we see in a popular tv series, is an excellent idea! What if young people who are interested in marriage started doing that instead of cruising on-line identities (often false), or hanging out in bars or back alleys? Even church is not that productive any more because the possibilities are limited. I often hear people complain about not knowing where to go to meet people. Just a thought.

Bernice has a track record for dressing a bit funky and eclectic, which I find cool. She has her own style. She knows she will never be traditionally a beauty or a glamour puss like Tiffany, Stefi or (in today’s strip), Luann and no one comes close to Toni’s natural beauty. She looks good for her own style!

I read some comments: “Why are Luann and Bernice even friends???” This. THIS is why. May their friendship/sisterhood never die!
