Do people still park that way?

Got my license in 1967 and aced the parallel park test with a 1956 Chev station wagon.

Actually just finding a space takes longer than that.

What’s a car?

When you have to parallel park all the time, you can get quite good and fast at it. When I lived in Cincinnati (Ohio) I learned how to PP on either side of the road, and how to fit into some fairly tight spaces.

Now that cars have rear-view cameras it is quite easy to parallel park.

The problem is that there’s nothing there to be parallel to.

I just push a button and let the car park itself. Easy-Peasy. :)

Almost no one seems to care if they are late for an appointment.

I do it all the time. I never have a problem finding a parking spot because everyone else avoids having to parallel park.

Or you see a car that was parked at about 5:30 am, before everyone else got there.

I’m still quite good at it after so many years but I do feel some concern that it seems so many people these days never developed the skill. Especially when you see so many vehicles parked nose in with a corner of the tail end sticking out into traffic. And they’re shocked when they get a ticket.

There’s a reason parallel parking is a lost art.

I can perfectly parallel park as long as their are no other cars within a mile.

I learned to drive in New York City on ice. I drove in the city for several years and I could get my car into a slot six inches longer than the car. I have not driven in the city for over 50 years. My current parallel parking skill is to pull up the the car in front of me from a half block away.

and I’ll show you the person who was the first to park on the block this morning.

I don’t know about others but I have trouble parallel parking because I have trouble backing up.

In the city there’s never enough space in between cars to park, unless you have Mini

Do those cars that park themselves really work in tight spaces?

Yup, in ’57 I got my 14 year-old Farm-boy drivers license by impressing my Examiner with the swiftest and most perfect.

I have trouble just backing out of angled parking spaces. Because I drive a car, and I’m always surrounded by BF trucks and SUVs and can’t see. Every-Effing-time!

I’ve seen those people and am glad I’m not one of them. :)

Word of advice, if your car has cameras, use them only to know how far you can go back and centering yourself between vehicles. ;)

And I’ll show you two db’s who parked in front of and behind him so close that he can’t get out.

I will show you someone with a self-parking vehicle.

Wasn’t a problem when I had my MINI Cooper. Now, with a slightly bigger car, I’ll park 2-3 blocks away from my destination. I blame it on my lack of depth perception.
