Daaaanng! Dawn just called out Liz! The third panel is a perfect description of how Liz treated Anthony. the only thing that got left out was having someone else break up with him for her.
From Lynn’s Comments: Remembering all of the crazy personal interactions, the games, and the heartbreaks of high school, took me back to some intensely emotional times. It was interesting to know that the experiences I’d had were still being talked about when I wrote these strips!
Cartoon sociology? IRL we are far better off just moving along when we lose relationships. Most of my friendships (and a couple of our family) ended when our family moved again and again. Does it really make a difference when the loss is somebody’s direct decision?
In this case Anthony has already made it clear he was not strongly attached to Elizabeth. Why would that change?
Anthony has learned a valuable lesson as well, then. Someone who will help a friend break up in order to date the now-available boyfriend is probably not trustworthy.
Could everyone keep in mind that this group of characters are all around 14 years old. Of course they do dumb, immature things like dump their date for somebody better halfway through the dance.

We’ll see if Liz goes to Anthony and comforts him.

In today’s world, she would be called a “strong woman” as she uses and destroys men with no accountability.

Candance sounds like she’s becoming what we used to call a “Pr!ck Teaster”.

I had that happen 65 years ago at a YMCA dance in another city. It hurt at the time, but on reflection, it was for the best!

Dawn, you know full well why Elizabeth blew off the dance. You could have shared this gossip with her without twisting the knife.

Here is an idea for a new strip
Headmaster: Elizabeth, I need to speak to you.
Elizabeth: Yes sir! Candace ran off with a 12th grader. I wouldn’t be surprised if she gets suspended for an inappropriate relationship.
Headmaster: No, I don’t know what you are talking about. I wanted to talk about this. Do the letters F F D C mean anything to you?
Elizabeth: Farley, Finest Dog Created?
Headmaster: No! F, F, D and C are your grades in Math, English, Science, Geography.
Elizabeth: Me fail English? That’s unpossible!
Headmaster: Elizabeth, this is a problem. I am arranging for a meeting with you and your father in my office next week.
Elizabeth stares into space as ominous music plays

It’s probably just the thrill of the chase for Candace… once she wins, she moves on to the next prize. Man, I do NOT miss high school drama.
