You have to accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative.

Bernice is probably feeling like she’s holding back the floodgates with just a broom.

Poor Bernice. it’s not really fair that Piro told her that Luann and Tara are too much for him right now, but forbade her from telling/warning them – she could at least have been allowed to hint Luann off (yes, difficult, but a simple: seriously, leave him alone for a bit, he actually wants alone for a while). As it is there is now going to be an explosion.

Bernice, standing strong, against Luann attacks, and trying to make Luann understand reason, and remembering what Piro ask her to do keep between them.

What is the point of the mask/puppet? This is stupid.

This is going to be a bad one. As her BFF, she can tell Luann that Piro finds both Luann’s and Tara’s attempts at mood improvement and risk losing her BFF status. Lu might take it as a ploy to gain Piro’s favor by moving out her rivals. OR She can keep hr mouth shut and risk causing Luann pain and embarrassment when Piro gets around to informing her himself.

Hard choice. Hard choice.

If Luann could just step back for a moment, perhaps even she would see how lame all of this is.

Berenice doesn’t need to be specific. “People don’t always need to be cheered up. Sometimes they just need to be supported without anyone trying to change how they feel.”

If Luann made a Piro puppet, she’s going to speak in his voice for at least part of it — and she knows nothing about what’s making him unhappy. His situation is in no way funny; he’s staving off homelessness by trying take care of a bunch of younger kids who are probably pretty messed-up by their shared situation. But sure, waggle the Piro-face puppet and have it say silly things — to his face…after Luann has chased him down despite his best efforts to avoid her and Tara. I think it would be better for Bernice to drop some veiled hints that Piro has some weighty family responsibilities and isn’t in a mood a “wacky skit” about him.

I continue to be disappointed in the way that Greg and Karen are showing Luann. It’s hard to cheer for someone who is deliberately designed to look dumb…

Why would Luann think a puppet show, would cure what’s actually going on with Piro, is she that clueless.

Well maybe G & K are setting us up for a surprise and Piro will respond to all the effort. Otherwise this is just a bad idea getting worse.

The Mystery of Piro is too dark for a light-hearted strip like Luann. Why was he couch surfing at Mooney? Why does he have a hard time trusting anyone? Why can’t he just tell Luann and Tara to knock off and give him some space? Three words – battered wife syndrome. He may have been physically and emotionally battered for so long by people in his life that he lives in constant fear of more abuse. His abusers may include his mother, her various husbands and boyfriends, maybe others. This is stuff that can’t be fixed by a couple teenage girls. It’s something that takes a lifetime to outgrow. I don’t think GnK realize how far over their head that matter is.

Bernice you’ve already said too much

Believe me, Bernice—nobody would blame you if you whacked your so-called “bestie” over the head with that stupid mask!!

Being so d@mned “positive” has turned Luann into a “negative” to others.

Maybe just step back and let Piro be the one to tell Luann to back off?

The one time bluntness is what Luann needs is the one time Bernice can’t dish it out.

Of course there’s nothing that says she can’t warn Piro. We’ll see how that goes.

Yes! Let the conflict begin! I wonder if behind the mask Luann’s face is calm, serious or rather angry. This is the first time in years that Bernice seems to have trouble saying anything to Luann. If the tension rises, Bernice will end up talking too much and saying things that she will regret. I really want to see if she can stop Luann and get out of this argument without harm to her, Piro or to her friendship with Luann. It seems very unlikely to me.

Child please… Luann knows darn well how to cheer Pedro up. Remember the shark jumper Sunday comic from several months back that featured Burnoose and Puddles and thumping sounds in the next room? Bet that did the trick for Pedro… no pun intended. OK… yes it was. It’s enough to make Dearest Ann❤️Eiffel weep. If Ann❤️Eiffel did weep, Which Ann❤️Eiffel does not. Weep, that is. But this whole arc of Pedro trying to entice Burnoose into doing the mattress mambo is… pretty sickening, really. What Pity Pot Pedro really needs is to be in Foxy Ann❤️Eiffel’s cross hairs and fleeced for every shekel in his trust fund. Pedro is a swine. And with that, Most Enamored ❤️Count and Ann❤️Eiffel ❤️ers… time to move it along down the line. TTFN and Have an Ann❤️Eiffel Day. Oh… your lowly unworthies. Cancel that last thought. Has Luann been evaluated? She’s clearly still at the mental age she was when she was in elementary school. Is it environmental? Given the rest of the cast, I suspect there town is about to be declared a superfund site

As time goes on, over the years Luann keeps getting more and more clueless and marginalized in the strip that bears her name. She has become really dumbed-down. I for one would like to see some glimmers of intelligence and insight from her from time to time. Please?

A puppet show? No one, ever…

I believe Greg reads our comments here about how un-likeable Bernice is. This is the first time I can EVER remember her being the voice of reason and actually being helpful without being snotty.

And I thought Bernice had terrible listening skills.

Relax Bernice, Piro said not to say anything so let him deal with Luann.

LuAnn is like 20 and isn’t any more mature than a 10 year old.

Keep the faith Bernice. I just want you to know we’re all counting on you!

Piro will just keep avoiding Luann.

I dunno, I don’t think it be “telling” to just put your hands on LuAnn’s shoulders and say something like, “LuAnn, I’ve been holding it back, but you should know that sometimes you’re just a little too much; you come on too strong. Sometimes less is more.”

She could work around being direct, let Luann figure it out for herself. She should have learned that technique in her psych classes.

Bern is a Debbie Downer who thinks she can solver everyone’s problems…except her own. She is NOT a register psychologist, so she should butt out of other people’s lives. She can do more damage than good.

I used to like Bernice, no longer. Too much of a know it all that thinks they know what’s best for everybody.

While I commend Bernice for trying to keep her word to Piro, I don’t think it would be a breach of his confidence to tell Luann that he is going through a lot right now (because that’s blatantly obvious) and just wants some peace and quiet.

Shut up Bernice and let Piro tell Luann how annoying she is!

Luann is the only one among her peers that never left elementary school. She’s portrayed as incredibly immature for her age.

Don’t give in Bernice. You gave Luann her chance. Let her fall flat on her face and have Piro walk out on her and slam the door behind him, although I’m not sure Luann would learn anything.

Imagine someone older than the age of 6 asking you to sit down while they perform a puppet show for you (featuring puppets of you and them, designed by them.)

(Why do these cartoons, television characters, and movie actors continue to ignore me? I know. I must not be yelling loudly enough — no matter WHAT the neighbors down the road or other theater-goers claim.)

All Bernice has to do is tell Luann that her antics are childish when it’s clear Piro needs more serious help.

Maybe there is a way to convince Luann her idea is lame without betraying Piro, after all you are the Psych major, figure it out.

Luann does have a point: Why listen to someone who has been historically negative about practically everything? Now, when Luann really needs to take the advice, she will once again do the wrong thing…unless the writers give leave room for an epiphany. (Naw!)

Bernice shouldnt have even gotten involved with Piro in the first place and told him to go seek out a professional . On the matter of Luann and Tara,Piro needs to handle things himself and stop wallowing in his own self pity. He needs to be the one to tell Luann and Tara to back off . Bernice shouldnt have to do his dirty work for him although in her defence , it might be time to be brutally honest with Luann and tell her to grow the F up and stop being a 2 yo.

What would cheer Piro up is if people stopped trying to cheer him up

Sometimes the whole “cheerleader mentality” is just too much. I stayed at an upscale hotel near the airport in Houston. The front desk was run by, not one, but three obvious ex-cheerleader types. I only interacted with them long enough to check in but it was exhausting. Everything was “AWESOME”. I was repeatedly assured my stay would be “FANTASTIC” and told to have a “WONDERFUL!” evening.

It was all I could do not to reply “rah-rah-rah”. I cut my stay short.

Sele, that’s where Piro messed up. He knows Luann and Bernice are friends. He should’ve asked Bernice to talk to Luann and explain that her jokes are too much right now. She’s not going to be convinced at this point, unless he tells her himself, then she’ll want to craft an elaborate apology which will ALSO be too much.

When you first fly out, the airport is like a cattle car, but the plane is nice and neat. By the time you arrive, the plane is a mess and you always feel tired and sweaty. Before I became an old coot, a fresh, young desk clerk, with a good attitude, a pretty smile, and a reservation that was in order made my day. rah-rah.

Oh the temptation. Lu just set up a perfect shot.

Well intentioned people often make the most grievous mistakes. Especially in interpersonal situations.

Bern should just leave the room; at this point Luann is goading and taunting her. I say let Luann do what she is going to do. Bern has tried to stop her to no avail.

A 19/20 year old putting on a puppet show for a clearly depressed peer? What kind of stupidity is this? Can the Evanses make Luann any more silly? Bernice should tell Luann that they are too old to be playing puppet show. Just check in on Piro, and then check out!
