I was going to say that it’s darn well time for what Luann1212 called Evans’ “classic misdirection play” which is to say, changing plots in midstream. They have spent four days now saying effectively the same thing. Just like all the people at the “Dolloween” party asking if Luann and Gunther were dating: every last one of them! GnK need to start reading “Heart of the City” to see how good pacing and storytelling is done. It’s a sad thing to say because in the 80s and 90s Greg know how to do it.

Well, Mrs Horner. I have a different take on the hamster….he spins the wheel out of boredom. He lives in a cage. His life is not adventurous and he doesn’t have to find his own food. What else to do? There’s the wheel.

The hamster might as well be happy. If he escaped from the cage and ran outside he’d be eaten in short order.

Sad: feeling or showing sorrow. Being happy is the opposite of sad. Luann is bored due to her high expectations of needing excitement.

Ok, time for Luann to stop spinning her wheels to do something meaningful, or maybe rename the strip “The Trouble with Tiffany”.

Don’t think the hamsters realize they are just going round, but the Lu, Mrs. H. talk is spinning wheels, with Mrs. H. trying to offer encouragement, while Luann deflects any positivity.

Put something on your “slate”. Personal goals are good. Give yourself something to shoot for. Today, I’ll repair some landing gear, tomorrow, I’ll install a storm door, and next week, I’ll make some wooden gears for a clock. See how easy it is? Just pick what needs doing and go for it.

Ever notice that most of the manufacturing jobs earned the worker @ 30 to 35 thousand a year and the workers were happy, the unions also got them health benefits and an annual vacation, but the greedy wanted more money to stuff in their bank accounts, and did not care about the life of their workers, so they shipped or sold their U.S. workers jobs (26,000,000+) to foreign workers, now their greed is showing more they plan on putting tariffs on what we buy that is manufactured in those foreign countries they sent U.S. worker’s jobs to. It shows “people can be happy if you keep the greedy pigs out of their lives”! Ever notice when minimum wages are increased by 2 to 3% that everything in the workers need for them and their families lives increase by 3 to 5%, who gets the increase, the greedy pigs of course! When the next war begins those greedy people will expect those they made unemployed to fight to protect their property obtained at the U.S. workers expence. FYI want to see the original, look at Italy in the 1920, and what mussolini accomplished (economy down, standards of living down)

Life can feel like a hamster wheel, but maybe the point is that one takes the life they get and runs the best way they can with it? I think the focus in how a hamster feels is a bit of a misdirection play. Mrs. Horner is trying to get Luann to see that life is what one makes it given the circumstances they are in, not a boring wheel.

I have a feeling that Luann is close to a big revelation and she will get there thanks to the dear Mrs. Horner. Luann is a skilled person who can face adversity and always encourages her friends, but she suffers from low self-esteem and is afraid of making mistakes. I love how Mrs. Horner is opening her eyes.

Mrs. Horner makes a good point. If you are positive and open, you get more wonderful things in your life. If you are negative and closed off to those things, you get more negativity in your life. It all feeds upon itself. Sometimes the good stuff is hidden deep inside the bad—-but it’s in there, like hidden gold, waiting to be mined. Even tragedy and loss can help you appreciate life better or help you make an unexpected friend or just help you see the world in a different way. Currently, I’m undergoing a major life change. So is a friend of mine. I’m trying to help her see the treasure in this change and not just the loss of life as she knows it. We cannot fear change when it comes. We must embrace it and if we do, we may find these changes to be very rewarding.

I think Luann might be clinically depressed. She knows she’s in a rut, and seems unable to do anything about it. I went through a period like that in my mid-20’s. Eventually I moved to a new city and got a new job, which solved it. A change is as good as a rest.

She’s saying she needs to have a real positive outlook and needs to actively seek out opportunities to add to her blank slate. She missed her chance to experience skydiving (still disappointed that G&K didn’t let her do it). just being happy about being a blank slate isn’t the same thing as enjoying the possibilities it brings.

Luann, you have no idea how good you have it. You live at home, you don’t have to worry about paying bills, paying rent, buying food. Maybe you need a little struggle in your life to get out of this “Blank Slate” (which I find incredibly tedious).
