Wow, the awkward levels are already through the roof.

It is a start, they are both nervous.

I’m starting to prefer the non-dating Luann

By that I mean this could be Bernice on a date it’s so an and al.

We’ve seen cutesy banter, we’ve seen bashful confessions….where will the conversation go next? Will they find a topic outside of themselves to discuss?

Where did G & K find these horrible lines for Luann? But yes, awkwardness is probably likely.

Phil, black is the worst color to hide sweat! The darker the fabric, the more moisture seeps and shows.

Luann, save your Dr Seuss for your young charges that you babysit and Shannon. Phil is not a little kid. He is a grown man and on a DATE with you. Drop the lines PRONTO! This is an adult activity. First, you need to explain yourself about those Dr Seuss lines…you worked at a daycare with preschool children where Dr Seuss is essential to their reading and singing. Let him know more about you and better understand you. THEN drop that preschool teacher persona and begin the ADULT talk.

It’s nice that Phil doesn’t leave it ambiguous; he comes out and says it’s a date, that he’s nervous and wants to look good for her. They’re off to a good start.

They’re not giggling at each other. Points for both!

Y’know, this might just be THE ONE! At least until Mrs. Horner passes away and Phil moves on to a new job. Not unlike the situation with Quill.

I’m seeing good stuff here! The guy is communicating in a real way. What a relief that he doesn’t seem to be self involved.

Oh, dear! Luann’s anxiety has locked her into a Dr. Seuss rhyming mode that works well with children but isn’t likely to endear her to her adult date companion. On the other hand, Phil’s straightforward emphasis on honesty does offer a way out of it.

This is WHY I followed Luann since the 80’s! Boys, fashion and dates! She chased after her crushes and didn’t get anywhere. It was like me, looking for love. But, LOVE found me when I was’nt looking. And this is going to happen to her. She’s going to grow onto PHIL and fall in love!

I dunno about Phil, but as for Luann, one would think that THIS is the FIRST time she’s ever been out on a date.

These two are drawn for each other. Phil is super promising, and Lu can be herself, and not feel awkward.

I’m a believer in honesty. My wife isn’t so sure it’s a good idea. She like me to lie to her more often… But she’s learning to not ask questions she doesn’t really want to hear my opinions on.

and they both are trying to impress the other, that’s a good start. Professional but awkward is like 99.99999999999999% of us out there so they’re going to be okay…may not a be a barn-burner of a romance but at least they’ll have fun

I think this date is very cute. And Phil seems to be a nice match for Luann. Hoping this continues to go well, only thing that can screw it up is Aaron hill popping up sayings he’s moved back to town and throwing Luann off.

Sorry but Phil seems all kinds of cringey. Setting rules? On a date with someone you barely know? Implies he’s inflexible and maybe controlling. Be honest? Sounds mistrusting. “Gee, Phil, really had my heart set on lying through my teeth today.” Or, “Hey, if you want brutal honesty, you can date Bernice.” Is this Evanses’ idea of the perfect guy for Luann? I’d tell her to run like the wind.

I thought it was weird that he was wearing that black shirt! This is a really good start. Not only are Luann and Phil more relaxed now, but he has definitely improved Luann’s good impression of him even more. I like him more too.

Not a bad start for a date. Way better than my first date with my then boyfriend now husband. Holding hands was awkward, he was so nervous his hands were sweaty. Took him a few dates to dry up a bit.

Those two are perfect for each other.

WHY would you go to an ice cream shop on a first date? So you could sit at a table and try to think of what to say? Luann is going to be glad she met him there instead of him picking her up, She can get out quick if necessary. Is Bernice going to make a phone call?

Phil is really different from the kinds of guys Luann has gone for in the past. I like him!
