This is getting ridiculous…. current social rules indicates harassment and resul in punishment or social condemnation. Things were easier before feminism.

Consent is important. No question. But like any other concept, you can take it too far. Romance without any spontaneity at all isn’t worthy of the name. You don’t need a signed contract for a kiss. Consent doesn’t have to be verbal—this is about the body, in part, and body language is a thing. Beyond a certain point, make sure it’s okay. Then go ahead. Unless you’re Luann, and it takes you 40 years to age seven years. Or so. Actually, how old is she now? Phil is old enough to work as a nursing home aide. Hey, is this an age gap romance?

Luann is in such a romantic fugue, but I think Phil is turning out to be a cure, or at least one who can put her uncertainty into remission. She’s embarrassed, he’s ibterest3d, and he tells her gen̈tly. Whst is love without a little drama anyway? For those trolls here, well wait.

Luann’s healthy emotions are fighting with her complexes. She takes the initiative to show Phil she’s into him, and then reacts like a wimp to her own actions. ….But at least this is progress — in the past she’s been mostly all wimp.

Interesting parallels across strips. Young love. Luann’s got a budding romance going with Phil (even if she’s a little hesitant). And in Judge Parker, Sophie is progressing nicely in her romance with Glen. Both Luann and Sophie have been very inhibited until their current love interests.

I didn’t like it either. I expressed disdain a few years ago when Greg made her gain weight and essentially destroyed her aspirations to stardom. And some fanatic leftist readers were up in arms about how weight and looks don’t matter. But in fact, weight and looks are inescapably important to a person’s health and life success. I don’t enjoy it when G & K do that kind of thing to any of their major characters.

Assuredly, I don’t razz or shame anyone over their current limitations, and wish everyone the best in life. But when anyone gets dealt a promising hand of cards in their current incarnation, it’s very sad when tragedy strikes and they lose it.

I love this story line. For five beautiful minutes each morning, I get a break from the horror that is happening in this country. Something sweet and endearing. Let us hope Luann and Phil experience young love in a way that will let us n enjoy life for a little while!

Just kinda odd that LuAnn turned her back on Phil and is walking away. I guess she’s embarrassed but she shouldn’t be. I guess tomorrow we’ll see Phil’s reaction.

Certain commentators have been giving Luann a rough time for worrying that she gave a kiss without consent. She may remember that Phil gave specific instructions about not kissing on their first date. Although this is later she may feel he is very conservative about physical affection. In any case this is clearly one of those strips showing initial shyness, misunderstanding of the boy’s reaction and then his reassurance at the end. I assume Luann will figure that out.

Seeing as how chaste and rigid Phil is, maybe a little “thank you” kiss on the cheek would have been more appropriate. Luann needs to remember that Phil’s lips are not hers to do with as she likes, and that his morals, scruples and disciplinary attitudes need to be respected. Phil likes Luann because he can boss her around like a child, but I don’t think Luann will ultimately thrive in this weird, abstract, lopsided student/sensei relationship. Who says she wouldn’t have had fun ideas for the blood drive? Why is she putting herself down? My opinion? Don’t let Phil get near any balloons, because he will suck the air out and leave them flat….like he just did to Luann.

Does Mrs. Horner know what a wet blanket Phil is?? She definitely knows Luann is creative, spontaneous and effervescent. What on earth was she thinking?
