As ANY number of film, tv, book, radio, theater, and comic strip creators and they will ALL AGREE with PIG’S new attitude in this comic strip for today and from now on…Dan a.k.a….
When mine got to the point where replacing it was less expensive than repairing it… I replaced it. I actually liked the old one better in a lot of ways but this one gets triple the gas mileage. And I can see the instruments in the dark. And it doesn’t smell like a mouse house.
The day I got fired from work, the truck problem light is red when I start it. Catalytic converter is bad, $2K to fix. I had to laff, so like my luck. And by the way, I was glad I was let go, I was getting to hate the place. I retired after my unemployment ran out. I had planned for years for my retirement so the $2K wasn’t soul crushing.
Pig is at the infamous “repair the old one” or “get a new one” fork in the road sez our Be❤️ed Count before replacing the headlights on the Be❤️ed Mercedes ❤️Countmobile this coming Wednesday.
Had that happen earlier this year. I bought a 2012 VW Eos four years ago and it was by far the best car I have ever owned — sports car performance and road-holding combined with luxury car comfort and economy car mileage. And it is a steel-roofed convertible, good for winter and summer alike.
It did not have a single problem for over three years. Then three completely unrelated problems popped up in a few days. $3000. So, like Pig, I spent the money and now I’m back driving the best car I ever owned. Smile.
My close friend, who is the victim of some unfortunate events this year, had a car that was nothing but a money pit trying to fix it. Out of pity and knowing he needed something to travel for work and whatnot, I offered him my then current vehicle free of charge. (I had been given another ride, thanks to my parents not wanting one of the extra ones they owned.) I took care of paying for the registration and title transfer, since he was low on cash to do it.
Well, just this last weekend, the battery and the alternator went out. I ended up paying for both and helping to swap the parts out. Almost $500 in parts, but no labor, having done the work ourselves.
I’m retired and the budget doesn’t allow for a car payment. No money to pay cash for anything decent. So when my old car finally dies, it’s Uber, and using the very limited public transportation for me.
Yeah, been there Pig. Took the car to a local shop and they caused more damage than they fixed. Stupid credit card company didn’t see it that way though when I did the charge back.
This is why Pig is my favorite character in any comic strip. He is always optimistic about any situation. And if things get too bad, he can just climb into his happy box. Good job to Steven Pastis for making such a good character.

When knowing beforehand of the repair: is the car worth putting $6.000in it? Or is it cheaper to buy a used car

If it’s totaled, he can do the buy back option with the insurance

Ouch. Been there, although it wasn’t repairs for that much, it was buying a used car for much more.
