My favorite part of the holidays is when they’re over. That would be somewhere close to Easter. Most people have taken down their Christmas decorations by then.
I like green bean casserole — as long as I only get it once or twice a year. Any more often than that would remove its mystique and make it just another side dish.
Our oldest daughter makes a green bean casserole with bacon and cruchy stuff on top, and it’s really good! Certainly better than plain ol’ green beans.
Sides are fine, but I have to go along with the Old Man on Christmas Story…turkey is the focus of the feast! Add some gravy, stuffing, and cranberries, and I’m truly happy.
I say a little prayer for the poor starving vegans with their kale and tofurkey. They are like Jacob Marley: “I wear the chain I forged in life! I made it link by link and yard by yard! I gartered it on of my own free will and by my own free will, I wore it!”
Green Bean & Creamed Corn casserole is a sure fire puke situation….All my life…..Still cant endure it at Eighty…..As bad as riding out a typhoon in the south China sea when you’re prone to sea sickness…Been there too…Too many times…..
I have had a really good green bean casserole. Once. It had home-grown and home frozen beans, fresh-pealed pearl onions,store-bought slivered almonds and a roux made with butter, (in which chunked-up store-bought ‘shrooms were sizzled), flour, milk and garlic. Salt and pepper. From scratch. After that, I don’t even bother to sample the usual version.

I love my tree the most, but always keep in mind the symbolic celebration of a humble man who shaped the world!

My DIL made green bean casserole at Thanksgiving, and it was very good because she used fresh green beans, not those limp canned green beans.

Nope. The closest I’ll get is cheese sauce over steamed green beans. maybe sprinkle a little canned onion over the top.
