Many, many years ago (when I was in my 20s), I had a cat that was born on March 17th. I named him Shamre. He was orange and white. Nothing phased him. He was as laid back as they come.
My sister offered to take care of him for me once when I was living in a place where I couldn’t have pets (I moved as soon as I could). Her husband brought home a dog that was a known cat killer while they were taking care of my cat.
Shamre would walk up to that dog when he was being fed, rub against his legs, and eat his food right under his nose. The dog didn’t know what to think.
Some Guinness was spilled on the bar room floor, when the pub was shut for the night. Out of his hole crept a wee brown mouse, and stood in the pale moonlight, He lapped up the frothy brew from the floor, then back on his hunches he sat. And all night long you could hear him roar! ‘Bring on the gosh darn CAT!’
Time to listen to Irish feline drinking songs. I have two albums: Marc Gunn & The Irish Dubliners’ Tabby Cats – Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers and Whiskers in the Jar. I have When Kitty Eyes Are Smiling queued up, then What Shall We Do with a Catnipped Kitty.
Green is my mom’s favorite color, and we’re also of Irish heritage. There’s always a reason to wear green! (shows off the green polo shirt she wore to work yesterday)
And while celebrating St. Catty’s Day is of prime importance, I do not want the day to pass without linking to one of the funniest strips I have ever read:
I’m not kidding. He jumped onto my desk while I was working and flopped down. His right rear paw hit the ENTER key, and off went the PO I was working on but had not finished with.
I seriously doubt that the little orange daemon has enough money to cover his purchase. How do you tell your Boss that it wasn’t me, my cat sent the PO in?
Actually it’s st Gertrude Day.She is the patron saint of cats and March 17th is her feast dayBut celebrating the patron st of Ireland give a person a better excuse to spend the day drinking Guinness and whisky
Today is, in fact, the feast day of St. Gertrude of Nivelles who is the patron saint of cats. Not making this up. She was a crazy cat lady. Give her a look.
St Catty’s Day on a FriYay! This can’t be bad. Well, unless one is out on the roads when the bars close. If you’re going out and celebrating the day, please, please either take a cab home, or use a designated driver (a/k/a ‘gooney bird’).
St Patrick’s Day for me. Too bad it’s going to be boiled dinner instead of corned beef and cabbage. Don’t care that corned beef if in the boiled dinner, there are some veggies that don’t go into the pot for corned beef and cabbage that makes the dish a boiled dinner instead.
From Georgia: "The Boy and Girl left out some pretty elaborate leprechaun traps this year! The Boy took pieces of his “Invisible Man” (a gift from The Nana) and hung decoy leprechaun bones from his laundry basket. Creating “a cavern of ruins,” above a bowl of his treasures as bait. The Girl taped up a paper plate zip line leading to a gift bag filled with sticky tape. (The Boy stood on a stool and helped her taping the string to the ceiling. He is getting so tall!)Ora Zella showed up just after bedtime to get into the flour they sprinkled around one of the traps, in the hopes of seeing leprechaun footprints. “Ora Zella, NOOOO!!” No luck trapping a leprechaun this year! They were too crafty once again. However, the leprechauns rewarded the Boy and Girl with a plate of candy. Happy St. Patrick’s Day and happy St. Catty’s Day, too!!!
I wish I could cut back on the naps! So much wasted time! At least when you are a not-enough-time-in-the-day person. Problem is I eat supper and—— crash!

The idea of the furniture rising up is quite disturbing. Particularly if it is rising up in rebellion.

When Irish cats are meowing
Sure, it keeps us wondering:
What are these felines after —
Is it treats? or bits of string?
When Irish cats are happy
The whole house feels bright and gay
And when Irish cats a purring
Sure, they steal our hearts away!

An Irish Encore: Moggy Malone
In a Rhode Island town,
Where the cat love abounds,
There once was a stray cat named Moggy Malone,
She roamed through the village
Stray cats did she visit,
And she spread the message “You’re no longer alone!”
…….
No longer alone,
No longer alone,
You have a friend and you’re
No longer alone!
…….
One day Freddy Quinn
Took dear Moggy in
And soon Moggy found her
New furrever home!
And still to this day,
Moggy visits the strays
And leads them to Freddy’s
No longer to roam!
…….
No longer alone,
No longer alone,
You have a friend and you’re
No longer alone!

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Ora Zed: So how do you get the gold for kintsugi?
Sophititi: There’s plenty of gold in the treasure room by the library. Iron Glove grinds it up and mixes it with adhesive.
Ora Z: Ooh, I’d like to see him grind the gold!
Soph: I think that could be arranged. But be careful.
Ora Z: What’s careful?
Soph: Just do what Iron Glove says to do.
At the Treasure Room
Iron Glove: Ora, can you help me gather some gold?
Ora: No problem. I’ll just zip right around here. Oh, who are you?
Leprechaun: I’m Trish O’Doyle, and this is my bro, Duffy.
Iron Glove: I remember you from last St. Catty’s Day. How are you?
Duffy: Can’t complain. We thought we would pay a visit and add some gold to our pot.
Enter Elvis-Anum
Elvis: Not so fast you guys! You’re not taking any gold!
Trish: But they said we could come for gold any time!
Elvis: Not without visiting Thomios for tea and scones first!
