Some blame Tiffany for not having a dating relationship with Gunther. They question why Tiffany never “asked Gunther out.” I am from a generation when men always made the first move. A self respecting woman would NEVER ask a man out for a first date. It’s better to have a man who isn’t afraid to initiate.

So Tiff thinks Bets is his sister?

It’s like Bets is imaging Tiffany in her “Eyez oif Zeye” outfit… or is that just me?

Bets is closer than Tiff is. Apparently, Tiff thinks Bets is a relative? At least Bets’ visualization has a blonde which Tiff is. And apparently, Tiff thinks who is into eBay has to be a nerd like Gunther hence her visualization.

This reminds me of when Luann was fantasizing what Pru looked like.

Wasn’t the last time they saw each other when Tiffany went storming out of Gunther’s house after that big double date blow up? Did we ever find out what happened to make them friends again?

Ah this is a form of projection, except it’s in Luannverse. What Tiffany projects is a female Gunther/Nerd—by the way I don’t think the curly red hair necessarily means she thinks Bets is a relative, just that the nerd image of Gunther is iconic to Tiff, although perhaps she does think Bets is a relative, projecting a belief that does not include a romantic interest for Gunther—while Bets projects a sexy long-legged fashion model type. Not by the way a romantic competitor for her. What happens when projection meets reality?

Tiff thinks Bets is a Borenice – alike. Bets thinks Tiff is a Toni – alike. (like Jack Benny) WELL!

So I the mid tone question is answered and Greg didn’t make a gaffe and Lt. Uhura costume at the 1st meet was cosplay. SO THERE!!! :oP

This week is shaping up to be a DOOZY!!!! :o)

This could turn into a case of you don’t know what ya got ‘til it’s gone. Will it turn into a cat fight? I hope not.

Tiff’s and Bets’ visualizations says so much about how they view this situation. Tiff is thinking ‘girl who goes to Sci-Cons and sells stuff on E-bay. Sounds like a female version of Gunther’. And yes, her vision is heavily on the ‘plain-jane’ mold. But it’s not necessarily cruel or jealous. She’s known Gunther all her life, and he was incredibly geeky as a kid. Still kinda is, in some ways. So if she imagines a female Gunther, this is the image that comes up. Besides,she is always going to imagine any new girl she meets as less than her.

Bets’ on the other hand is a little more sobering. She is thinking ’Gunther’s friend must be a hot, gorgeous girl that I can’t compete with’. Looks like she might have some self esteem issues. Probably too many dates with creeps like Les. It may also explain the so-called possessive jealousy so many reader were insisting on. Was she perhaps scared that she wasn’t good enough for Gunther? That he might think she wasn’t good enough?

Whoa, the looks on their faces is going to be memorable.

I’m really disappointed in Tiffany here. She thinks the best Gunther can do is some gal that looks like a younger horn rimmed glasses wearing version of Irma. You’d THINK Tiffany would have had a little confidence in her friend Gunny, since he once dated the Ravishing Rosa.

Yep. Tiffany thinks this Bets will be NO competition and she’ll brush her aside and easily “reclaim” Gunny. Tiff’s in for a well deserved shock. I suspect Tomorrow will feature a panel or two with Tiff and Bets staring at each other in jaw dropping, utter disbelief. That Bets is gorgeous will be Tiff’s shock #1. Shock #2 will come when she finds out she’s going to be charged 50% of the proceeds to post her stuff to eBay.

I STILL think, actually I HOPE, that after the shock wears off and dust settles, Tiff and Bets might end up as friends. Something tells Me that Bets could help Tiffany here. If nothing else, maybe seeing voluptuous Bets will inspire Tiffany on a crash course to get back to her old slim size.

At any rate, it’s appropriate that Tiffany is taking Summer classes this year. Because when she meets Bets, she’s gonna get an “Education.” ;)

I would pick Bets over the tall goddess any day.

Ahh the curse of expectations…Tiffy will be shocked, Bets relieved.

Today’s strip ends like bases loaded with two outs. Tiff could foul out with an offensive remark – or she could surprise us by adjusting quickly to the situation and they get along – a home run.

At least Bets will be happy.

Oh, looks like Bets’s skin tone is splitting the difference this week. Someone from the syndicate really needs to get this colorist under control.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh this is gonna be good. I’m full-on imagining Bets and Tiff girl-talking about Gunther. That’s what my step-mom and bio-mom do with Dad.

I predict Bets and Tiffany are going to become business partners. Maybe Bets will also be the key to Tiffany’s quest to get rid of Ann Awful… her spunk and Tiffs sass might go places.

Fun set up of expectations.

Bets doens’t know how long Tiff and Gun have been friends and that he is her go-to friend in time of urgent need. I can’t think Gun will drop Tiff as a friend that easily.

I really didn’t like how Bets wanted to charge 50% for both of them. She completely horned in when she not not initially asked to help on the project. Just suggesting that the shoot be done at Gnthe’s lightened his load.

I was thinking Tif would have a much bigger box of clothes, or is that just the first box?

It’s interesting to see how they visualise each other. I’ve often wondered at the difference in appearance of someone I’ve only known though written correspondence or phone conversations, and how they look when we actually meet.

Bets is Black again.

I have not been able to read the comments the last 4 days. Have they told Tiffany that they expect her to pay for the help? They should have told her what to expect before she lugs her things over.

Why would Bets think Gunther has beautiful female friends? Hasn’t she noticed that Gunther is an unattractive geek? Gorgeous women don’t usually hang out with those types of men, not until they get wealthy anyway.

Tiffany still thinks of herself the way Bets envisions her. Tiffany’s confidence will win out here over Bets insecurity. They will not become friends.

So now Bets is as “dark” as she was when they introduced her….

Hilarious how they both have fantasy “visions” of what the other looks like. Tiffany will be very disappointed by how attractive Bets is and Bets’ imagination actually depicts how TIFFANY basically sees HERSELF each and every day. Can’t wait for tomorrow!

I remember how Tiffany imagined Jack as a dork when Luann was talking about him at Kidz First. So I guess Tiffany basically figures that everyone is kind of a mutt except for her…

This is so true of women, and their own egos.

Bets is brave when you consider the mental image she is willing to withstand.

Tiffany’s imagining of Bets is downright comical! She’s expecting a ‘female version’ of Gunther!

Keeps reminding of Mort Goldman’s deceased wife, Muriel Goldman from Family Guy!…

Generations differ about this conundrum. To each his own. I’m of the older generation and had better dates and men friends when I checked them out first and got to know them. When you reach that point it makes no difference who asks whom.

And the truth, as usual, lies somewhere in the middle

So Tiffany’s bringing the goods; did she also agree to giving up 50% of her gross? If so , did Bets cut herself in for 50% of what’s going to Gunther? Or, will Gunther give everything to Bets? I’m betting (no pun intended) on the later.

Tiffany seems to think that Gunther would be dating someone who is either a younger version of his mom, a female version of himself, or both.

What I really like about today is that for me, today is truly a psychological reveal about each female’s inner opinions about Gunther:

1. Tiffany perceives Gunther as only a nebbish, geeky-nerd who in many ways she views as “beneath” her in “status”. So, she envisions Bets in a similar, “beneath her” vein.

2. Bets, by contrast, views Gunther as a cool, smart, and intriguing guy who she imagines would have always had a beautiful, sophisticated date on his arm. So, she envisions Tiffany in a “glamorous, sophisticated” vein.

With this sort of view of each girl’s imagination…. I am now even more fully on board with Bets! She, even with the nonsense with Gunther at The Fuse, and on his phone, sees him to be a “catch” and a “find” and she sees him as valuable to her. To me, Tiffany’s view suggests she still sees Gunther as “disposable” for her…. use and discard.

Now, do not get me wrong…. I tend to NOT think Tiffany consciously thinks of “using and discarding” Gunther. I do not think that really not part of Tiffany’s conscious outlook these days. For me, the view she projects, however, makes it still seem that she still has a rather shallow understanding of Gunther as a person.

The reality is that all three of these characters are generally very likable and at the same time, we have a good grasp on how each of them has their own sets of insecuirites. I think the writing and drawing today has been stellar.

I love how the women picture each other…Tiffany seems to think Gunther couldn’t/wouldn’t be with an attractive woman and Bets imagines the opposite. Certainly an insight on how each of them views him.

One added thought….

I wonder how Tiffany squeezed the racks and racks of lingerie she had recalled last week all into that tiny, little, cardboard box? She must have used one helluva large Space Saver Vacuum Suction Storage Bag!

If you think that a guy should ask a girl out, pick her up in HIS car AND pay for dinner, the 50’s called and want you back. Today is a whole different situation. Girls ask guys out, too. Maybe he has a car, maybe she does, or neither. Dutch is a norm. The bottom line here is that both Tiff and Bets are about to get their minds blown. Both need a little bit of that, no?

Preconceived ideas…

Expectation vs reality. Today’s panel is a good example!!

Tiffany will see Gunther and Bets in their matching T shirts and come to some conclusion regarding their relationship. Hopefully Gunther will introduce Bets appropriately and with confidence, i.e. without confusion or ‘Bets is my thing now’..

Tiff is full of contempt; Bets is full of anxiety. G will be ground into very fine bits between the two of them.

Thankfully women can be one to put some initiative into a relationship now. I graduated from high school when women’s lib was in it’s infancy. I learned to say hi, smile and hold the eye contact for three seconds. That is about as forward as a girl could get back then. Since then I had and raised three sons and learned how boys really feel. Girls don’t have to wait for the boy to make the first move anymore.

They are Both going to be disappointed.

They’re both in for a surprise. One’s opinion gives too little credit. The other gives too much credit.

“BeGun” (Bets – Gun) Something new in Gunther’s life has just BeGun…

Tiffany may perfect for some guys just to show off, but I would guess that she also puts the “play” in display. Tiff is a diva, not meant to be baking pies and raising children, and she obviously sees Gunther and his kindred spirits as overgrown Chia plants. Bimbos of the world – unite.

I love how Tiffany assumes Gunther would be dating someone who resembles his mom. Clearly she knows Gunther better than anyone thought.

it may be that Tiff’s image of Bets is merely a function of the fact that Gunther is the only techish person she knows and therefore all other ‘techies’ must look like Gunther (in her mind).

The confusion about Bets’ skin color reminds me of a Star Trek true story. (And first, let me say that I don’t blame the “Luann” colorist, who may not have understood what skin tone to use.) I’m copying a link to the story about the “green” character in ST-TOS who wouldn’t stay “green.” (The film developing guy didn’t realize that she was supposed to be green!) The article also has a couple of other little amusing stories, including one about a doctor who was called to the set to treat a patient who he didn’t realize was a green character! Of course a space alien is not the same as a human whose coloration mysteriously changes, but it’s kind of funny.
