Social media antics : Gun & Bets

I don’t like this and Bets. She’s forcing this on Gunther. Controlling the relationship and dismissing his words. They won’t work out. Gunther will see Bets for who she is and break up with her.

Live by social media, die by social media. If you’re whole life is likes and emojis, that’s pretty pathetic. I hope this story arc hits that point. What’s next, when Bets announces she’s engaged, married, and giving birth to Hugo jr?

Interesting – Frame 3 doesn’t look like Gunther at all. So maybe Mama’s Boy broke out of the cocoon. Would be nice to see a New Years Day single frame with Gun & Bets snuggled up under a tree looking at the clouds sans electronics. Happy New Year!

You know what? I find it hard to believe that Bets is the same young woman who IMMEDIATELY got jealous of the other women in Gunny’s life (Luann and Tiffany) after knowing him for a hot five minutes. So would someone please explain to Me why she’s now taking RIDICULOUS steps to brag and show off her new B/F to World?Does she honestly think no other woman will see him on Instagram and NOT take an Unhealthy interest IN him?

And then,there’s the question of Gunther’s sudden ego. One that’s Growing thanks to Bets.

Hey. As I’ve said before, I like Bets very much. And I think it’s great there is at least one young woman on the planet that Gunther can have fun with. But if Bets keeps this social media thing up, she’s going to create a “monster” out of her former B/F.

And Bets being jealous of Luann is going to be the LEAST of her problems.

This is an audience where, given a picture of Bets and Gunther kissing, Gunther is the good-looking one. Are these “manga-festers” crazy or what?

This has gone from a cute couple exploring a personal and private relationship to some kind of cyber freak show. We are seeing Gunther trapped in the web of a spider lady.

I don’t know this Hugo person. I take it it’s not the kid from the movie of the same name set in a French train station?

She’s really good for him.

Bets is Alita and Gunther is Hugo.

And this arc is why I hate, without reservation, all forms of social media. People are so wrapped up in documenting every minute of their live, most of it meaningless, that they miss out on actually living. To me, it’s a complete waste of time and the people doing it have serious self-esteem issues and need to go into therapy.

I think we might be overthinking this here, but time will tell.

Let’s see what the coming days have in store for Gun, Bets, Lu, Tiff, Bern, Les and the rest of the LuAnniverse… advance hapy new year 2020 to all LuAnn readers!

Gunther is trying to get Bets to stop the live streaming, but he’s being stopped by the good comments. I’m afraid what would happen if a troll starts following and insulting them. Or some crazy stalker. But out of this possibility, this could be very good for Gunther’s self confident.

I definitely don’t like it when people do things like this without asking. It’s an invasion of privacy.

I like her. She is good for him, helping build his confidence.

Smoking Gun is coming into his own!

Notice that Bets doesn’t care at all that this is making Gunther extremely uncomfortable. This relationship is all about her. Gunther’s just along for the ride.

I see nothing wrong here. Bets is getting Gunther to come out of his shell and get some self esteem.

Swelling up someone’s head by giving empty praises and compliments on social media, is just as bad as showing off.

Don’t blame Bets for sharing their relationship online and getting comments from fans. There’s this guy called Greg Evans who has been doing it to Gunther long before, and to all of his friends too, shamelessly putting online their most personal and private stuff in a (successful) attempt to get comments from fans. But I’m onto him.

I just found something more annoying than geek couples. People fawning over geeks.

I don’t understand why people crave attention. I’ve always been the out of site out of mind person. I can get a way with more stuff that way.

She’s effervescent. I like her.

I’d have to agree that Gunth DOES look a bit hot in this sequence…

Gunther (NOT “Gun”) is definitely right.

What happens when Gunther leans over and says, “let’s turn off the camera” and as she does so in puzzlement, he kisses her. And she panics as it was all for social media, “I didn’t think you would think this is serious between US!”

Not into that stuff….

Yeah, just wait for the trolls and haters to kick in…

While I like Bet’s enthusiasm and positivity, her willingness to share her and Gunther’s personal life on social media, especially without Gunther’s knowledge, is annoying. Posting photos is one thing, having a public camera on you constantly is another. Come on, Gunther, wake up!

Wow it’s a comic, it’s fiction, some of the commenters are taking this way too seriously.

Well he seems to be getting into it so perhaps it’s just a harmless pastime. I think she is a bit too reliant on the opinions of others but that’s also a sign of the times. Some validation is probably good for Gunther’s ego but too much of anything is not good.

All of my lady friends are on F.B. Some of them post a lot, some, like me, seldom post anything. I always ask my friends if its o.k. to post something about them before I do it. But, then, I’m not a teenager. I think their world is different from mine. I think Gunther is lucky to have a fun-loving g.f. Looking forward to how this is going to progress.

With the possible exception of Rosa, this is the FIRST time a girl (and a lovely one, too!) has gushed so openly about Gunther! – It’s a shock to him right now! … They DO need to talk, but I am hopeful for them!!

Been watching a program on Korean TV about 6 “reality TV stars” in China. all of them with selfi sticks constantly filming, which, after editing their trips to 1 hour daily and are viewed by a lot of people-apparently also seen streaming on utubethe episodes of them in restaurants in China are the most watched programs-no supporting crew either.Now why do such people get so many likes and fans? IMPO its because the people who follow the life streaming selfis on utube, have no life themselves, so live thru the person filming because their life seems more interesting

Yeeeeaaaah – I’m the worst at communication and well Bets should have asked Gunth BEFORE to see if this was ok.

Generally, I like Bets. She shares the same geeky interests as Gunth, and I think she is (mostly) a good match for him. HOWEVER, today’s strip gives me pause. It comes off as “performing” for her social media followers is more important than a real f2f relationship with her new bf. The final panel is also troubling… instead of allowing things to happen spontaneously and living life to its fullest, it’s as if Gunth is an actor, or a trained pet who, whenever there’s a great spontaneous moment, is obliged to stop, and re-enact the moment a second time as a performance for her social media fans. Not liking this at all.

Why is “introvert” always considered “bad” and “extrovert” always considered good? Gunther is an introvert: nothing wrong with that. Bets is an extrovert: nothing wrong with that either. The PROBLEM comes in when one tries to change the other: not a good idea! I see no future in this relationship. Gunther needs someone who can accept him for who he is and not try to change him into what they want him to be.

Last good nerve for that stuff goes boom in 3..2..1!

Hm… methinks Bets is just a SMIDGE into voyeurism, and she’s grooming Gunther down the same path…..

I hate to rain on people’s parade, but this is not real life, it’s just a comic strip, a good one, but geez get a grip, folks.

Hard to believe that this is the same woman who got so annoyed with Gunthie cause HE was on HIS phone during their first few dates. Now it’s like she can’t put her phone down for two seconds. Everything she does must be validated and approved by her followers. What would she do if her “fans” sent negative comments about Gunthie? Dump him? Insist he change and “shape up” cause she’s losing ratings? Like ZeMastor said, is he just a trained pet to perform on command?

Sorry, don’t like people who post every aspect of their lives on social media. And before anyone tells me “oh, you’re just OLD” and “all teenagers act like this,”————well you’re right and wrong. I am old, but I have nieces and nephews who are teenagers, and they DO NOT behave like Bets.

Bets’s fantasy obsession is disturbing.

Ha ha…in the manga Hugo would pose as a cyborg lubricant salesman only to knock them out and steal their spines to sell on the black market, then call emergency services to save his victims before they died because so long as he didn’t kill anyone he could keep his bounty low enough so that the bounty hunters wouldn’t be interested. Of course movie Hugo was significantly more sympathetic, but he still stole cyborg parts to sell on the black market and ended up getting targeted by bounty hunters when one of his victims died.

Bets is the best thing that’s happened to Gunther so far. I’d like to think he’s the best thing that’s happened to her. Let’s hope this grows and gets all the better.

Nah. I’m NOT liking this arc, AT ALL! Bets is starting to turn me off. She’s pushy and controlling. Since when does every single thing have to be posted on social media? Oh, sorry. Since now, apparently. What part of “private” do people not understand?

Why does Bets remind me of TJ? Sister, cousin?

Gunther should suggest to Bets that all of these fans might be nothing more than the work of a cyber bot designed to keep people coming back to a site.

Bets helps Gunny-Hugo in an ego-building exercise! He seems to be manning up, with her help, too. Can 2020 be a Good Year for Gunther Berger and Bets? [Does that sound like a law firm?]
