On a good note, Luann’s room is cleaned up – thus ending that little controversy from last week.

I gotta say, Bernice isn’t wrong here.

Ah Ha. Luann has been out shopping again with that hot, little Fay.

It would have been all faded out by the time Luann got around to taking off her clothes anyway.

Luann needs to return Bernice to wherever it was she got her from.

Seems practical to me. If you want to leave in the middle of the night and not disturb the partner you regret hooking up with it certainly would help with finding your clothes in the dark.

ON ANOTHER good note – Luann’s finally realized that she’s going to be an nineteen year old virgin for the rest of her life…

This isn’t “9 Chickweed Lane” or “Pigborn”. It’s the puritanical world of “Luann”! Neither of you guys will do it before marriage. It’s just as well all the younger characters are afraid of intimacy anyway.

This is rather sad. Luann is so pessimistic about her love life that it hurts to see this. In the last panel it seems that she has lost all hopes. But the idea was really good and funny. She should have put them aside for the future… Poor, lonely and hopeless Luann♡♡♡.

Reminds me of an animated sequence in the opening theme of “How to Stuff a Wild Bikini”.

As the saying goes, Reality Bites.

Why return them? Maybe you’ll meet Mr. Right tonight and have some fun.

Luann has learned that Bernice has no interest in either gender.

What about glow-in-the-dark swimwear, just as bad?

This is risque and pathetic at the same time.

The answer to “why?” in a case like this is “Because I like it”. No other reason is needed.

This is clearly a hint toward what is a verboten subject, in the minds of many Luann fans (not this one), sex!! Actual, real, desire based sex, something pretty normal actually, particularly at the age that Luann is, and specifically part of normal human development. Oh and it could be a gag too, but I think her embarrassed response to Bernice’s pointed question, and her shy return of the racy underwear to the store tend to argue against the gag aspect. Luann is portrayed as a normal, if often goofy young woman (for purposes of portraying her life and her Luannverse in a hilarious way) who is now concerned about her relationships, her attractiveness, and is wondering about her sexual desirability, and gasp!! desire. It’s up to GnK but I personally would have wanted Bernice to be less discouraging, less soul crushing, less clueless. I am starting to agree with the sentiment expressed by some here that Bernice is more of a negative influence with her friend rather than an understanding positive one. I see the humor here, and it is dark. Not the kind of light and silly humor of my little grade and middle school character is it?

For all the heavy-handed debate about the subject matter, I still gotta say that the gag itself is well-done. Good use of the so-called “Gilligan Cut.”

I would have loved it if G&K had added another frame – showing Bernice at the store a little later purchasing the glow underwear. We could use a few more surprises.

This made me kind of sad today. Luann seems so deflated. She could have kept those, they were only glow in the dark in the dark. You never know when you might have to flag down help on the highway.
