Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
In real life, no fully conscious 20 year old is going to be sitting on a chair about to get their hair cut by a six year old, but this is a comic strip. So make believe it is happening. Luann is going to get her head shaved tomorrow anyhow for cancer awareness.
Looks like this arc is leading up to Luann getting a new hair style. Shannon botches the haircut attempt and Luann grabs Shannon and heads straight to a hair salon to fix the injury to her hair.
Originally meant to be posted under Luann1212 s comment, above:
The big disconnect for me is, having told Shannon about professional hairstylists, the next scene wasnât at a professional hairstylistâs.
How quickly did Luann surrender? That jump between panel 2 and panel 3, did Shannon persuade Luann to get in the chair, or did Luann just jump right into position?
Itâs off-panel action and, in this case, I think we needed to be clued inâŠ
Also a concern: These last few months have featured my favorite characters, from Bets to Tiffany to Gunther, to Bernice, even Shannon, and each and every arc has dragged them all through the mud.
Is Luann serious about this??? She wants to change her hairstyle so bad that Shannon with a scissor is okay too? This is truly a huge revelation!!! Shannon is almost scary in panel 3 and Luannâs worried expression is simply the Best âĄ. Itâs a crazy-funny moment that could lead to something unpredictable.
OK, is Luann mentally blanking or something? Sheâs just going to sit down and not do anything when Shannonâs standing next to her with a pair of scissors in her hand? A responsible person would take the scissors and say âNope, sorry, instead weâre going to put everything back and wash your hair and then youâre going to bed.â
To all of those who complained that Luann is just a supporting player in her own stripâwell, this week (and next, I suppose), sheâs a star. Whaddya say now???
Well, for the fans who were done with Nil & Bern, longing to see the Brat, ya got Shannon for another week. We havenât seen the real disaster, yet, from this arc.
Luann did do well mentoring Fay. That arc seemed humorous. Luann should return to her acting career. Thatâs the last time she showed development toward maturity. Now she just seems to be a matronly aunt. 8^ (
Do people actually enjoy the strips featuring Shannon? Luann is one of my favorite comics, but Shannonâs antics do nothing for me. Please, letâs move on.
Maybe this arc will lead to something. If Shannon does a hack job on Luannâs hair, Luann will have to vist a real salon to get a proper cut causing her to have a different look. For that matter Shannon might do a job on her own hair and then they both end up in the barberâs chair.
I would love to see Luann with a chopped up hairdo that no one is talking about next week! I can just see her holding up her hand and saying âDonât askâ.
I just realized that my wish to see a big fiasco is probably not going to happen. This will probably just fizzle out with some kind of anti-climactic resolution, but OH how I would love to see a scene of Luann tucking Shannon in for the night and as she turns we see a big short spot in the back of her hair!
Seems they should have cleaned up Shannonâs hair first. Sheâs dripping mousse all over. Iâd be out of that chair like a shot if I saw Shannon coming at me with scissors. Canât believe Luann is that gullible. Sheesh! :-o
Todayâs many comments about Luann and other irresponsible âadultsâ in Shannonâs life remind me of something else I saw once (well, actually more than onceâand thatâs part of the problem) in a comic strip.
The strip showed this kid, maybe 7 or 8 years old, playing baseball. He throws a pitch andâPOW!âthe batter hits a line drive straight back at him so hard that he (the pitcher) gets knocked upside-down with his shoes and socks flying off. The same thing happens again multiple times in later episodes of the strip. In the panel after the kid gets knocked upside-down, we see him lying on the ground with little stars all around or a swirly line over him, suggesting he hurt his head when he landed.Do the kidâs parents ever realize the danger and put a stop to it? Nope.
Thereâs also this girl in the outfield who clearly shouldnât be playing baseball. I donât say that because sheâs an incompetent player. (She is, but attempting things beyond your current competence is an important part of growing up.) I say it because the situation is unsafe. On more than one occasion, whether through lack of coordination or on account of being distracted and not paying attention to the game, she gets bonked on the head by a fly ball. And do her parents, or any other responsible adult, ever put a stop to this? Nnnnope.
In the strip Iâm talking about, grown-ups arenât shown, though they supposedly exist off-panel, so I canât say whether any are watching these baseball games. But either wayâwhether none of the parents (or teachers, police officers, park employees, etc.) in the neighborhood are paying enough attention to notice kids getting one concussion after another, or whether they notice but donât careâthey must be all be a pretty sorry lot of irresponsible excuses for so-called adults. Good grief!
This just gets better and better. Just take the scissors away and give her some hairspray and a blow dryer! Or break out the cosmetics. That should keep her busy for a while.
@Susan00100, rrsltx, shamest, dbradway1, tremaine53, luann1212, and others:
The character âLuannâ in this âtoon is not the character those of us who followed this âtoon have cared about. This situation is similar to what happened when Jonathan Lemon and Joey Allison Sayers took over the Alley Oop âtoon. The new writers for Alley discarded the characterâs previous history. I guess only Karen Evans is now writing this âtoon, instead of her father, and this is how she sees the character âLuannâ.
There is so much crap in the bwatâs hair that it is dripping. Gel doesnât drip. Neither does mousse. Is this some kind of oil? Yuck. I think playing hair salon has gone far enough. Luannâs new hairstyle will be very short. Hilarity ensues.

Please Note.
Luann hasnât had a new hairdo since she turned sweet 16.
Nor does she need one.
There are several other characters who Iâd bestow a new âdoâ on long before Luann.
Bernice, for instance.
But, 1) Looks like Lu is about to get scalped. And 2) Looks like this story is going to extend into next week.
Troubled times are ahead. And not just in the real world.
One question, for those of you who find this amusing (Iâm looking at YOU #1):
What would it take before You would deem it necessary finally to put the brakes on this braâŠ.uh, Kid? :)
