Dying Easter eggs was so much fun when I was a kid. Mom and I would color them in the kitchen while the Lawrence Welk Easter show was on in the background.

It’s all a science experiment. Mud or robin’s egg blue, just experimenting. Fun!

I oughta go back and do that, except I can’t, because the people in this house can’t stand the smell of vinegar. Some day…!!! (in my best mad scientist voice!)

The thought of making deviled eggs out of the mud colored, sad eggs fills me with gloom (and doom) !

Also, I hope Lupin has been restricted to a different room for this activity. All it would take is one flying leap and…

    RAINBOW LUPIN!

I don’t really pay attention to Easter anymore, but now I’m suddenly feeling nostalgic. Dyeing eggs was actually pretty fun when I was a kid.

Now, see, as a little kid that would have made ME cry… I was and am enough of a perfectionist that imagining pretty colors, and having the reality look like mud, would have crushed me. I dimly remember as a little squirt, crying when my eggs didn’t come out pretty.

My brother, being several years older than I am, saved the day more than once by knowing some nifty tricks for re-dyeing or modifying the not-so-good ones so they were nice after all.

Even if they are dyed muddy brown on the outside, hard-boiled eggs are so delicious on the inside! I love them. And I want to eat them while wearing bunny ears.

Our girls have ‘left the nest’ but my husband and I still dye eggs every year. This is the first year we missed between his total knee replacement this month and his dad actively dying. It’s been a strange month here.

Years ago I worked with a Ukranian woman and at Easter she would bring in eggs that were traditionally decorated, very intricate patterns. They were beautiful! Prayers for the people of Ukrane.

Dying is an art form … one color too many and you get a carton of granite-colored eggs.

Man, that is going to be one challenging Easter Egg Hunt!

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

Thomios: Once again it’s time to celebrate the Feast of Renewal.

Sue Chef: We seem to have an over abundance of eggs. What would like to do with them?

Thomios: Well, we need some decorations for the banquet hall. Maybe we could paint some of them.

Sue Chef: That would work. Why don’t I go get Maat-Tilda and Sophititi. And I think Adobe Style is here from Afar as well.

    Thomios: Great Idea.

    Enter Tillie, Soph, and Adobes

Thomios: Would you Artists like to decorate some of these eggs for the banquet hall?

Tillie: We would be delighted. I think some bright spring hues would be most appropriate. And maybe some beautiful scenes.

Soph: I think I’d like to paint flowers and maybe some landscapes on my eggs.

Sue Chef: Wow. Isn’t that awfully complicated?

Adobe Style: This is the time when we want to do our very best work.

To my Christian friends: He is Risen! And wishing my Jewish and Muslim friends a blessed Passover and Ramadan. To my friends of other faiths, or even no faith: Wishing you all the best. KK

So the magic here is that the eggs are held in the little dipper devices while the big end is lower than the pointy end. One might rationally think the eggs would fall out of the dipper unless the big end was “up”.

sigh. I have to be “that guy”. but not “that guy Brad”.

every panel where the eggs are being dipped into the color, they are drawn as if the gravity in the room is pulling “up” !

the “pointy” end of the egg should be “down” to hold it in the wire loop.

the way those are drawn (or is it “drawed” ? :-D ) they would immediately fall out.

And then I tell myself – “it’s just a comic. I should really just relax.”

    Happy Easter, all!

    :-)

Here’s a slightly different tradition in Europe that I only just learned about. Looks like a fun activity. It’s an Easter egg tree and since you don’t use real eggs, you can leave it up. https://www.thepioneerwoman.com/holidays-celebrations/g39298363/easter-egg-tree-ideas/

Color mixing experiments inevitably lead to mud. For some reason my 6th grade teacher made me the tempera paint color mixing monitor. I think it was really to keep me busy.

I remember this experience so well. What happens if you mix green and purple? Brown. What about yellow and pink? Brown, always brown. At least they are pleased. Happy Easter to everyone!

This reminds me of the Easter video the Early American channel on YouTube posted yesterday. https://youtu.be/QN4gRAgFDuY

Though I don’t think I’d want to attempt it with brown eggs. Looks a little like the Boy and Girl’s mud eggs.

To thos who celebrate the day, Happy Easter.

This morning I took a pic of Elvis & Beatrix on the BCN calendar for today. I sent my daughter the pic & told her to look at the eggs they are holding.

She replied that they are the Sophie & Tommy eggs from higher up on the calendar page.

True, I said, but Beatrix also has an egg of Puck holding Buzzy Mouse, which isn’t anywhere else on the page – making that one a cough

    …Easter egg.

Too many negative stinkers here. I’m 100% sure their mom isn’t disappointed in them, and probably doesn’t mind that the kids “don’t get it.” Easter isn’t about eggs and chocolate, anyway. I’d like to see how these people react to their own kids. “You did a terrible job dyeing eggs. I’m so disappointed in you. Easter is ruined because you don’t get it!” (eyeroll) Let the kids have fun, sheesh.
