Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for July 03, 2022

Yikes! Is Luann trying to get Politically Correct?? While there are some smart, up and coming, young people out there… a lot of the younger generation are basically idiots that are addicted to their phones. They’re concerned about meaningless stuff like “pronouns”.. something we all learned in 4th grade. They don’t even know how to write in cursive.

You have nothing to apologize for, Frank. The country has had it’s issues for a long time.. but it is a GOOD COUNTRY!

Sometimes, certain leaders have to go, to make things better, though….

Each and every generation “messes up the World,” to some degree Frank.

It all started when some joker discovered fire eons ago.

But in every generation, there are a handful of “folks” who make things just a little bit better for the rest of Us. But “They” seldom get any credit.

    So don’t fret.

And don’t do a lot of unnecessary driving this holiday.

Sometimes I forgot that Nancy is probably 8 or 10 years younger than Frank. You’re right Frank. Your generation has messed up the world, but I’m afraid the generation after yours have little possibility to do something for repair the errors. But is nice to see Nancy, Luann and Shannon be happy and sure they can do something good for the world.

My generation. We were anti-war when we were the ones being drafted, but when our kids were the same age it wasn’t us fighting it, we created a state of endless war.

We invented Earth Day when we were young, and then gutted environmental protections because we didn’t want a billionaire to lose his tax cut.

We decided that 30% interest wasn’t usury. And that it was fine to loan-shark 18-year-olds.

We decided that our kids should start their careers with a $50,000 debt that increased at a rate that used to be illegal.

We ran up mountains of unpayable debt for absolutely no return, but figure we’ll be dead when it’s time to pay the piper, so we don’t care.

Boomers 1946-1964. The life experiences between early and late boomers is likely greater than that of late Boomers and Generation X. Early boomers experienced the height of the Cold War such as the Cuban Missile Crisis, civil rights protest, Vietnam, long hair on men/cultural changes, post war economic boom, Beatles/rock music, JFK,LBJ,Nixon … Late boom started Jr. High when Jimmy Carter was President and the begining decline of American industry.

I will agree that the young generation needs to step up. But not with the dangerous woke nonsense that is being pushed as freedom. The Younger generations have been brainwashed by statists. These statist want to overthrow individual liberty, limited governments,. property rights, free markets and rule of law. They want to replace it with collectivism. authoritarianism, serfdom and centralized economic planning.

I will take the America built by our founders and supported by the Greatest generation. But the radicals that are a large part of the hippie/boomer generation and their offspring millenials and some Gen Z definitely should be given far less power than they have now.

    lol, OK.

Shannon is an out-of-control brat who probably needs medicating and CERTAINLY needs disciplining, Luann doesn’t know what to do from one day to the next, has no direction or ambition, can barely hold a job and can’t even keep her room clean at the age of 19-20ish (which we’re supposed to find charming) and Nancy is the same age as Frank.

Frank and Nancy are responsible business owners who financially shelter their borderline-useless daughter, provide a rental home for their son, his wife and his friend and give jobs to half the cast. The only younger characters the world could be handed over to would be Brad (who grew up and matured and contributes to society) and Toni, who did the same, neither of whom are present in the strip.

Shouldda guessed Luann was going woke when Tiffany got fat.

Just like cursive, have you ever noticed how Nancys’ hips re-curve so nicely? Of course today the stupid TV is in the way, blocking our view. Some folks call their spouse their “better half”. For Nancy I think her better half is from the waist down. Although sometimes I like her top half better. It’s a tough choice with so much good stuff on display. And that is why it’s important to learn cursive. So you can write a double O word like “cool”, look at it and imagine Nancy doing jumping-jacks.

Every generation gets blamed for messing up the world. The Boomers (my own generation) blamed the Greatest Generation, and of course, we were going to fix everything and be thanked forever by future generations. When that didn’t happen, we in turn got the blame for the mess we didn’t fix, and the mess that came after. Things had better improve fast, or the generations after us will take the same blame.

If there’s one area where I think my generation did mess up, it was in promoting ‘self’ over ‘others.’ We became self-centered. We espoused philosophies like “If it feels good, do it” “Look out for number one” and celebrated the “Me” generation. And now we complain about selfishness? We clamored for it, and we got it.

Let me say as a 75 year old proud Baby Boomer that I totally eschew intergenerational criticism directed by old dying off seniors against those who follow them. Then the old generations are saying they failed, but they EVERY GENERATION SAYS WE FAILED. But then the next generation keeps moving on, trained by the complainers, raised by them, and in the case of the three generations on the couch, particularly the last two, do pretty well, though I can see Gn Z talking about "these kids today in 2062 or 72. Good social comment in the hilarity ensues penumbra of this toon. Good on you GnK.

My honest first reaction, ignoring the punch line, is that it’s too late for that. Far too much damage has been done to rectify. It’s also a common statement to tell the younger generation that they have to clean up the mess that their elders left for them. I remember a third grade teacher telling my class exactly that. She seemed rather smug about the idea that we would have to fix all the mistakes her generation had left us. She figured she’d be gone so it was for us to worry about. Even then I saw the injustice of that comment.

So this comment has nothing to do with the strip, but I see numerous comments making statements about teachers, how much say they have in curriculum and what they do and don’t teach. As a teacher, I frequently implore my students to back up their claims with evidence from reliable sources. Perhaps the grownups could give it a go, because I’m constantly amazed at how eagerly people are to speak on what teachers do without ever actually checking the facts or visiting a classroom. The descriptions I see here versus what actually goes on in my classroom have no resemblance to each other whatsoever. Knowledge is a good thing. Embrace it.
