I love what Sophie has done with the pom poms. Is Tommy holding a painting or photo of his racoon disguise when he was helping Goldie solve her first mystery, The Case of the Missing People? Or is it a clue to the identity of the mysterious nighttime pompommer?
Iggy’s nearly polite poking reminds me of my Sara. i’ll be sitting, minding my own business and i’ll feel a poke, poke on my leg. I look down and she’s smiling at me. sweetly demand my hand.
I was going to ask if that tail in the last panel is Iggy’s, but found that it is. I had to trudge back many days, through the snow (uphill both ways!) to confirm it — https://www.gocomics.com/breaking-cat-news/2023/02/05
I had completely forgotten about Pom Pom, short for Phomas (yes, I will include the link this time: https://www.gocomics.com/breaking-cat-news/2019/10/25?ct=v&cti=2617492). That gave me a good laugh. The final panel reminds me of Puck’s saga with the meatball. This is somehow both better and worse.
Puck needs a new chart! one that shows the line from cautious play, through to dangerous play, then ending it what i’ll call the Lupin Line of certain doom!
Lupin!! DO NOT SWALLOW that unless you want surgery! Just ask my dead cat how that goes. (He’s not dead from that but he did have 3 operations to remove ear plugs and spent many days and nights at the vet for eating things like plastic bags. The gave him something like cod liver oil so he could pass it. He died of cancer)
I not suprisingly called Lupin almost dying eating them. But I like the little touches here, Iggy trying to bat them hnting who the nighttiime pom-pommer is (and being purely adorable while he does), and Sophie bedecked in a flower crown made of pom pomps and holdling a pom pom boquet, a visual I never knew I badly needed.
We have some cat balls that are like pom poms with some shiny threads mixed in. But I seldom let the boys play with them because, yes, they look like choking hazards to me.
Serious question: None of my cats have ever choked on anything. If it were to happen, what would you do? Any experience in this? It just got me to thinking and worrying.
O.T. Hello Everyone. It’s 3:30 in the afternoon. Normally, I start my morning around 6 a.m. with BCN but alas, this morning after a very stormy night, I had no internet until a few minutes ago. It was very strange. I had not realized I was addicted to BCN. I’ll have to join BA, except it’s such a nice addiction.
Just read an article in the newest National Geographic about the Rainbow Bridge. An art historian from Arizona, Paul Koudounaris, has tracked down the original author of the Rainbow Bridge poem. Her name is Edna Clyne-Rekhy, an artist. She wrote it in 1959 at age 19 after the death of her family Labrador Retriever, Major. The article has photos. I’ve never seen any representation of the poem/story with an author attribution.
Unrelated to the comic itself: the ads I get on this site are a confusing mix. They seem to think I’m a senior citizen in need of all sorts of medication who’s looking into attending college (done that already), who has a pet (no pets in the house), and who loves crafts (that part’s true =P).
We had a very warm day today, 79°F. Stepped out on the deck a few minutes ago, still 63°F, and heard a lonely little peep toad singing the song of his people. I’m sure he will go back to sleep soon, it won’t be consistently warm here for a couple of months. Local farmers are actually going to lose some of their crops, ( I think the couple on the news grow peaches and plums) because the trees are blooming now and it is a 100% sure thing that we’ll have more freezes. If the blooms freeze and die, no fruit, and they won’t come back until next year. This sort of makes me feel guilty for enjoying the nice weather.
It’s nice to see Sophie relaxed and creating art already in her new home!Do the Jr. cats know a way to get into the 1st floor apartment? Is Iggy importing pom poms from there?

Hey, where did they go?
Now that Lupin came
Down in his throat, no
Playin’ an old game
Laughin’ and a-chompin’, hey, hey
Poor Woman’s a-jumpin’
To clear a chokin’-hazard clog with
Her, her heart a-thumping and whew!
A pom pom hurl
And hwook, one pom pom hurl
Does he even know why he does those things?

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Puckmosis: Ora Z, let’s go running through some other flowers and let the bees gather pollen.
Ora Z: The Pom Pom flowers are such pretty colors, though!
Puck: Yes, but there are other pretty flowers. Let’s go running through the Zoomie Zinnias.
Ora: Do they like to run and zoom around?
Puck: No, but they are fun to run through.
At the Zoomie Zinnia Patch
Puck: Zelda, here is my kitt, uh small cat friend Ora Zed.
Zelda: Pleased to meet you, Ora. Feel free to run as much as you please.
Ora Takes Off
Zelda: Nothing like the energy of a tortie. Are worried about her getting lost?
Puck: Not really. After awhile she’ll be sound asleep and I’ll carry her home.

LUPIN. Lupin, no. Love Iggy trying to interfere – to me it feels like he’s trying to take the pom-pom away for Lupin’s own good!
