We would like to believe our parents were chaste, virginal, and perfect. We would like to believe our children are. Many of us have gotten to admitting the truth about our own sorry selves. Not me but other people have.

Mine was a white 1966 Dodge Dart. I called it The Little Cadillac. I loved that car. It was old when I got it.

Back in about 1970, I owned a Triumph Herald. It was a boxy little thing with twin carburetors that were impossible to adjust, at least by me. The battery had a positive ground, which meant that the + side of the battery was connected to the frame. That made it next to impossible to find accessories that would work with it, although I did find an AM radio.

Oh, and it was red and white, and a convertible.

It’s just inappropriate for a father to tell his teenage daughter about having sex in a car. Most fathers wouldn’t want to encourage such behavior. This strip has been too much about teen sex in recent months.

I have to be a Pietje- Precies. The Triumph Herald convertible did have a back seat, albeit a very small one. It did have an advantage for romancing in the 1960’s in that it had a reserve fuel switch, unlike other cars by then.

My first car was a ’67 Mustang with a straight 6 200 and the 3 speed H-shift manual trans. No AC and initially it only had an AM radio until I installed a Pioneer with money I saved up from working as a “bottle boy” at Publix (processed the returnable soda and long neck bottles as well as stocking the beer/soda aisle). Great car, wish I still had it!

For this why it’s impossible not to love Frank. His sense of humor that makes him constantly joke with his children and his total love for his wife, who is always at the center of his thoughts. It’s funny how he can embarrass Luann. That car must really be a good memory for him, it would be nice to hear Nancy’s opinion. Puddles seems to be having a lot of fun.

Luann’s father’s memory is not that great. Triumph Heralds were only sold in the US until 1968 (and very few were sold as they were slow and unsuited for US roads). Also the convertible is not a 2-seater.

’65 Chevy Belair, V-6. I installed an AM-FM radio. 8-track player, and speakers in the doors. Many a mile burned cruising in it (gas was amazingly cheap). Insurance was $128 per year. And it was blue. Anything more would be TMI ….

Frank is funny. he knows how to get a rise out of Luann who is nearly 20 but still views her parents through the eyes of a 7 yr old child, i.e. a stalwart, asexual, emotion free being, preacher of morality, provider of all sustinence in life and full of endless patience. Maybe this would be the best use of robotics.

Frank, you don’t want to hear about any make out sessions Luann might have. She doesn’t want to hear about make out session you had in that Triumph with Nancy. (Although Nancy probably wouldn’t mind reminiscing about them, wouldn’t want to recreate them.)

I took this to be Luann trying to figure out her father’s online password (or log in question), he realized that and was purposely avoiding the answer in the most embarrassing way possible. Let’s not forget Luann’s (IMO not all that helpful) s-e-x talk from her mother who simply said wait until marriage the way she and Frank presumably had. As someone else noted, Frank is making a Titanic reference.

    Heh.

Some “Folks” say that Frank’s talking to his daughter about his make-out session’s in his TR3, “cringeworthy.”

Frankly, I found Al and Irma’s “sexcapades over the phone” to be even ”Cringier.” (2018)

But Lu has a point. Kids generally don’t want to hear about their parents sex lives. Especially from parents who, at the same time, go to ridiculous lengths to keep their kids from having sex. Again, I’m looking at Al and Irma. But also at Luann’s mom Nancy, who made darn sure that her son Brad, didn’t have Toni as a temporary roommate that time when Brad got hurt years ago.

As for Frank fondly remembering his old TR3?

Well, there’s going to be a LOT of THAT type of “reminiscing” in the not too distant future, when everybody is driving electric cars.

And the power grid goes down……, ;-)
