Agnes the correspondent — love that!

The mice have come such a long way from their reckless youth. Change can be a beautiful thing.

Our little Golden Mouse may show everyone the meaning of “brave” before this winds up. Being a war correspondent isn’t for the faint of heart.

Agnes will do well. Puck doesn’t need to worry about her. If nothing else, she has her sisters to support her.

She’s doomed.

OT re Sad News

September and the major arcana of this month is…Wheel of Fortune. Queen Magnet stands in front of an old (tractor?) tire with three of her henchraccoons climbing up, over, and down the tire.

Agnes has come a long way since she was that quivering ball of fear cowering on the floor after being the only one caught in the hat box trap.

Agnes is certainly colorful today. Golden fur, green eyes, pink sweatshirt, turquoise pants (or possibly skirt), purple backpack. She makes it all look harmonious. Styling, sister!

Good luck Agnes, we’re rooting for you and all the Robber Mice. We’re hoping your addition will turn the tide of this war.

It looks like Puck may be our Upcoming Events anchor at BCN. I’m sure he’ll do us all proud.

Pucky looks both terribly worried and so proud at the same time for little Agnes! Wouldn’t it be something if Agnes was the savior in all of this?

I wish I was brave like Agnes!

From Agnes’s journal: I’m standing in a trench, that was skillfully dug, by the freedom fighting moles. I can see just a hint of twilight, in the sky. So far, no sign of Wicket and his army…all is quiet, in the Western Wild Lands…

Apropos of nothing, two of the words from the NY Times spelling bee for today and “mice” and “mole”.

Looks like the typical “goodbye I’m off to war” scene. “Hold down the anchor desk” and Pucky is sad and brave and cheering her on at the same time..

The friendship between Puck and Agnes is so sweet, especially given how it started.

Agnes: Well I’m gonna join my sisters as we head out to the field

I believe the mice will be instrumental in the outcome of this conflict.

I had to laugh this morning. I turned the calendar to SEPTEMBER and who should appear?? The RACCOONS!

This whole storyline is beginning to remind me of Andrew May, the Senator during WW II who is credited with the sinking of 10 American Submarines because he couldn’t keep his big mouth shut. He gave away secrets as to the actual depth American Submarines could dive at the time. A depth far deeper than the Japanese believed possible.

This has become a story Of Mice and Moles.

Love that the animals are all friends! None (except Wicker) trying to eat each other.

I fear Puck may need to come to Agnes’ rescue.

Agnes knows how to gear up for the fields and still dress smart! But I’d wear a helmet.

Awwwww. I love these two. I like how Georgia has kept their close friendship consistent over the years despite the large gaps in seeing it.

Meanwhile my backyard raccoon families are getting older and more rambunctious. Last night they knocked the top off the picnic table, which is made in two parts, a metal tubing base and a plexiglass top set in a round metal tube. The two parts are meant to be bolted together but something happened long ago to the bolts and now the top just sits on the base. Well, no longer – last night there was a huge clash CLANG! and then the sound of many small people running for the trees while the newly liberated top rolled several feet away before coming to a rest against a cast iron chair. We watched the night cam for about fifteen minutes until the babies got up the nerve to return and investigate the big clangy thing. Eventually they decided it was much more fun in its new, lower to the ground position and hid under and played around it. We have left it there for the moment because if it fell again it might hurt a baby.

In other news, the newest treasure the raccoons have brought to our yard is a green soapstone manatee. It’s quite a nice little hand carved statue and I think they must be getting into an attic somewhere, seems too nice to throw away. Coincidentally I read an article just this morning about manatees displaced and injured by the recent hurricane.
