Back in middle school, I knew someone who would say “Sugar honey ice tea” whenever she felt like swearing. Would that be a reverse abbreviation?

Sometimes I just cut to the chase and say, Oh, swear words!

Refreshing to see Goat actually putting a snob in his place rather than BEING the snob.

Wait until Mr. Snob hears “s’up”.

So … maybe once in a while, instead of just saying goodbye,

…. say “God be with ye.” or “God be with you.”

… or double up and kind of say it twice “Goodbye. God be with you.”

Vaya Con Dios means the same thing, sorta (Go with God).

I find it annoying when people text/write “ty” because “thank you” just takes soooo much effort.

To a snob you say “Don’t let the door hit you where the good Lord split you”!

Isn’t putting snobs in their place Rat’s job? Apparently, Rat’s condition is contagious.

After some thought, I’ve realized “rats” is the word I use instead of curse words. And not often enough.

I took several courses in linguistics in college and graduate school. Do you know what linguists say when hearing slang and poor grammar, etc. Nothing. Language changes, and different groups use different slang.

What does it matter whether they say, “Goodbye” or “So long?”

This makes the Goat the snob.

Learned something new today. I fact checked and goat is correct. Adios is A Dios loosely translated as “with God” so it definitely makes sense

And perhaps “God be with ye” is a shorter version of some much longer invocation.

One of the last James Bond novels by Ian Fleming had Bond just getting off a 12-hour-flight to Tokyo at which time he said: “Freddy Uncle Charley Katie”.

If Goat is correcting people, doesn’t that make him the snob?

And we learned in Spanish class that “Adios” is short for “Vaya con Dios” (Go with God).

“Later Bro” is three syllables, where “Goodbye” is two. How is it an abbreviation?

The overall trend in every language ever spoken is to replace long words or phrases with shorter, more memorable ones. Same goes for abbreviations. How many people, do you suppose, ever stop to think what “Mrs.” means? (To save you having to look it up, it was “mistress”.) It’s easier with “Ms.”, which never originally meant anything; it was just a back-formation intended to parallel “Mr.” for men.

Snobs suck.

We have been sanding down the English language for a long time. Even earlier 20th Century writing seems too wordy these days.
