And he just called Luann “stupid.” Yes, it’s part of a phrase, but that phrase (K.I.S.S.) still ends by calling the listener “stupid.” No one wants to hear them being called stupid.
“My life is a jammed jumble, my brain is a bammed bumble, my lips are a crammed crumble. I will not eat this pink goo, I will not eat when I have to poo, I really need this jar of glue, but I cannot buy, because I have the flu!”
Actually, delivered by the right people, I find it humorous. Sometimes you just don’t see how you over complicate stuff. But I think she needs more kissing in her life—you may as well have a reason for being stupid.
It seems like a century ago (In Luann-time, maybe it is), but her relationship with Quill went well past kissing, if not all the way to home plate. They were on a bed, and only a phone call from Quill’s dad stopped them from going all the way.
It doesn’t really make sense she’d be that shocked, given that she likes this guy, and is in college, and they are on a date. They did agree no kiss on the first date, and I could see a raised eyebrow or two about him seemingly suggesting they break it—well,it’s hard to denote a raised eyebrow when your brows are somehow integrated with your bangs.
I wonder how much angry fan commentary—maybe even physical letters—came as a result of Luann and Quill’s interrupted tryst, and there were a few such incidents later, never really specified. Many—probably most—would have enjoyed it. Luann was old enough to experiment. But the reason the sex lives of most of the characters are in hold seemingly forever is there’s a section of the readership that believe, contrary to all evidence, sex should wait for marriage. When in fact it almost never does, and that goes for most religious folks as well.
Oh, that sly Phil! “Sounds like you need to kiss,” he says, giving Luann a chance just possibly to reply, “That’s exactly what I need!” and lean across the table and plant one on him. But when she instead asks “What? KISS?” he’s ready with the “out” of claiming he meant the acronym.
Phil is probably right. Luann could benefit from this kiss and he seems really eager to help her with that. His way of doing things is interesting and I’m curious to know what he will suggest. Maybe this time Luann can find something that gives her real satisfaction and that can become a job.
Luann’s life is not completely a “Jammed jumble”. She is a type of person who has trouble focusing on doing just one thing. Almost like she has ADHD. She is good at doing gig jobs, which earn her a little living, but not like a career would. It’s the specialists who make the bigger salaries and often have health and retirement benefits.
Hope the acronym KISS here, so hopeful, is a touchstone to what actually develops between Lu and Phil. She needs an opposite. She has an opposite BFF, her brother has wooed an opposite babe, heck her parents are opposites, babe marrying kind of a nerdy guy who is a great husband and father actually; it makes sense this may be permanent.
I wish that Greg would let LuAnn grow up enough to realize that her true passion has been there all the time—working with children. She’s great at it and loves it, so why not write the script that she finally recognizes and embraces it?
It’s still very much in the air…but most men know that a woman decides what’s gonna happen pretty early on. Lu’s expression in the final panel is a giveaway: She’s got a bit of Bernice’s Nil neurosis going on above the eyebrows. Are we being forewarned of Lu perhaps initiating a kiss on Saturday? One thing that is certain is that Phil does appear to be taking a leadership role between the two. Wise men know that women like that sort of thing.
I just looked at Phil’s advice and don’t really see how practical it is. Luann goes to classes, spends time with family and friends and works with kids. I don’t see exactly how she would simplify that unless she stopped working with kids, which I assume is a money making job which probably helps her out financially. Should she stop studying? Isolate herself from friends and family? I think the KISS principle doesn’t really work here.
You might want to go clean off your shoes, Phil. You really stepped in it with that KISS comment. Probably should have changed the second “S” to something less offensive. Getting closer to the time that Luann spills ice cream on her shirt. At least the color of her ice cream matches her jacket…

KISS stands for: Keep it Short and Simple No need for stupid in it.

Phil better have an actual kiss ready to deliver. Luann didn’t have a problem with that when dating Quill.

If anybody is reading “Luann Again,” and is getting tired of the current arc, this is Aaron Hill+Gunther and Luann needs to keep him at all costs

Now he doesn’t come out as awkward but as stupid. But it’s not his fault, it’s the way he’s written.

Perhaps Phil’s beginning to relax and warm up to Luann, and he meant to be suggestive by cleaver use of a double entendre? ❤❤

Well, you ain’t homeless, Lu.
So there’s THAT.
And Phil.
You expect a kiss after saying something like “Keep it simple Stupid??”
On a lighter note, I Iook forward to the rest of the cast’s “reaction” to Phil. ;-)

Like I said, you never kiss on the first date unless you really hit it off and it looks like these two have really hit it off.

LuAnn – “Are you calling me stupid?”
Phil – “Are you admitting to being stupid?”
LuAnn – "No. You just said “Keep it simple stupid.”"
Phil – “That’s keep it simple stupid, not keep it simple, stupid.”
LuAnn – “Oh. Where’s the pucker come in ?”
Phil – “No our next date if you’re up to it.”
