My Mom made a spinach salads that had a very tasty dressing.

Well, before that there was garlic. And before THAT, there was rubbing the fur of a small “magical” animal. (No, not a Jeep; I don’t recall the name of the animal, and I think Segar used it only in the comic strip.)

Honestly, I like a good spinach salad myself…but yeah, have to agree, this all would be taking it a bit too far.

Family members compete to see who’s more clueless about certain things.

Spinach and broccoli are some the vegetables my family never fixed when I was growing up.

In block 2, she looks like a sucker fish.

The corn cob pipe is a nice touch.

The tattoo is a nice touch.

When Roger says special, it means crazy.

I don’t think my wife would mind something like this, as long as I turned most of the spinach into palak paneer.

Ah yes, Andy and her weird vegetarian dinners. Beetloaf, wheatmeal, turkey-flavored soy pastes…it’s no wonder the kids packed up and left when they saw that coming.

‘Special’ doesn’t always mean sane.

Hmm. A spinach salad with yams? You’d probably want to roast the yams to keep them somewhat firm. Or, for a bit more effort, candied yams might work, though some recipes do get a bit mushy, they don’t HAVE to be. Not sure what you’d combo with that or what sort of dressing you’d use, but it doesn’t seem like a completely unworkable idea.

I like spinach yet need more then that.

She’s a SWEET potato.

At least spinach is actual food stuff. Be nice to have a hot bacon fat dressing to pour over it though.

“I’d prefer Instant Quaker Oatmeal, please.” (Popeye advertised that for a short time, until Quakers complained he was too violent.)

It’s nice to see Andy loosen up a bit.

The Popeye movie with Robin Williams bombed, but it was probably the most accurate real life depiction of the Popeye character. Robin was an amazing actor in my book, and I still miss him.

While I do love raw spinach, preferably with cranberries, walnuts, and balsamic vinaigrette, too much of a good thing is also not good for you.

So Roger’s sense of “humor” was finally contagious?

Of all the myriad ways to serve spinach, she chooses only salad? Spinach souffle would have made a great entree or Tiropita ( greek egg and Spinach pie) as well.

I like spinach, with a ribeye.

Roger, how fast can you get the pizza place to deliver?

At least none of the kids was harmed in the course(s) of this dinner.

Coincidentally, I consumed a homemade spinach salad just before reading this strip, partly because I like it and partly to atone for a quickie dinner at McDonald’s tonight. But as the appetizer and the entree? A little too much, I think. She could have made spinach stuffed shells (which, as it happens, I’ll be making for dinner later in the week).

She needs to add hamburgers – how else can Wimpy promise to pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today?

Is there Olive Oil dressing on the salad?

You can hardly notice it, but her right eye is squinted just like Popeye’s eye.

Now we know where Jason gets his personality.

Looks as though the kids got wind of Andy’s dinner plans, and quickly invited themselves elsewhere to eat.

I’m not a great fan of spinach, but I tried a recipe for a soup that included spinach, chickpeas, and leeks, simmered together and then blended. Very healthy, and amazingly tasty!
