MMMMM… There’s nothing like enjoying a nice hot coffee, in the back seat of the car, while it’s snowing outside.

Looks like Brad and Luann have everything nicely in hand. Let’s hope they can find the lodge without any troubles.

There’s no way I’d sit in the car while my kid put the snow chains on by himself! My folks didn’t raise me that way! Yours either!

We go somewhere, my daughter drives. It is nice!

Something bad will happen.

Are tire chains still legal in some states? It’s been so long since I’ve seen anyone use them, I forgot they they were a thing.

I like how the kids have taken over and taking care of their parents, but I anticipate a cold, drafty cabin in the near future.

Still think the cabin will be a hovel with an outhouse…

Brad: “It’s 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark… and we’re wearing sunglasses.”

Luann: “Hit it.”

Enjoy while you can folks. Next week’s arc will be the cabin with a hole in the roof and no food.

I fear that this family jaunt is going to become a tale of survival. I don’t like tales of survival, I like tales of sipping cafe mocha in front of a big fireplace, in a large, comfortable lodge.

I wonder if Torgo will be at the lodge?

I’m at this stage with all my kids grown up and helpful The best!

…..Chains?

I’m really enjoying this family trip. It’s snowing all around, but there’s a lot of heat inside the car. It’s now pretty sure this arc will last at least until Christmas. I wonder if Toni will manage to arrive as a surprise in the end. The composition of the first panel is really beautiful.

Where IS this place, the North Pole or the Isle of Misfit Toys?

And Will We soon be hearing Burl Ives singing and be getting a visit from an Angry Bumble? ;-)

Bigger question is once they get there, how long before the roads are clear to go home.

As a parent of grown kids, this must be a dream!

Love these snow scenes! It’s great to see the DeGroot family having a good adventure. Glad to see Brad thought of putting on the tire chains.

Where is Toni? I must have missed something.My thought, they will get stuck and stranded, and the amazing Toni will come to their rescue.

First Frank goes sky diving because Luann is gutless. Let’s see how he handles this vacation weekend in hell in a cabin he did not even bother to ask for a picture of.

They make plastic chains now that you can easily install. Well, easily on the ads. As for reality, who knows.

You wouldn’t have thought, but they trained their kids well.

Brad and Luann have come a long way since high school, especially Brad.

I’m glad I’ve never needed to deal with snow chains.

We missed the last part where Luann hands her father back his credit card.

This trip seems to be going smoothly. Brad is the responsible firefighter. Luann is considerate. I’m waiting for the glitch, lol! It would be nice to have a lovely adventure without any problems, but this is a cartoon. ;-)

First we don’t have Toni going and I agree she couldn’t leave but i think she will be called to get them out of the ditch.

This is a nice change of pace! During the Holidays, Brad is usually complaining about putting the lights on the house and Luann is deciding what to re-gift her dad or writing one of her famous “I have no gifts” letters. Of course, this might be a Thanksgiving story (but I don’t think they would leave Toni and Shannon out of Thanksgiving). Maybe it’s a No Holiday story. I keep expecting something seasonal. That Halloween story lasted so long maybe we’ll see Thanksgiving in January and Christmas in February!

OK, is Greg going to cop out again and force them to spend their holiday in some crappy shack without indoor plumbing? After the skydiving fiasco, I wouldn’t put it past them.

Still waiting but I did the job because it was the right thing not for any payoff down the road…..

I agree Nancy, you have raised two mature and responsible adult children.

Nothing like being in parental paradise.

One more day! Something shocking must happen! Maybe Stef or Ann Eiffel will be staying in that lodge!

If the weather now means that chains are in order, you are going into a more remote/isolated/rural/ possibly topographically challenging area that you’ve never been to before, and are not driving a 4-wheel drive (think real Jeep) vehicle or balanced all wheel drive (Subaru!) vehicle it is time to Turn Around. Trust me. Been there, done that, and even with either of the mentioned vehicles (I have both) it is Not a good idea.

So nice to see Luann and Brad taking care of their parents!

I can’t believe they left their parents untended in the car. How neglectful!

note, this is the payoff if you’re a GOOD parent, don’t expect to be owed this just because you managed to pop out your DNA into someone.

All right, kids, get out of the car and use restroom in gas station. I don’t care if you don’t have to go— try! We might not see another for 13 hours.

You never know the real pleasure of chauffeur service until you try it.

It’s snowing, it’s getting dark, and they are in unfamiliar territory. Go back in the gas station and find out how far you still have to go, what will the road be like, and weigh your options: push on or turn around. Jumping out of an airplane is one thing, but Mother Nature can be a very dangerous mistress.
