- What is the point of continuing this arc? This alleged relationship has ended. The readers understand that. Why can’t we move on to something else?

@ArgythreeIf the characters actually, definitively break up in panels this week it will have been worth it (to me). Watching them together is panel. They really don’t seem to enjoy each other’s company or have fun together. At least Quill doesn’t, but he’s not invested enough to actually pull the trigger and end it. Luann seems more infatuated with the idea of Quinn, and doesn’t seem to connect with him on any real level. Neither of them are terrible, both of them are kinda petty, and sometimes this is how relationships are ….. okay but not good enough and you have to move on.

Again, Luann – did you research and book a flight to NYC for Christmas as you promised? You’ve been avoiding making this trip because deep down you’re afraid of taking a chance on love and perhaps failing … -Maybe you and Gunther do deserve each other … and god help us all if this is where Greg and Karen Evans want to take this strip … -The only redeeming value we can cling to is that the shrinking syndication offerings will kill Luann long before the Gunthann engagement story arc can ever be drawn.

I believe it was Luann who made other plans the first time, then her parents changed their plans the second time. It wasn’t Quill, but Lu has forgotten. I guess she is just taking her frustration out on him.

Wow, she is sooo mad!! She is entitled. Quill either figures out how to pass this test of his insensitivity to her feelings, or he fails. That is still up in the air, but right now its not looking too good. To have a successful relationship both have to try at least to be sensitive to the others feelings, and Quill is insensitive because it seems clear his career in theater is the first priority for him. If he wants Luann for real he needs to quickly find a way to let her know how he feels and apologize to her, and make it stick. This is one of those moments dude, are you up to it? I doubt it. He should back out of the shows over the break, but I will put up 20 hypothetical bucks he does not.

maybe is partly that Q is kind of “laid back” type of person, that likes to say “future tentative projects” that comes across as “definitive plans” to such an extreme, that in this case…………….. I have to agree with Lue

They are just kids and obviously for a long-term relationship.Question for Luann. Has she actually saved enough money for the trip? Has she given her parents the heads up about the trip? Question for Quill. If you have figured out that you want to pursue the theater, why don’t you let Luann go? After all she wants to do things with somebody.

She is so pathetic. I don’t care if it is her comic strip, she is totally not worth this aggravation.

The other characters in this strip are much more interesting and likable than Luann and Quill. They’re both self absorbed. We get enough of this type in real life. Let’s focus on the other characters who are at least interesting and entertaining.

It does appear that all of you who hate Quill may win here… Personally, I’d like to see Luann grow up a bit out of this arc. Just sayin’.

I’ll miss Quill much more than I’d miss her, The Drama Queen.

They’ve been fighting more lately than enjoying each others company, because Quill is not devoting enough quality time with Luann. If they are to stay together, Quill has to find a way to make it up to her, otherwise, what’s the point. I also see they have very little in common.

Luann has become the least interesting character in this strip. Frankly, I wish she had been the one to go to Peru and that we had left her there.

I’m loving how Quill’s and Luann’s arguing is reflecting in the arguing here. No comic creator could ask for more.

The topic never came up after it was mentioned months ago. Quill thought it was just an idea that was never followed through, while Luann thought if she gets her parents permission, it was a done deal. Again, no communication.

A lot of you LuAnn haters out there (seriously, why do you even read this strip, if all you want to say is how much you hate the main character? Or am I answering my own question? Anyways, back to my point) are missing a point brought up in today’s strip; HE asked HER. The whole trip was his idea. But every time it got to the chosen hour, his true love (theatre) got in the way.

“Hey LuAnn, wanna come with me to New York this summer? Except I’m doing a drama workshop. So we won’t have anytime together.”

“Okay LuAnn. Let’s start planning our winter break trip to- are your parents turning an old warehouse into a hang-out club? Hey kids! Let’s put on a show!”

“Spring Break is coming. But LuAnn is upset with me. I think I’ll ditch the New York plans. And take an acting gig.”

Looks like LuAnn will be the one to dump HIM. Good riddance. I don’t want her to be the dump-ee.

I think both are equally to blame here. They have both been bad about communicating with each other – a symptom of not spending enough quality time together. (Can happen to any couple.) Luann, dreams and plans built in your imagination are all yours until you share (and get buy-in) with your boyfriend. Quill, you need to discuss whatever is happening in your life with your girlfriend, especially when a decision is going to affect her or your relationship with her. So deep breath, decide if you still want to be together and, if you do, work together on building the relationship you want. And talk to each other!

Good for Luann. Notice how Quill is now acting like he wants to saved the relationship now that Luann is veering closer to kicking his sorry ass to the curb. You go girl!

I usually get annoyed when Luann goes into “tantrum mode” (the closed-eye yelling makes her look like pouty child) but she’s completely entitled in this instance. What the hell, Quill?!?

It’s not Quill’s fault that the trip got canceled the second time. It is his fault that rather than talk to Luann he decided to book this job. There was for the record nothing stopping him from making reservations either. Or settling things with Luann before accepting the job. Quill doesn’t want to break up apparently, he also doesn’t want Luann to move on.

Luann gets uglier every day, in her looks and personality. Look at her face in the last 2 panels. Quill obviously does not want to be with her. I wonder if he is just too weak or polite to break up with her and he is behaving in a way that will make her do the unpleasant task of breaking up.

I started enjoying Luann years ago when my own two girls were in their teens. I hoped desperately that they wouldn’t grow up with Luann’s issues even while, more often than not, I used to laugh at her childish behavior. Sadly though, as a young adult, Luann is now the most self centered ‘person’ in comic land, apart from Andy Capp I guess. She is obnoxious, even difficult to read, and like Andy, best skipped over. In the real world I wouldn’t tolerate a friendship with either of them so why subject myself to them at all?

As someone who has been following Luann since the 90’s it feels as if there is a reluctance on the part of Evans to allow his women to grow up. We see Tiffany as the somewhat bimbo cheerleader except there is nothing to suggest that she has done anything more than hold hands and kiss. Bernice at age 16 proposed to an older Zane and his response was akin to “you have live your life a whole lot more before even considering such an action”, and now Luann who lives at home, goes to what is essentially an extension of high school, is dating someone who has traveled across the world to follow his life dream and lives in New York.

It seems as if ultimately the scrip has moved into this genre of 14 year old girls looking for a chance to date the hot boys at some frat, (okay Gunther is the exception with respect to Rosa but seriously he left the love of his life because he innately loves a warm bed more?).

All that to say that whenever I see Luann interact with New York Quill, (not high school Quill), it just seems weird.

You ask if Jay is song-obsessed. Jay has a cool personal game going, one that is likely good mental exercise while oroviding fun. It has its rules and limits which require pulling from multiple options with which inventive wordplay can be used. Try it. It is hard.

Having been involved in situations like this myself . . . The trip itself is not as significant as the lack of communication between the characters.

Too me, this looks like Greg is wrapping up recent storylines in order to set up Luann and Gunther as a couple. Possibly at Brad’s wedding. At the Fuse.

My wife and I have a beautiful, wonderful, enriching married life together. We crave and seek to spend as much time as possible together as a couple and with our kids, together as a family. But, like many, we both work outside the home. So, it is variable from day-to-day how much actual togetherness we will be able to have. You also seem to be suggesting that in the Luann/Quill relationship Quill is making disparaging remarks, trying to get in some woman’s pants, that he threatens, is sexist and infantilizes them.To me, I see none of that in how Quill is reacting. So, where do you?

I still think that some of the worst comments are kiddies crashing in and trying to shock the adults (though it is good if parents know if their 13 year old boys are playing in flamebaiting competitions because it is the sort of place a predator of young boys might hide).Anyway: Kids! Luann has been living in some kind of fantasy world, thinking that after months of barely communicating with Quill that they will go on a trip together in which the relationship will be instantly returned to the way it was 10 months ago. I want so badly for the protagonist of this strip to grow up (just a little) but so far the Evans’ aren’t letting her. I am hoping that this ‘blow’ to Luann’s thinking will jolt her a bit and start moving her down a different path.

Even though the characters in this strip are not real people i would like to see them end up with someone who can make them feel like this, with happiness at least as great for another as for oneself. As written L and Q do not have that. Maybe when they have time to grow up they will wind up finding that joy in the story, perhaps with others or perhaps w each other after a long hiatus. Hopefully readers who have not yet found that will do so themselves, too.

Heretofore, I have been sympathetic towards Luann and hoping for an amicable resolution between Lu and Quill. This is probably my least favorite strip of the cartoon ever. Luann comes across as very ugly. Her apology doesn’t seem very genuine now. I hope the powers that be will bring this squabble to a quick resolution. I enjoyed the old Luann and Quill relationship, not the estranged one.
