I love how the Evanses are letting this play out – every day this week Ann gets knocked down one more notch. Delicious. I whine when a tedious arc takes two weeks to plod through what could have been told in three panels, and I usually cringe when Ann shows up – but this has been great, and Nancy has remained unruffled throughout. We still have Saturday – wonder what twist is in store.
damn she was just to nice to her i was hoping she would have really let her have it, either way i love that she kicked her to the curb this really has been a great story arc this week.now if only Tiffany’s father would actually grow a brain and kick her to the curb as well.
So did Tiffany see all this? My guess is – now that Nancy has found out how horrible Ann is – Tiffany will come crying to Nancy that she’s flunking school and will have no place to live except with her dad & Ann. Tiffany and Luann living at the DeGroots might echo Gunther & Les living together – they had to adapt and more or less did. I believe Uncle Al thought it would be good for both of them.
That look on Ann’s face in the last panel makes me worry she has one of her idiotic schemes on her mind. And we still have at least one day left in this arc …
1) Ann wasn’t “banned” from the Fuse, like just about EVERYBODY thought she’d be. Point Eiffel.
2) Ann got her food free. Point Eiffel.
3) Ann got away abusing the staff, plus annoying the owner. Point Eiffel
4) Ann wasn’t able to directly threaten Tiffany for once. Sorta. Point DeGroot.
5) Nancy acted like the class act she’s always been and didn’t lose her temper. Point DeGroot.
Sorry, but Ann won this round and perhaps this particular fight. But at the very least Nancy now has some idea what the H3LL has been going on whenever Ann shows up. Plus Tiffany is about to gain yet another ally.
But other than getting the one of Staff to go out and ‘Key’ Ann’s Sports Car every time she shows up, and lending yet another shoulder for Tiffany to cry on, what will Nancy do about Ann?
Les, Ox, Old Smiley and Tiffany? Start talking…..,
I have the distinct feeling when it comes to how Tom feels about Ann, it’s more lust than love. Look how short that blue dress is. If Ann bends at the hip, she’s gonna give anyone behind her a show.
P.S. I see why she loves black lipstick as opposed to red, it matches her soul and her heart.
Well, Nancy, you didn’t let her drag you into a cat fight. Ox, it’d be SO nice if you had said, “Hey, Ann? Remember me from Weenie World? Where did you go after your showdown with TJ and you had to quit? And oh, you know TJ owns Kablooie Cafe? He’s my boss.”
It’s not Thrilla in Manila, that does not fit after all. It’s a grown up Tigress handling a Hyena. Or maybe a Cheetah mom protecting her cubs. I saw a Disney nature, narrated very well by none other than Samuel L. Jackson, about big cats in nature, and one of the focuses was on a cheetah mom protecting her four cubs. She had no fear, would do anything to protect and feed them, even staring down a pride of male lions, much bigger and stronger, but what really impressed me is how she protected her four cubs against a pride of hyena’s. To me those laughing dogs are really the most fearsome predators in the African savannah’s. They hunt in packs, and they smell vulnerability. The cheetah mom lost two of her cubs, who ran too far in panic, and became hyena food, but she gathered the remaining two, and fought off, and bluffed off the hyena’s. Some of the most amazing nature footage I have ever seen. That is what Ann is a hyena, because they have been known to eat their own cubs if hungry enough, a cheetah mom would never do that. Therein lies the difference, Ann is a lone hyena, look what she did to her son. Nancy is a cheetah mom, look what she does for her children, her family, and by extension her business. There is no contest between the two, particularly one on one. Give me the cheetah mom every time.
@gnmnrbl – if you think Ann’s dress is short you may be too young to remember the 1960s and early 1970s. For short skirts in Luannland try Tiffany (https://www.gocomics.com/luann/1997/10/22) or Dianne (https://www.gocomics.com/luann/1998/07/18). Of course the absolute champion is to be found at https://www.gocomics.com/luann/1992/03/04.
Look how happy Ox is! Surely Ann was a true nightmare for all the waiters. All my doubts about Nancy’s work ability are gone. She was awesome with Ann! HOORAY NANCY! HOORAY! HOORAY! HOORAY!!!
I think it is about time for Anne to head to comic heaven to live with Dirk. She would be a great candidate for a COVID-19 turn right now. I know we really don’t want to poke fun at the pandemic, but…
now the question is what’s the follow up? my guess is anne will run back to her almost fiancee to complain how she was treated and when he storms in to demand an apology he gets the full story.
The number of comments show how so many people are invested in this strip (including me). It represents the world – a lot of good people with hopes and insecurities + a few Eiffel people who are only happy when they make others unhappy.
Ann did not win (whatever that is) as others suggest. She was asked to leave and she left. Nancy is protecting her business. In fact she was smart not to take any of Ann’s $ so there is no remotely possible obligation (to Ann) on the Fuse’s part. The cafe is doing well (judging from the stack of dirty dishes Ox was carrying). Nancy probably just put some cash into the cafe’s register so that it balances. Nancy and the Fuse win BIG (as far as I am concerned). Ann’s parting insult about the place being a dump is just her last desperate effort to denigate and ruin. But you know, ‘sticks and stones’.
I like how Nancy handled the situation. She didn’t lay hands on Ann but she also didn’t let Ann bully her either. She wasn’t phased by Ann’s lawyer comment and she had an answer for everyone of Ann’s snarks. Ann expected her to cower and become apologetic at the mention of a lawyer but she didn’t. She stayed firm and largely professional. She also showed Ann that there are more important things than money. She also gave Ann no excuse to come back. If she had taken the money Ann could comeback demanding a refund for some frivolous reason.
More importantly someone now knows what Tiffany has had to deal with in regards to Ann. Hopefully TJ will find out. It’s getting hard to suspend the disbelief that he hasn’t found out about her antics by now.
Anne goes back to Tom later in the day "….Honee, can we purchase/invest (in) this “Fuse place” I would be a great person to run and manage it with my experience at weenie world..this would be such a great opportunity for us….please honeee" However, she has forgotten or does not know that her brother is a silent partner."
So….if TJ is the manager of the restaurant when is he going to voice his objections about Nancy coming on board and not acknowledging his position and letting him handle a problem customer?
So what’s the vote? Did Nancy prevail or did Ann? My vote is that we were supposed to think that Nancy did but actually Ann, with her signature smirk, won the day and free food. Have we ever seen Ann bested since her Weenie World days?
1) Tiffany runs into the kitchen crying about failing classes. Clearly Ann is the one who informed her/reminded her of this reality.
2) Ann may be using this academic failure as a tool to change Tiffany’s college living experience. While daddy is no longer paying for a premium suite, unless something has changed, he is still paying for college. He may insist she leave the dorms because they are “distracting”.
3) Tiffany doesn’t seem to like her roommate anyway, but until now there have been no options available.
4) The arc before this made it clear that the DeGroot’s have a room available.
5) Pru was quickly (and clumsily) swept aside and removed from the board to provide that open room.
6) Nancy will now feel a great deal of sympathy for Tiffany.
Conclusion, Tiffany will move in with the DeGroot’s. TaDa!!!
Film her! Film her! It’s the only way to get proof of her true behavior to show Tiffany’s dad. Otherwise, a sociopath can always lie and manipulate their way out of things. Speaking from experience. One out of 25 people are sociopaths.
So… is that it? Ann gets a free meal and doesn’t get a permanent ban? I hope tomorrow’s strip makes up for this disappointment. While it’s nice to see Nancy stand up to Ann, people like Ann aren’t humbled by that anyway. To quote Argus Filch, “I want to see some punishment!!!”
I’m a bit lost. Hasn’t Tiffany “blown off steam” about Ann to Nancy before? I thought this was going to be Nancy’s chance to tell Ann she knows all about her scheming and manipulating Tiffany and to get lost.
Hmmm, that Ann “look” in Panel 3. I’m waiting for the mustache-twirling! She has that sideways look of, “Hmmmph, Curses! Foiled again! you might think you have your way now, but I’ll BE BACK!”
[Reposting, since this doesn’t seem to have appeared after my first try.]
A number of commenters have suggested that Ann could keep coming back to The Fuse/Kafe Kablooie and getting free meals. Really??? How many more free meals do you suppose Nancy is apt to give her before telling her to get out and stay out? Not more than one, I think, and most likely zero. And if she contrives to return when Nancy isn’t there and pull her obnoxious customer routine, is there someone else she could expect to keep giving her free meals? TJ? Tiffany? Ox? Les? Al? I don’t think so.
I’m with the folks who believe that Ann clearly lost this round. Of course it’s only a minor setback for her as long as she still has Tom hoodwinked.
I know I am a minority opinion here. I believe that Ann won, hands down, and not just a “free lunch.”
Not that Nancy had many moves to make, and of the moves she had, she probably chose the right ones.
But this is still a “he said she said” case or, in this case, “she said she said,” and with presumably unlimited free legal resources for the one party, only amnesia on G&K’s part would avoid that inevitable day in court – where they-who-have-the-gold-make-the-rules and, at the end of the day, get-the-gold-from-the-little-guy.
But as Dog and others imply, G&K do have a proclivity for amnesia, so maybe this will all be washed under the bridge.
Regardless, if this really is the end of the arc, it has not been satisfying.
While many have enjoyed seeing Ann receive a “comeuppance,” other than that, very little has happened.
It’s been a lot like going to a buffet – and going away hungry.
I didn’t know Tom Farrel was a lawyer. I thought he was just another kinda crooked, sorta shady businessman. But businessman or lawyer, what would really be surprising is if the only reason he’s with Ann is to help get evidence on her to send her to prison. Maybe the Feds offered him a deal—-help us get Ann and you can go free——and they could have made Al the same kind of offer.
Now THAT would be a really strange twist, and hilarity would indeed ensue——-and Ann would finally, REALLY get her comeuppance———-but I don’t see it happening.
Ann sees it as a ‘free meal’, but it’s more like a ‘last meal’.
Nancy needs to call a meeting to discuss what just happened. This is when everyone should her what they know about Ann and her evil ways. Then Nancy, being an adult, will handle Ann the adult way.
It’s too bad Bernice is not there to give her two cents on the subject.
Aw, shucks! Does Annie Awful get out with nothing more than a little verbal jab or two from Nancy?
I was looking forward to some serious bodily harm. She might still trip over her high heels as she leaves (getting into her car: no grounds for a lawsuit against Kafe Kablooe)….
