A mí se me hace difícil recordar una placa vehicular en condiciones normales, debe ser más difícil hacerlo en un momento de tensión, muy bien por Bernice. Solo espero que no sea un auto robado.
At no point was Bernice or Luann close enough to the car to see the license plate, especially in a dark alley. Their best chance was when Stella was running Tara down, but Bern and Lu both had their backs turned and their eyes closed or covered.
Yet now, Bernice can rattle off the plate number with no problem? (eye roll)
Well, I guess it’s no more ridiculous or contrived than some of the other things that happen in this strip.
Aw, this is great. I hope we get one more panel of happy/relieved feels before the inevitable crapstorm of consequences starts next week because it’s gonna be rough even if deserved.
I see three possibilities for tomorrow. 1) the Police and EMS arrive. 2) Tara plants a big wet one on Bernice’s lips confusing everybody or 3) just as the EMS arrives Tara drops dead from an enclosed hemorrhage.
Well I have been trying in my comments at least, and for what they are worth, to get the story told, as I admittedly see it, while also trying to wade through all the projected Bernice hating, and Luann bashing, although most seem to think that maybe Tara is really someone who is not a grifting criminal. I mean we have one of those, Ann Eiffel, isn’t that enough? Now lesbian love affairs await because Tara hugs Bernice and expresses how grateful this new friend, who had distrusted her before, not only changed that opinion, expressed concern for her, called the cops, and has a photogenic memory, one that just might help get her psychopathic cousin get put back in prison for a very long time? The story is, Tara was in serious fear, she had good reason, Luann had the guts to believe her and help her, jeopardizing her friendship with her friend, and perhaps disappointing her parents, although I think they will be proud of her, and Bernice being worried and nosy and confused (that gets into the Jack arc, but now they can be separated) ends up believing Tara as well (so can the haters here give her some credit? I doubt it) and may just save the day. And they are now the three Amigos, which I think is a good thing. Tara will probably stay around for now. Monday I think we will be in a new arc. I’m ready for some Gunther and Bets, with a little Les on the side.
Looks like Bernice has made herself a new Pally-Wally!
Bernice? Meet your new “Bunk Mate,” Tara Starr.
These two are going to have fun at the archery range, monster truck shows, and at wild drunken frat parties.
And perhaps Bernice can use her influence at Mooney U to get Tara reinstated, as it appears that just about everybody may be back on campus by the Fall.
Oh that’s right.
What ”influence?”
Never mind.
Besides, You ladies had better start getting your stories straight before the Authorities show up. ;)
It looks like Tara is getting a more favorable rating since Stella showed up. Tara’s plan wasn’t to rob the Fuse blind. She was just hiding out from her crazy cousin. It would be interesting to know how Stella found her. I would still like to know who’s money Stella got, Tara’s or the Fuse. There is still more story to tell. So far I think Luann has come off in a good light.
Bernice: “Well, I also know that because she drove off in my car.”
By the way, I hope the use of the word “Gawd” means they’re working their way up to actual words that adults use and are going to drop the dumb, made-up “Omigaw”. Luann and her friends are adults, I’m sure they drop the occasional “Oh, my God”.
I’m glad Tara’s cousin is going to get caught, but I wouldn’t want to be Luann right now. To use a word made famous by Ricky Ricardo, She has some “splaining” to do to her parents.
Now they’ve done it! QZM 773 will appear as automobile vanity plates in twelve of the fifty states, Great Britain and Australia.
While we’re at it. Why is it pronounced Bri-Tan instead if Bri-tane? Why isn’t ur-bane spelled ur-bain? And why are people in Ire-Land so jolly? If tin whistles are made of tin, what are fog horns made of?
Tomorrow, all will be revealed! (Gawd I love this strip!)
Awwwwwww….. That hug was totally unexpected ♡. It seems that Tara’s heart has grown three sizes towards Bernice ♡♡♡, and maybe is also happening the other way around ♡. Bernice doesn’t seem to like being called weird (or being hugged?). But honestly, Tara is not wrong. Also, it’s great to see that even after years of knowing each other, Bernice is still able to surprise Luann with her skills.
Good job Bernice! Hopefully they will track Stella down and bring her to justice. I just hope she doesn’t try to incriminate Tara once they arrest her. Seems like something she would do.
Do people read this comic for the story or for the wide range of comments left about it? Do they read the comments to confirm their thoughts about what is going on or to correct and argue with others? And what does the license number QZM 773 mean to the author (quite often in movies there is a story behind lic#, Room#, and other background items)?
Tara, the weirdest of the the weird, calls Bernice weird? What is up with this crowd calling for a lesbian relationship because of a hug? Sometimes a hug is just a hug. Could Bernice have seen the license plate? Of course. The comic only shows snippets of what was happening. Gawd instead of God? Maybe they’re from the south which is how they pronounce god. This is a pretty awesome strip when you consider all the interesting people and situations they’ve developed over the years. I hope it continues for many years to come.
Tara and Bernice will NOT become friends from this. Both will continue to have the same personalities they always had and they will not do fun adventures together.
Tara knows where her cousin lives. Why would she need to know her license plate number? She can just tell the cops the address. The cousin will have to go back to her home sometimes to get her possessions. She is not going to flee town over the few bucks she got from the Fuse or Tara’s backpack.
Given the suspect’s name, the police should be able to find what cars are registered to that person. They would then see if any of those cars match the description of the one Stella was driving.
Did you know some people can calculate angles of view and legibility factors from a few comic strip panels never intended to convey continuous action? Amazing, isn’t it?
Not that it matters much but—no one’s noted that, if Tara knows it’s her cousin, why would they even need the plate number? They could just tell the cops, “it’s my cousin.”
Lol! Gotta love Bernice! Although we saw them with their backs turned, sometime, last Wednesday to Friday when Tara was talking to her cousin, she must have looked at the car and registered the license. She was in the phone at that time. Apparently we don’t see ALL the events. ;-D
QZM 773 is probably the license pate number of a car Greg used to have back in the early 1960’s if he was in California at the time. I had a ’62 Nova with the original 1962 plate of like RLD 879 when I bought it in 1973, so it would have been slightly before mine. California later started putting the numbers before the letters, as the new plates I got for a ’68 Firebird I bought in 1973 were like 775 BGP. Somewhere about 1979 or 1980, California started putting a number in front of the other six, and the plates were like 1AWN412. Now, the plates are up to numbers like 8QZM773. (Note: the plate numbers above were changed very slightly to protect the innocent – apologies to the actual owners of the plates I listed above, but they were very close)
I made a comment yesterday about how, at an emergency like this, you want BOTH someone to help emotionally (Luann, in this case) and someone who “does what has to be done” like a Vulcan with no emotion (Bernice, in this case).
Getting and remembering the license number, in a case like this, is EXACTLY what the unemotional “Vulcans” do. I’ve seen it several times (and been the person in question, once or twice). Or, as another analogy, “The Big Bang Theory” and Sheldon Cooper’s eidetic [“photographic”] memory.
Third panel is especially sweet. Bernice would have always known she was unlike others, quickly learned others realized it too, just now realized she could be appreciated for herself.

It was never depicted in the strip, but Broni legally adopted Shannon.
