I can only hope that the rest of the week will continue to be about Luann. Has she graduated from Community College and is starting her Junior year at Mooney?
Well it looks like we’ll finally take up what is happening to Luann (and perhaps Bernice) with respect to schooling. The utter confusion she is showing seems to hint that she is starting at Mooney U. She has already completed two years at Pits C.C. and should be at the point to pick a major and move to Uni or seek employment. Given the topic of the previous week, we may see the living arrangements addressed. Remember, Bernice received a “full ride” scholarship to Mooney so they may live and attend together.
And who will transfer with them? Nil? Jack? Or will they seek other avenues. Let the good times roll!
I like that they’ve taken a second to discuss her transition. It feels less like a sitcom where everyone conveniently stays with the same group as high-school.
This reminds me of my former job, where someone put up a map of the world in the public area, and we lowly workers wrote funny (or snarky) comments on it.
What made it funny (to me) is that in elementary school, I had a teacher who considered proper map-reading akin to knowing the Bible—and seeing those comments reminded me of her.
I was hoping for a Luann story but after being reminded that this is a national holiday and/or day of mourning for indigenous Americans, this is probably a throwaway strip like most Sundays. I don;t know why but so it seems. Which means that tomorrow it’s probably back to the Horniest Little Wh*rehouse Not in Texas.
That looks suspiciously like a map of my alma mater! And of an exact same situation I had for one particular class, which was held out in the Outer Reaches of the Solar System, and we had 15 minutes to get there from the class just letting out in the furthest possible opposite corner of campus. It was fun trekking across the wind- and snow-swept waste in wintertime—with ice forming on your face, like in Doctor Zhivago—arrrrrgh! Flashback!!
This looks like the beginning of the huge and important arc on Luann’s school life that I’ve been waiting for so long! The one where Luann ends up having a clear idea of her future and will choose her major. This will most likely involve Jack, Tara, Nil and Prof. Zebo. Can’t wait ♡!!! GO LUANN!!!!!
There are community college campuses that can be pretty large, with several buildings spread out but this map seems more likely a 4 year campus. So she has transferred to a 4 year? I think it’s just as likely it’s her community college and getting around in time for classes is a challenge. But you know there is always more.
This makes no sense. She’s been in college for a couple of years now. This would’ve been appropriate if she was a new incoming college freshman… But right now it seems like she should be her 3rd year. Of course, everything moves at a much slower speed in the Luannverse, so we’re never quite sure..
The college I went to had 3 campuses and the maps for 2 of them looked more like circuit boards than anything else. I lived at home and had to commute to school. I tended to get there early, park where I would be at the end of the day, and take the inter campus bus to travel where I needed to go. At one point a whole bus load of us spontaneously burst into song – ‘Another One Rides the Bus’ by Weird Al.
I predict in the not so distant future the downsizing or elimination of many US campuses and universities as online learning continues to grow. In fact, I’ve already seen it happening here in Ohio. When I see the obscene amounts of money spent on university facilities, paired with student loan payments spread out over a lifetime, I’m not surprised that HS graduates are saying “No thanks” to such a bad deal.
Doesn’t matter which college, what does matter is Luann needs to go from A to B and there a fair amount of distance between them. At least it’s not on the other side of town or something. Something to remember is not all community colleges are small 1-3 buildings. Many have several campus’s and some of their campus can support several thousand students at one. Also, we haven’t heard of her starting at Moony so patience… Also hopefully this will bring back Jack, Nil, and probably also Tara. Game on!
My college was so big it had two subway stations and 8 public bus lines; just in the main branch, it also had 5 different sub colleges among 3 other cities. Worse part is that you had to go to the other sub colleges for paper work or tutors or to the main library.
What the map leaves out: it’s uphill. Seriously, if you replace the map with the UC-Berkeley map, getting to the upper right corner requires some reasonably serious climbing.
That “college” campus would be the size of maybe a small junior college. I get that space in the strip is limited, etc. and the point he was going for: a college campus can be overwhelming at first when you think back 9th grade when the high school campus seemed huge and complicated.
Or a holiday maybe. At any rate I totally get it had blisters on the bottom of my feet the size of quarters from all the walking in the first couple of weeks.
Wow, her campus is actually compact. Mine was one long narrow strip. And at least three times a week, I had ten minutes to get from one end of the strip to the other end.
Try going to Texas Tech University…HUGE campus. I was SOOO glad that when I started law school we got premium parking at the law school…no more hikes to get to class!
the 180° compass indicator is a clever touch, or maybe I mean nightmarish. Anyhow, scale is everything, and college can be pretty overwhelming, at first, but bless me, hasn’t Luann been in college for a semester or two, now?
For those who wanted Luann to star in her own comic, here she is!;-))That’s a fairly big campus for a small community college, unless she’s graduated and gone on to MU. If so, will she get involved with the drama in the quads!
In truth, I think maybe the situation is just the reverse. Even though the high school was much smaller, I had a greater fear of getting lost (or anyway not finding my classroom) there than on the much larger college campus, where everything was signposted. There, the fear was of not getting to the next class on time if it were on the far side of campus from the preceding one….

Yep. Our Luann has trouble reading a campus map. Well, it is a good practice before she goes on a long road trip or to a museum.
