Instant is not coffee. All coffee makers take time and have a few steps. Big deal. The only thing you don’t need to do is grind it every day. I find so little difference between fresh ground and store ground as to be pointless.

TJ (and probably Greg) is ill-informed. Instant coffee is almost totally devoid of caffeine and will more likely put you to sleep. The more you roast and process coffee, the more it loses caffeine. Instant is so over baked, it’s mostly just colour and flavour.

Just like the principal of homeopathic theory, a minute amount of a drug has an opposite effect, ergo, lots will keep you awake, little will put you to sleep.

I have it every night for that very reason. Having one right now….

No one serious about coffee makes instant before making the good stuff. (I do a fine grind and make a triple-shot cappuccino to enjoy with a bit of dark chocolate to start my day while I read the comics. Instant? No way. (Except whipped into foam with equal parts sugar and hot water and then put in iced milk)

Since last January I’ve been reading Luann (and Luann Againn for more background). Some of my favorite posters often mention the strip, posters who also follow many of the same comics I do, so I thought I’d give it a try. Luann does not appeal to me, and I am looking for a couple of replacement strips for my regular Go Comics rotation. I’ll probably be chastised by some for wasting this space and their time with this, my first and likely last post on Luann. Guess I just wanted to say goodbye—and wish a happy and healthy New Year to all Luann followers.

NNOOOO! That is NOT how to make coffee! 1. Never use that blade grinder you prss down. The grind is too inconsistent. 2. Use a Burr grinder. 3. Measure the water for a French Press. 4. Remember a coffee cup is 6 oz not 8 so 3 measuring cups of water = 4 coffee cups Not 3. Adjust number of scoops of ground coffee for 4 cups or it will be too weak.

It would be nice to see TJ in a story, maybe he meets a lady chef, or starts a charity meals service. The perfect match would be him and Tiffany but that’s not going to happen. Anything that doesn’t involve fire or explosions would be great.

I got hooked on the French press coffee making several years ago and it’s the only way to go. You can make adjustments in several areas to make it to your liking, not just the amount of beans but how long to grind them, water temp, amount of water, steeping time, etc. And of course the amazing varieties of coffee beans out there.

And screw it all. Milk and sweetener are a must. Not too sweet, not too much milk, but I drink it extremely rarely black. Unless we are out of milk. I actually prefer cream.
